The Daily Telegraph exclusive reports today that Commonwealth Games chiefs have agreed on new gender rules, which could pave the way for a trans woman to race for a female cycling medal.

The DT understands a potential contender, who previously competed in male categories is in serious contention to be picked. The cyclist has yet to formally confirm they want to compete in Birmingham.

The DT is now in full campaign mode re the trans in sport issue.

The sports section today has the following double page spread

True - with sports you don’t even need to say a word.

nepeta · 28/03/2022 19:20

I don't think that pseudo-woke male commentators and journalists should comment on this without first realising that they would lose nothing from transgender participation in male sports. They are sitting in the stands, eating popcorn, and rooting for those who are male against those who are female. I would like that to be made clearer.

Or we could always use the pseudo-woke rules about privileged people shutting up...

What hurts me about this and all the other sports arguments about trans women in female sports is how clear it becomes, after reading through many articles, that the female sex really IS widely despised and expected to just hoover up all the problems afterwards.

Pullman called protesting women's voices on Twitter 'squeaking'. A male sports journalist's article about female protests for Lia Thomas' inclusion was headlined 'hysteria.'

DERFDogmaExlusionary · 28/03/2022 21:04

Was it Bob Howden who decided to remove the women's category and replace it with mixed sex?

British Cycling's first transgender policy came out to big fanfare from Pippa York and CEO Julie Harrington in October 2020 www.britishcycling.org.uk/about/article/20201009-British-Cycling-publishes-Transgender-and-Non-Binary-Participation-policy-0

What they didn't say was self-ID was being used for women only Breeze rides since 2017, although lots of Breeze leaders didn't seem to know about it.

It must be a miraculous coincidence that Pippa came out as trans in 2017 and Emily Bridges in October 2020 right?

CatsOperatingInGangs · 29/03/2022 08:12

The people in the comments are not happy.

Yet again photos of EB on their lonesome rather than next to women

Can almost guarantee EB won’t win. I don’t believe Omniunm is their specialist event plus Eb isn’t stupid enough to think rocking up out of nowhere & beating dame Laura would look good. This is all part of a strategy of softening up the public in time for the commonwealth games or more likely the Olympics

Helleofabore · 29/03/2022 08:25

Did BC actually publish the submissions and papers that formed their ‘consultation’? Like World Rugby did?

I suspect that races won’t be won unless they are strategic to getting into teams. Lessons will have been learned along the way. The strategy now will be a solid placing but then at prestigious events, the effort will be at maximum.

SweatyChamoisPad · 29/03/2022 08:26

@DERFDogmaExlusionary doubt it. BH has done a lot for women’s cycling as a race organiser. He also has no vote on the board or national council since BC were forced to split president and chair roles by UK Sport. He now has a figurehead position (which he does a great job at) but very little power where it matters. I suspect several of the board wouldn’t be happy with the way things are going, but feel they are stuck on this runaway trans gravy train that has no brakes. In the main I think it was driven by Pippa York and a couple of wannabe woke members of the comms team at the time, driven in turn by pro trans media like Ned Boulting and the like. RF didn’t leave of his own volition - there are a few people whose faces no longer fit with the new CEO who is from Rugby, and apparently he’s bringing all his mates in.

Helleofabore · 29/03/2022 08:26

Sorry, I just read eye’s post. Cross post.

CatsOperatingInGangs · 29/03/2022 08:36

RF is still on Companies House as a Director. If he had left the organisation, he should be taken off there shortly

SamphiretheStickerist · 29/03/2022 08:39

I may have added a few comments of my own. Nice to see they are not currently moderating them. Wonder how long that will last?

I don't think so. I think he has been one of the good guys. My knowledge is a bit ot of date though. Sounds like @SweatyChamoisPad is mor eup to date Smile

Feralgoose · 29/03/2022 09:13

No they didn't. What a surprise.

Helleofabore · 29/03/2022 09:25

Yeah. I didn’t think they published it. That would take ultimate transparency. Something World Rugby set a very high standard for.

I suspect Cycling are eyeing off medal potential.

SweatyChamoisPad · 29/03/2022 09:53

The consultation is mentioned in the board meeting in December - www.britishcycling.org.uk/zuvvi/media/bc_files/corporate/boardminutes/WEBSITE_BCF_Board_-Minutes-8.12.21-_v1.pdf

Re medal potential it's interesting to note that an Olympic medal win is worth around a million quid of UKS funding. So regardless of what the board, management, staff, riders think - a win is a win, and a win is money.

Rodedooda · 29/03/2022 10:03

We've got tickets for the UCI track event at the velodrome in Glasgow next month. Bought through British Cycling. They're getting an email, and i'm going to ask my DH to cancel his membership, unfortunately just renewed in January.

How best to make a protest? An Adult Human Female t-shirt?

bellinisurge · 29/03/2022 10:20

Betting this cheat will throw the race. He should race against Veronica Ivy or whatever that one is calling himself these days. Probably in better shape.

Rodedooda · 29/03/2022 10:50

Someone on the Times comments has asked if the mods are on an tea break!

Vijia · 29/03/2022 11:02

I know what the solution is to make it fair!

Give all females male puberty hormones aged 12-18.

Then they can compete with transgender athletes on a more even playing field.

Win win Grin

RoyalCorgi · 29/03/2022 11:08

She dismisses this as "hypotheticals". But that's what you do when you make law, isn't it? Think about what other areas of law are impacted or amended or set aside by your changes?

This is a very important point. If you go back to the original House of Lords discussions in Hansard about the 2004 Gender Recognition Bill, a number of peers make the point that men will be identify as female and take part in women's sport. It probably seemed far-fetched at the time. But here we are.

Enough4me · 29/03/2022 11:08

How very male and entitled he is to race in two categories swapping to the women's to taken women's medals. It takes a particular type of man to know in his very bones, that developed through male puberty, that he has no qualms competing against women.

Imagine he will be feeling excited in the run up, gets the boost of lining up against women and feels no guilt in being in the wrong sex category.

Plasmodesmata · 29/03/2022 11:19

It's almost worse if the intention is to strategically not win particular races, maybe to "prove" no advantage.
That would be a very cynical use of a place on the team / in the race.

WeWillLookBack · 29/03/2022 11:29

Sadly we need this - the more confident the TRAs become, the quicker they will go too far.

In Australia they have announced the first Trans Rugby Player - pray a woman isn't seriously injured before this stops.

KittenKong · 29/03/2022 13:03

So we will end up having ‘normal’ sports (ie mens footie) PLUS what was the ‘ladies league’ cakes something like the ‘all genders league’? It’s the loos problem all over again!

51% of the population….

CatsOperatingInGangs · 29/03/2022 13:28

Lolz. The Times had moved the story about EB v Dame Laura Kenny to their front page from the sports page .

Glorious, glorious sunlight. Let it shine in.
