The Daily Telegraph exclusive reports today that Commonwealth Games chiefs have agreed on new gender rules, which could pave the way for a trans woman to race for a female cycling medal.

The DT understands a potential contender, who previously competed in male categories is in serious contention to be picked. The cyclist has yet to formally confirm they want to compete in Birmingham.

The DT is now in full campaign mode re the trans in sport issue.

The sports section today has the following double page spread

I was thinking about this last night (slightly drunk).

So women will become invisible. They will be the cleaners and nannies and shop assistants (not makeup counters or lingerie depts though). The non ‘glam’ jobs.

Actors, sports people and faces on tv will allllll be male born. They will be the ‘female elite’ and gatekeeper what is seen as female (hideous drag queen makeup I’m seeing on women these days - bleugh). Woke me healthcare and well-being will be managed .

It’s like a bloody sci fi novel.

Terfydactyl · 27/03/2022 10:56
Agreed nauticant - sport with the evident unfairness will be a key issue. It should be what's happening to children with social contagion and online coercion by adult groups running rampant but it will be sport that exposed the lunacy.
I noticed that yesterday the Mail had 3 critical articles online. I also noted how many men commented on this article about Coe's pronouncement in the Times. They now get it and are speaking out:

www.thetimes.co.uk/article/8f658262-a934-11ec-b5dd-c16e85f55725?shareToken=e329e17d5ac67e9f940004d2775456e4
This sets out coes stance on the matter.
Theres no denying it later.

So as much as I'm sad for all the women who will lose out in the near future and the grass roots level sports will almost die out ( cos what parent wants their kid to play against boys/young men)
At least we have coes own words to damn him with. Admit I'm getting pissed off with all the "kind" men who are really not kind to women.

Is this what competitive sport was like before doping was banned and tested for? Every low life chancer taking a shot.

tabbycatstripy · 27/03/2022 11:03

'Is this what competitive sport was like before doping was banned and tested for? Every low life chancer taking a shot.'

Yes, and I imagine audiences went up. People love a good controversy. The only way to counter it is for everyone to stop watching it.

VelvetChairGirl · 27/03/2022 11:21

so another sporting event I will boycott along with all the sponsors products for the duration of the competition

Plasmodesmata · 27/03/2022 12:41

Cycling does not have a good history with doping (slight understatement there).
Unlikely to be completely resigned to history either - every year they catch someone at it, who knows how many others are doping and not getting caught.
The ethos has always seemed to be "let's see what we can get away with".

SamphiretheStickerist · 27/03/2022 12:54

"Difficult for the science to find level playing field for all"

No. Science will always support single sex sports.

What is 'difficult' is trying to force science to care about individuals and their feelings. That won't work.

Yet still they try.

I still want to know why?

DERFDogmaExlusionary · 27/03/2022 14:20

Funded with public money, British cycling puts Bridges in the female team, who is 2 minutes faster than any adult female on record, including our Olympians like Dame Laura Kenny.

DERFDogmaExlusionary · 27/03/2022 14:24

It was trans inclusive seeing Bridges a trans woman, welcomed by the men on their team. Like Janice Turner said, we can learn about fairness from the Samoans where trans athletes are celebrated in their SEX category. Moving Bridges into the female team has nothing to do with trans inclusion and everything to do with ideology.

NancyDrawed · 27/03/2022 14:31

EB raced in the men's team last month (as EB) and won an individual men's event gold. I foolishly thought that here was a TW who was trailblazing by competing in the appropriate sex class as a TW and I respected him for it. So I am disappointed, but sadly not surprised that he will be competing against women, having shown that he is competitive against men. If he throws the races won't it be obvious based on his performance in the men's category?

I know British Cycling is totally captured, but even they must be able to see how this is just not fair. A man with reduced testosterone is no more a woman, than a woman with raised testosterone is a man. FFS.

KittenKong · 27/03/2022 14:39

Why are they competing in the mens races then?

PermanentTemporary · 27/03/2022 14:40

I'd be happy for practically anything Emily and other trans athletes need to feel comfortable in an appropriate category to happen - the most obvious being renaming the 'men's' category as open. I think I'm right in saying that cycling is one of the sports where the men's category really is male and there may or may not be defensible reasons for that - I know for example that being part of a peleton has written and unwritten rules of behaviour because of the risks that cyclists represent to each other when racing. It would be nice if Phillipa York would put her energies into untangling that one, at least in explaining what the rules currently are, why and how that could potentially be changed, rather than the totally futile mind-game of trying to pretend that it's fine both to pretend sex doesn't exist and also that sex-based categories should continue.

CatsOperatingInGangs · 27/03/2022 14:55

Moving Bridges into the female team has nothing to do with trans inclusion and everything to do with ideology.

It’s everything to do with money. If your job is dependant on ensuring BC win X medals and therefore keep their millions of pounds of public funds, why wouldn’t you move EM across to the womens?

CurrantTeacake · 27/03/2022 14:58

@KittenKong

Why are they competing in the mens races then?
They will have to change the gender marker on their race license to change catagories. So whilst it still says male, EB has been racing in the mens, as soon as it changes to female, they can change. As EB is meant to be racing in the womens on Saturday, I imagine someone in a BC office will be changing EB’s race license as we speak.
FemaleAndLearning · 27/03/2022 15:02

Bridges did race in the men's last month, but his team has dropped him due to injuries so the women's races are fair game now.

I'm going to Derby to support the women cyclists.

KittenKong · 27/03/2022 15:29

But currant - they say they are female, so won’t competing in the mens race be ‘triggering’ or something?

SamphiretheStickerist · 27/03/2022 15:35

Oh @KittenKong do sod off with your incessant logic!

KittenKong · 27/03/2022 15:42

But but but… I need to know!

SamphiretheStickerist · 27/03/2022 15:53

Tough titty, little kitty 🙂

KittenKong · 27/03/2022 15:56

Look I’m the youngest of 5 - 3 of whom were teens when I was born.

I’m a professional ‘but whyyyyy’ artist!

Moppincraxy · 27/03/2022 16:04

I would be interested to know if Kier Starmer thinks this is fair.

Seema1234 · 27/03/2022 16:05

FGS kitten it's not difficult. EB is a man. He has been through male puberty so has more muscle mass, lung capacity, strength etc than women. Just because EB has lowered his testersterone he is not a woman. He is therefore cheating. If sex didn't matter ask yourself why sports are generally segragated by sex?

His feeling 'triggered' does not mean and other men like him get to trample over women's sports and deny a woman a place in a race, a medal, etc.

KittenKong · 27/03/2022 16:11

Um, it’s me, Kitten here… I totally get it. I just don’t ‘get’ the whole nonsense…

BootsAndRoots · 27/03/2022 16:16

We hear all of the stories from transsexual people that they would kill themselves if they don't get their surgery and are desperate to go on cross-sex hormones as soon as possible.

But strangely enough all of these trans athletes seem to be loathed to take cross-sex hormones or have any surgery. Why?

CatsOperatingInGangs · 27/03/2022 16:34

Having had a look at the BC website, EB has been competing in the mens races for many months. Why wasn’t it triggering then? Kitty makes a good point.
It’s almost, just almost, like they are picking and choosing which category when it suits them.
