To wonder why an MP is lying about womens bathrooms?

TeaKlaxon · 28/03/2022 09:33

Lucy Allen has tweeted that the Barbican has mens bathrooms and gender neutral bathrooms, but no womens bathrooms.

Lots of twitter users told her that was wrong.

The Barbican itself told her it's wrong.

But the tweet remains. AIBU to think that if an MP gets something wrong, they should apologise and remove the lie? Or to think that this is deliberate misinformation to further the myth of women being 'erased'?

She couldn't find the women's toilets?

Yes, that is why she asked.

She believed there weren't any women's toilets?

She was laughed at when she asked and left the venue thinking there were no female toilets.

She knew there were women's toilets but is pissed off that gender neutral toilets even exist?

She is asking where the toilets were on that floor so she could use them. You have drawn that massive misinterpretation all your self.

From your own prejudiced agenda.

BringBackCoffeeCreams · 28/03/2022 13:09

So which is it?

She couldn't find the women's toilets?

She believed there weren't any women's toilets?

She knew there were women's toilets but is pissed off that gender neutral toilets even exist?

You tell us, you're the one with the agenda.

DomesticatedZombie · 28/03/2022 13:11

“I was at the Barbican yesterday where there were male toilets, disabled toilets, and gender neutral toilets. I asked where were the female toilets as I am not gender neutral I am a woman and they laughed in my face. Women are being erased.”

Oh, gosh. That's the tweet in question? So your opening post seems to be completely wrong, OP.

'Lucy Allen has tweeted that the Barbican has mens bathrooms and gender neutral bathrooms, but no womens bathrooms.'

She didn't say that at all. If you report your post to MN, they can delete it for you.

TeaKlaxon · 28/03/2022 13:12

@girlmom21

Toilets in the Barbican are extremely easy to find.

That's not the experience of everyone in this thread.
Maybe it's because you don't mind the gender neutral ones that make it easy?

Or the fact that there is a womens toilet on the Ground Floor, two on the first floor, one on the second floor and one on the third floor. Five in total in the main centre itself.

That may have something to do with it being easy to find one.

So have we found out how many female only toilets there are there yet?

DomesticatedZombie · 28/03/2022 13:14

Anyone who can read and still thinks there is no womens toilets there is an idiot.

Aren't you charming?

'16.4% of adults in England, or 7.1 million people, can be described as having 'very poor literacy skills.''

Not to mention, as pp have done, eyesight issues, vestibular issues, mental health issues, etc that can be disorientating or confusing for people. But you'd have us dismiss anyone as an 'idiot' for asking questions. Lovely.

RE anonymity, in order to get a response from an MP the constituent has to provide both a name and street address. Otherwise the email isn't read, let alone responded to. MPs (rightly) cannot disclose the name of constituents publicly. It is incredibly common for MP's to quote emails, letters etc by saying "one constituent...", and if you watch any HoC discussion you will see this. It doesn't mean the MP is lying or that the constituent is lying either. It is simply that we respect both the right of the citizen to seek help from their local MP, and their right to privacy.

Having received help from more than one MP I'm really glad this system is in place.

Itwasntmeright · 28/03/2022 13:16

@TeaKlaxon Well, if I thought they were saying it to try and reinforce the lesbophobic lie that other women see butch lesbians as men, then I probably wouldn’t choose them to believe, but then I’m a butch lesbian, not a lesbophobic misogynist.

Even better, it is all those you listed zombie who WOULD ask questions... and there seems to be posters who then mock a woman actually asking for help, so anyone reading this thread could take away that if they are confused for any reason, including in a confused state due to an illness, they should not ask because obviously they should be mocked.

And to the people saying you can easily access women's loos at the Barbican, maybe you mostly go there in the evening for the theatre (more of the building is always accessible then) There are women's loos on that level, but they're frequently roped off during the day, as are the 1st floor loos. So you can't access them at all (that's why I didn't know about the "gender neutral " loos, they've been inaccessible the last 4 or 5 times I've been to the Barbican library) I haven't been there for about a month, but the loos on the art gallery level (4th?) were still OK. There are also (a couple ) of women's loos that you access through the Barbican Kitchen on the ground floor. At least there WERE Angry Don't know about the Barbican cinemas on Beech Street, I never go there (and never will if this is the way they treat their female customers)

bellinisurge · 28/03/2022 13:30

I'm sure that there are plenty of women who are happy sharing women only spaces with people with dicks. Sadly, I'm sure there are violent people who happen to be lesbians who threaten women.

I also know that 98% of sex offenders are men. I also know that sex offending can escalate from indecent exposure - which means showing your dick to women who don't ask to see it.

Those are the stats that I take into account when making a personal risk assessment about using a public toilet.

No. I said anyone who can read and still thinks there are no womens bathrooms in the Barbican is an idiot.

That clearly doesn't extend to those who, for whatever reason, cannot read.

I don’t get this OP.

I have massive flooding issues due to menopause and sometimes need the toilet urgently. I sometimes need to wash my hands (blood everywhere) and my knickers. I would not want to do that in a general neutral toilet as I would be mortified if a man was next to me.

I would have asked for the women’s if I saw something that looked like the picture posted here. If someone from the staff then laughed at me, I would be quite upset.

Why would this make me GC whatever that is and why would I not be able to complain to whomever I wanted, including my MP?

I really don’t understand this

Why should I believe you rather than the butch lesbians who have shared their own experience and say you're wrong?

If you said 'excuse me where is the women's bathrooms' then an usher would simply say 'Upstairs and to the left' or whatever the answer is.

The person who Lucy Allen is claiming to have heard from made a point of expressing their displeasure with gender neutral bathrooms, claims to have been laughed at (no, I don't believe that) and claims that someone wouldn't tell her where they were (no, I don't believe that either).

And also claims to have been unable to identity from the ample signage in the Barbican where any of the five women's bathrooms were, and left thinking they didn't exist.

So no, I don't believe any of what is claimed. In the situation you describe, I think an usher would simply answer your question by telling you where the womens toilet is.

Itwasntmeright · 28/03/2022 13:36

@TeaKlaxon I’ve covered that in my previous post.

DomesticatedZombie

The swivelling is rather remarkable isn't it?

DomesticatedZombie · 28/03/2022 13:37

@Helleofabore

Some people think any woman who speaks when her words haven't been pre-approved by men deserves to be mocked and insulted. And ageism is depressingly common - of course eyesight is disproportionately orse in older people so this is another reason to belittle, attack and sneer.

Anyone who works in a venue who is approached by someone looking for a toilet would be expected to just give out the information. No laughing, mocking or questioning of them is necessary.

DomesticatedZombie · 28/03/2022 13:37

*worse, not orse.

TeaKlaxon · 28/03/2022 13:38
@TeaKlaxon I’ve covered that in my previous post.
Your previous post seems to imply that anyone who disagrees with you on this is a lesbophobic misogynist.

But that would also seem to include lesbians who have had a different experience. Do you think Eloise Stonborough is lesbophobic and misogynistic, for example?

OP posts:
DomesticatedZombie · 28/03/2022 13:40

The person who Lucy Allen is claiming to have heard from made a point of expressing their displeasure with gender neutral bathrooms, claims to have been laughed at (no, I don't believe that) and claims that someone wouldn't tell her where they were (no, I don't believe that either).

So, your issue is with some unknown person whose account you don't believe. How long have you spent being angry at this unknown person, OP?

And also claims to have been unable to identity from the ample signage in the Barbican where any of the five women's bathrooms were, and left thinking they didn't exist

'ample' - several posters have already explained to you why they might have needed extra help finding the specific toilet necessary to them. You're just mocking a woman for asking for a woman's toilet, let's be honest. And impugning her and implying she is lying. We've already established your initial accusation of the MP as 'lying' is completely inaccurate.

How many other women do you wish to accuse of lying?

Helleofabore · 28/03/2022 13:41

The person who Lucy Allen is claiming to have heard from made a point of expressing their displeasure with gender neutral bathrooms, claims to have been laughed at (no, I don't believe that) and claims that someone wouldn't tell her where they were (no, I don't believe that either).

Oh... I see.

Believe people when they say things.... except those people that OP feels shouldn't be believed.

Again, your deep prejudice is very clear here OP.

This is the tweet that you have spun your own interpretation on and is not to be believed. Because you know best and you know the person who complained and know what motivated them.

I received this message today: “I was at the Barbican yesterday where there were male toilets, disabled toilets, and gender neutral toilets. I asked where were the female toilets as I am not gender neutral I am a woman and they laughed in my face. Women are being erased.”

Right. The message is believe everyone, but don't believe that woman. Because .... reasons.

girlmom21 · 28/03/2022 13:41

So no, I don't believe any of what is claimed.

You seem to not believe anything that actual, normal, every day people are saying but believing everything one poster-woman says because it fits your agenda. It's very strange.
