A male Tory MP has released a statement on Twitter that they are transgender, and also that a couple of years ago they were raped.
It's a brave statement.

He hasn't said he is a woman.

EndaDay · 30/03/2022 16:27

@EmbarrassingHadrosaurus

Yes, I think there is a clear line between "blue rinses" and dyed blue hair.

"Blue rinses"as in the "blue rinse brigade" has long implied older women and if we insist on thinking that it is only older people-and women at that-who will be annoyed enough to withdraw their vote from this man, then we are saying that it is old fashioned to be up in arms about it.

Anyone against this Trans March into women's lives are just behind the times and I hope that isn't true; although I am perturbed at the number of young women who call themselves allies and declare they will never read harry Potter again!

lifeturnsonadime · 30/03/2022 16:30

@Innocenta

He hasn't said he is a woman.
So what has he said then?

He said he's trans? What does he mean?

How can you be trans and be a man before and still be a man?

Why is this brave?

nauticant · 30/03/2022 16:33

He said he's trans? What does he mean?

For the moment it means what Wallis wants it to mean. The meaning tomorrow doesn't have to be the same as today. Wallis might be more specific as time passes.

In case you think I'm taking the piss to irritate you I'm not. I'm just applying what I've learned from trans activists. I don't agree with this stuff by the way.

Abitofalark · 30/03/2022 16:35

@PinkDressYes

Two things to say:
  1. Jamie has stated that his pronouns are he/ him. There is no need to use "they/ them".
  1. What does this story have to do with feminism? Shouldn't it be on the politics board or something? I can't see anything in this story that's related to women and girls, unless I'm missing something?
This particular sub-forum "Sex and Gender Discussions" comes under the umbrella of "Feminism" in the structure of mumsnet site but the actual topic means 'gender' vs sex, related to the issue of transgender, 'gender identity' and women and all that that involves. So a thread about a man declaring himself trans or wishing to be, is very much on topic in this sub forum.
Innocenta · 30/03/2022 16:36

@lifeturnsonadime All of your questions have already been answered on the thread. Obviously you're entirely free to think he isn't brave if that's what you choose to think.

I don't think you are taking the piss.

I'm just really struggling to understand:

a) what his declaration of being trans means when he is retaining his pronouns and appearance, so on the face of it he was a man before he said he was a man and remains so. How is that trans?

b) why some posters think this is stunning and brave.

I just think words should have meaning. This is completely meaningless.

HomeHomeInTheRange · 30/03/2022 16:40

Plenty of Transwomen are of the belief that Transwomen are Transwomen.

Rather than Transwomen are women.

lifeturnsonadime · 30/03/2022 16:40

Sorry I'm even confusing myself now a should be:

a) what his declaration of being trans means when he is maintaining his pronouns and appearance, so on the face of it he was a man before he said he was trans and remains so after. How is that trans?

lifeturnsonadime · 30/03/2022 16:42

@HomeHomeInTheRange

I'm sure they do. But trans rights activists say they are women.

I'm having got a clue what Jamie Wallis is claiming to be. I have no idea what trans means in the context he's used it.

DameHelena · 30/03/2022 16:42

They haven't.

EmbarrassingHadrosaurus · 30/03/2022 16:44

@Innocenta

He hasn't said he is a woman.
True. He's explicit about retaining his current presentation and pronouns according to his statement.
lifeturnsonadime · 30/03/2022 16:45

True. He's explicit about retaining his current presentation and pronouns according to his statement.

So he was a man before his declaration that he was trans and he is still a man.

How is that trans?

Why is that brave?

Innocenta · 30/03/2022 16:52

He has gender dysphoria.

Who has said that he is 'stunning'?

AlsoNotAGirl · 30/03/2022 16:55

I’ve not read the full thread so this may have been said before

So all those labour wannabe trans mp’s have been beaten to the first trans mp by a conservative mp.

It is awful to be raped, I know. Hopefully he has more sympathy for the many many many women who have also been raped that want to retain single sex places in environments where they are vulnerable..

Does PTSD from rape mean a significant section of the female population now have a pass to do stupid and illegal things and blame it on being raped in the pastHmm

DameHelena · 30/03/2022 16:59

Very much remains to be seen, doesn't it.

lifeturnsonadime · 30/03/2022 17:00

Gender dysphoria isn't a trans identity. it is often a symptom which leads to a person adopting a different gender identity to match what they feel is their true gender but this isn't what he is doing. He hasn't even said he is non binary. He is retaining his male appearance and pronouns. I would say this is quite unusual for people with gender dysphoria.

Stunning and brave is a phrase often used for transwomen. I may have misquoted this. People on this thread have definitely said he is brave.

Very likely right.

Blackmail possibly involved footage, otherwise zero proof.

Who would worry about blackmail unless there was hard evidence?

Far better to ‘Come out’ and garner “ sympathy “ for being “ So brave”

This guy seems sleazy as heck.
More Tory sleaze.

Abitofalark · 30/03/2022 17:10

Pronouns don't have any magical properties or powers to make someone into something else. Neither does the word transwoman. This is not reality that we're talking about. So whether someone has or has not adopted certain pronouns or used another word is neither here nor there. Which come to think of it, is perhaps an apt description of that individual at the moment.

MangyInseam · 30/03/2022 17:12

Maybe he is queering teh word "trans"?

borntobequiet · 30/03/2022 17:15

I hope you're right and he does lose his seat but please don't say that's because "blue rinses" will be annoyed by him.

Haha, all the blue hair is on the kiddies now. Old birds like me embrace the grey.

I also embrace the fact that this will make politicians from all sides look credulous, stupid and dodgy, whatever they say about it.

jkrfan · 30/03/2022 17:16

@Muminabun

Meeting randoms on the internet for sex is really really unsafe. Fleeing the scene of a car crash is pretty dodgy behaviour. Managing a dodgy sex website is gross. MPs are supposed to be fit and proper people. Represent their constituents. That is their job. He is obviously totally unfit for public office for various reasons. This is now all about him to deflect from his behaviour. He has no intention of changing pronouns or his appearance. Is he just jumping on the trans bandwagon to use trans privilege to deflect from the fact he is totally unsuitable to be in office.
I'm guessing when he was selected as the candidate for Bridgend, he was not expected to win.
borntobequiet · 30/03/2022 17:16

And that purple shampoo is rubbish.
