The Daily Telegraph exclusive reports today that Commonwealth Games chiefs have agreed on new gender rules, which could pave the way for a trans woman to race for a female cycling medal.

The DT understands a potential contender, who previously competed in male categories is in serious contention to be picked. The cyclist has yet to formally confirm they want to compete in Birmingham.

The DT is now in full campaign mode re the trans in sport issue.

The sports section today has the following double page spread

Erm this is silly. Emily has said quite clearly that she's competing in men's races until she meets the current criteria for women's ones. She doesn't have to have surgery and frankly I'm glad, I don't think anyone should have it, especially not at Emily's age. I have a relative who has had huge complications post that surgery.

I don't agree with any of these rules but Emily is sticking to them. It's not difficult to understand what's happening.

KittenKong · 27/03/2022 17:23

We can see what’s happening. What’s silly is that is it allowed to happen.

SamphiretheStickerist · 27/03/2022 17:23

@Seema1234

FGS kitten it's not difficult. EB is a man. He has been through male puberty so has more muscle mass, lung capacity, strength etc than women. Just because EB has lowered his testersterone he is not a woman. He is therefore cheating. If sex didn't matter ask yourself why sports are generally segragated by sex?

His feeling 'triggered' does not mean and other men like him get to trample over women's sports and deny a woman a place in a race, a medal, etc.

I should have added a sarcastic emoji... Kitten and I were being all ironic!
KittenKong · 27/03/2022 17:37

Sorry … I assumed people knew I am always sarcastic. I’m Scottish after all. Smile

@MoltenLasagne

I just thought to myself Bridges beats Laura Kenny there will be a big kick off because Kenny is the darling of women's cycling. But then I realised that I've lost track of how many times I thought that the next thing must be the one to tip the boat...
Kenny’s husband is now a coach for Cycling GB. It will be interesting to see where he falls on this . I hope he and Laura have enough clout and enough bottle to be honest to be listened to. Coe is starting to make noises but he is “ all about the testosterone” and not acknowledging the advantages that male puberty automatically and irrevocably gives to athletes, the physiological changes that are not affected by lowering testosterone, the bone and muscle size, the pelvic floor development, the lung and heart size, the twitch response, the residual reduced recovery time. Sharron Davies and other ex sportswomen and some men are starting to speak up, but it needs people who can directly influence National and international sports governing bodies to denounce this unfairness.

(Hoping for the Princess Royal to step up here, but doubting that will happen!)

@BootsAndRoots

We hear all of the stories from transsexual people that they would kill themselves if they don't get their surgery and are desperate to go on cross-sex hormones as soon as possible.

But strangely enough all of these trans athletes seem to be loathed to take cross-sex hormones or have any surgery. Why?

EB was quite happy to continue to compete in male categories when it appeared that by continuing to race as a male they were highly tipped for medals in Paris, it appears it was only when injury put an end to that outcome that their need to transition became the priority.
PermanentTemporary · 27/03/2022 18:09

Emily Bridges seems to be 21. Why on earth would anyone think she would transition much before that? Can we stop assuming the worst about individuals? The problem is these daft rules and the fact that the leadership levels seem determined to stick to them.

viques · 27/03/2022 18:12

@Tarne

I am all for inclusion. Trans people should have their own cycling, swimming and other athletic categories. End of.
Trans people already do have access to these categories, if they enter according to their sex !

The problem would be that creating trans specific categories would be niche and so not attract sponsorship and funding, therefore would not be attractive propositions to people hoping to make a living from their sport. (This also explains why not very good male sports people are so keen to muscle in on womens sports.)

bellinisurge · 27/03/2022 18:15

Sunlight. I hate that proper athletes have to suffer to give these cheats a place in a competition but it will bring sunlight.
Sharron Davies, Tessa Sanderson, Daley Thompson and, in Ireland, Sonia O'Sullivan have spoken up about it. These athletes are national treasures . There will only be more respected voices talking about this not fewer.

MumsMetHer · 27/03/2022 18:51

Ah well let's just hope that poor old Emily Bridges doesn't get her period and resulting period pains on race day. That would be an awful disadvantage of being so genuinely female Hmm

They are a big girl (six foot 1) so I have no doubt they will be brave and cope.
Snoozer11 · 27/03/2022 21:14

Beardy Irish radio DJ Keith Walsh has said that "this is not an issue". So that's us told.

The piece of shit also claimed to be an ally of women after the murder of Ashling.

FemaleAndLearning · 27/03/2022 21:24

In one of those articles poor Emily described Emily's height as a disadvantage.

ivykaty44 · 27/03/2022 21:28

Terrible shame for the women who will lose out but it's a long game.

It would be a long game if it was men’s sport being decimated

By the time this is sorted there won’t be woman’s sport, what’s the fecking point

viques · 27/03/2022 21:37

@FemaleAndLearning

In one of those articles poor Emily described Emily's height as a disadvantage.
Chris Hoy six foot 1

Bradley Wiggins six foot 3

Yes, I can see how height can really hold back both road and track cyclists. Tragedy really.

British cycling trans policy "If there are any issues relating to a Participant’s Gender Identity, or the challenge of it, these should be reported to the British Cycling Legal and Integrity Department. Contact can be made by calling 0161 274 2000 and asking to speak with the British Cycling Compliance and Safeguarding Manager or by emailing [email protected].

Rod Findlay – INTEGRITY AND COMPLIANCE DIRECTOR
He also oversees anti-doping policies

What are the differences between male and female skeletons?
"The biological sex of an adult skeleton can be determined with 95% accuracy by measuring the hip bones alone. . . We are different to males and ignoring that difference ignores the lived experience and needs of females. Equality of opportunity is about treating everyone fairly, not the same."

lamujerenfadada · 28/03/2022 16:21

You can also complain direct to the Board. [email protected]

AndAsIfByMagic · 28/03/2022 16:23

We need a year of all women refusing to take part in any sporting event where those born male are declaring themselves female. Or refuse to start when the gun goes off/whistle goes.

SweatyChamoisPad · 28/03/2022 16:30

If emailing BC then I'd bypass the board@email address. Write to the following female board members:
Kathy Gilchrist
Marian Lauder
Tabitha Rendall
Julie Watts

Rod Findlay left a few weeks ago apparently. There's a bit of "churn" going on at BC at the moment.

I was just comng to say that I had heard that too. There's a bit of a 'to do' with some ACE programmes, elite juniors getting a little worried!

CatsOperatingInGangs · 28/03/2022 17:59

Is he hiding from the tsunami of shit that heading toward British Cycling or had he left?

Trans cyclist will be allowed in Commonwealth Games
thinkingaboutLangCleg · 28/03/2022 18:20

You only need two categories.

  1. Simply continue to have men's sport and women's sport, with transpeople competing against their own natal sex.

or

  1. Have women's sport and open (for anyone) sport.
MoltenLasagne · 28/03/2022 18:35

Emily Bridges has admitted they "just want to be competitive again", they have also admitted that they only decided to bring forward their transition when they discovered they were no longer going to be picked for the male team for the Paris Olympics. Conveniently the latter articles have since been scrubbed but the dead links are still available via Google if you search.

NancyDrawed · 28/03/2022 18:47

But Emily is competitive - he won a men's race last month!!

Seainasive · 28/03/2022 19:07

I’ll be going next week with my family - got tickets before I read about this. Still, it may be a learning opportunity for my very woke teen Grin
