Allison's case is due to be heard later this month and given the delays and attempts to have the case struck out, as well as the addition of direct discrimination based on GC beliefs to the case, costs have mounted.

The case is scheduled to run for 20 days (5 to 10 days being the norm).

Ben Cooper QC is representing Allison.

I'm off to plant some more flowers to really catch the sunlight that no doubt will be shining during the 20 days of her case. I thought I had enough, but more are needed because of the extension, unfortunately, which has left a bit of a bare patch!

I am looking forward to seeing what Allison is like as a witness. Am expecting "formidable".

I reckon there will be a film about these cases in due course.

MrsOvertonsWindow · 03/04/2022 17:44

The shock that activists must feel when they see that actually the public care about women being bullied out of their jobs, women's sport, vulnerable women in prison forced to share with rapists, women being raped in hospital and NHS staff lying to the police about it as well as the tragedy that is teenage social contagion.

And it's men as well as women funding this!

EmbarrassingHadrosaurus · 03/04/2022 17:51

@Roseglen84

Just bumping for the afternoon crowd. I didn't realise the case starts at the end of this month, I bet Stonewall are shitting themselves Grin.
After the excitement of Maya Forstater's case ( Compulsive viewing. People in my kitchen. Empire ) I'd think a fair number of people are planning their work schedules around being able to attend the Allison Bailey employment tribunal if the public is allowed online access.

This would be an outstanding case for the public to be able to attend online. It's notable, important, and there is huge interest in the process and eventual outcomes.

Twitterwhooooo · 03/04/2022 17:55

It's a huge case.

I remember Allison's first crowd funder that the site pulled then reinstated in a very diluted form because talking about being sexually abused as a child and a lesbian is transphobic of course, and realising that Stonewall really were going to use every weapon in their artillery to bring down a black lesbian, and this could not be allowed to happen.

So much admiration for Allison.

Thank you for this thread — I’ve been rather depressed lately so avoiding

RL news and so wasn’t aware of the latest re AB’s actions.
Anyway I’ve just planted a little packet of seeds. Will try to find more stuff to plant soon.
Widow’s mite and all that but unity helps.

Justanotherobserver · 03/04/2022 18:00

I see there's been a lot of gardening going on today. Nice!

MamaSaidTheredBeDaysLikeThis · 03/04/2022 18:04

Would someone mind précis-ing why AB’s case is so important? I’ve lost track a bit.

When AB helped found the LGBA, Stonewall pressured her employer into making her life difficult for her to force her to leave. So it's important because it demonstrates how pernicious and widespread Stonewall's influence is, to the extent that it will try to force a Black lesbian barrister out of her job for holding a different opinion. I guess that's the gist. If Stonewall lose (as I sincerely hope they do) it will cause a lot of questions to be asked about why so many large public bodies, including the Welsh government, are paying Stonewall thousands or even millions of pounds a year.
DelurkingLawyer · 03/04/2022 18:19

Thanks for the reminder to get out and garden.

Fascinating that some are suggesting on twitter that it won’t change the law. They’re very eager to say that a few first instance decisions like the Land Rover case did change the law or were otherwise somehow ground breaking, because it suits their agenda to do so.

LauriePartridge4Eva · 03/04/2022 18:47

Thanks for the reminder from me too. I'm not on other social media so would have missed this, I chucked in some cash for her and will put in more when I can.

PrincessFluffyPants · 03/04/2022 19:04

Always happy to help tend the garden

NancyDrawed · 03/04/2022 19:07

Whether it can change the law or not - the sunlight will be blinding and I imagine will shock a lot of people if they have not been following the Stonewall creep into policy and public bodies.

I am surprised I'm not at the number of people on twitter saying that the public should not be giving money to this and suggesting better causes. I'll donate to any causes I believe in, thanks, and who is to say that Mr or Ms £50K donation doesn't give equally large amounts to causes those commentors deem worthy?

That aside, I feel uncomfortable that the narrative spun to vulnerable youngsters is likely to be 'See how much people want to take away your rights and prevent you from being yourself, Stonewall is your friend'.

I wonder how they will spin the details of the case once it is underway?

That “how daaaaaare they spend money on this cause” made me donate more. I spend my hard-earned money on what I fucking well please, and maybe if they didn’t want us to spend money on crowdfunders like these they should have spoken up while Stonewall was busily institutionally capturing all those organisations.
McDuffy · 03/04/2022 20:03

Aretina I've done a larger donation than usual thanks to your post, here's to better timesDaffodil
I will not be booking any important meetings for a month!

partystress · 03/04/2022 20:10

Thank for sharing - nice to be reminded of those jobs that need doing.

That's lovely to feel that I have had an impact. Flowers
ThinkWittyThoughts · 03/04/2022 20:45

Just did some more digging. Thanks for the reminder.

I'm looking forward to virtually watching Ben Cooper (the QC, not that poor guy on Twitter) rip them to pieces, one reasonable question at a time...

Let me take a wild guess as to which people on Twitter are claiming that for Jaguar Land Rover. I suspect it's a Venn diagram with the people involved in it and overstating its impact, at length, in parts of a co-authored book (helpfully reviewed at Legal Feminist).

Gardening done. Pruning, cutting back, getting more light on things... Thank you for the reminder?.

stimpyyouidiot · 03/04/2022 21:19

I've done what I can

SpringLobelia · 03/04/2022 21:22

I think tomorrow is an excellent day to garden.

CriticalCondition · 03/04/2022 22:36

Popped out to Allison's allotment with my spade today. And stopped by at Raquel's garden to do a bit of digging there too.

I think the forecast for the next couple of months is bright, lots of lovely sunlight.

sacredfeminina · 03/04/2022 22:41

Just reminded of a little poster stuck on the wall of a flat i used to live in with a wonderful, magical sister of mine...

''I hope your head cracks open and the light comes pouring in..''

I hope this for so many people right now!
