Can I ask people to fill this in? Scotland is probably going to vote against the needs of women and girls. We will then need to raise money for the court battles.

Thank you, will look out my consultation submission.

334bu · 21/03/2022 18:15

Should this not also be on the Scotsnet board?

CatherinaJTV · 21/03/2022 19:08

I seriously can't wait for the GRA reform to be passed, just for the fuss to end.

I was just thinking what an odd motivation that would be for any substantial political, social, and civic change. The nearest example that I could think of was: "Get [X] done" as everything is reducible to facile terms. I was wondering what might underpin it and then I read this from Kathleen Stock.

When immersed in a fiction, your direct aim isn’t to recognise and respond to the world as it actually is, right now. To borrow a phrase from philosophy, your thoughts and behaviour aren’t directly “truth-tracking”. That’s usually OK, because fictions are supposed to be harmless bits of fun, or interesting encounters with possible-but-not-actual scenarios, or useful simulations of other people’s experiences, but what they are not supposed to be are accurate reports of reality as you personally find it now. When immersed, it’s as if many of your thoughts are flying parallel to earth without touching it.

Hoardasurass · 21/03/2022 19:16

Thanks I will fill it later

CatherinaJTV · 21/03/2022 19:16
Hmm

Nothing is going to change for cis people by passing the GRA reform. Life is going to get a bit easier for trans people. That's a good thing and that is all.

The fuss won't end Not till there is a clear separation of sex and gender An acknowledgment that sex matters in lots of situations where gender is irrelevant A clear protection for children
CatherinaJTV · 21/03/2022 19:20

GRA reform changes nothing of relevance for cis people. It doesn't endanger children.

Please don't use the word "Cis". It's offensive. Women aren't a subset of their own sex class. And if you seriously don't think anything is going to change for women, then please read more widely. These boards are a great place to start.

Rodedooda · 21/03/2022 19:22

If one side can acknowledge and agree with the need for the lives of people with trans identies to be easier why can't there be equal respect and consideration to the risks to women of self Id?

Have you been aware of any of the news over the weekend? Angry

Did you just imply that people must be cis or trans gender ? How rude

way to miss the point. If you are not trans, nothing is going to change for you.

I have read widely, including on this board. Nothing is going to change for people who are not trans.
Apollo441 · 21/03/2022 19:41

The fuss won't end. It will NEVER end until we replace gender with sex everywhere it matters. And every time a man abuses these lax laws to hurt women we will make a song and dance about it and remind everyone how this came about. Prisons, changing rooms, rape crisis shelters, sports. You think we will shut up just because you have rammed this law through? You think that you have won? We won't shut up until it is repealed.

mudgetastic · 21/03/2022 19:44

Way to miss the point- well people might notice your point if you didn't first insult your audience

Lots of people think they are transgender because they think gender exists

Throw out gender , free yourself and suddenly a lot falls into place

Some people are truely fixed as gender / sexed body dysmorphic but many more I suspect are only experiencing this because of external gender constraints

mudgetastic · 21/03/2022 19:47

Basically this act is denying people the support that they need

DomesticatedZombie · 21/03/2022 19:49

Right. Women will still be told their rape 'didn't happen' because 'there were no males present', right?

What's a 'cis'? Genuinely interested.

I bet you can’t but “ the fuss” as you call it isn’t going to die down. The fight for the rights of women and children will continue.
DomesticatedZombie · 21/03/2022 19:57

@334bu

Should this not also be on the Scotsnet board?
Yes, it should. I was planning to waiting to hear from MBM/ForWomen Scotland as to any advice for how best to fill it in, but given how the SNP tend to treat 'consultations' maybe not all that much point.
mudgetastic · 21/03/2022 20:01

@DomesticatedZombie

Right. Women will still be told their rape 'didn't happen' because 'there were no males present', right?
Nope

Because we will continue to fuss

Sillydoggy · 21/03/2022 20:02

The Scotsman article said they were intending to ignore any issues that were not 'directly relevant to the bill' so be sure to be specific when answering.

OldCrone · 21/03/2022 20:14

@DomesticatedZombie

More women will be told their rape 'didn't happen' because 'there were no males present'.

If someone has a GRC, and hospital staff have become aware of that in their treatment of that person, they are prevented by the GRA (section 22) from disclosing that that person was born the opposite sex to any other person, such as other patients.

Self-ID, which the Scottish Government wants to introduce, means that any man will be able to acquire a GRC just by making a declaration that he intends to 'live as a woman'. So there will be more males who are legally female, given access to women's hospital wards and prisons, and protected under section 22 (the gaslighting clause). Rapists will find this very useful.

Nothing is going to change for cis people by passing the GRA reform. Life is going to get a bit easier for trans people. That's a good thing and that is all.

Women's shelters losing funding, women prisoners having to share showers with make sex offenders, female pupils having to share toilets with male pupils, female patients being forced to share sleeping accommodation with male patients etc. Etc. All of this has happened because organisations have preempted self I'd legislation , so don't tell Scottish women that nothing will change.as it already has and will only get worse.
