Emma Watson's dig at JKR

IamSarah · 15/03/2022 07:39

It appears she said at the BAFTAs 'I am here for all of the witches... bar one'

Disappointing but not unexpected.

@TheMarzipanDildo

“Hate to break this one to you but, as an Ivy League alumnus, I’m going to take a punt she’s a damn lot more intelligent than most of the posters here.”

I suspect she’s just a damn sight richer.

She went to a bunch of private schools, did some of the easiest A levels available (dropping for 4 to 3 because she couldn’t cope), then did her degree in English over five years. That don’t impress me much… Neither does her ‘feminism’ which involved getting paid to take her top off for a photoshoot.

Neither does her acting, I’ve always found Emma Watson pretty but talentless, and bitter about owing everything to JKR who is one of the most talented women in the world.

But you keep dragging JK into things to keep yourself on the front page Emma 🙄

idiotfacelicker · 15/03/2022 10:42

Out of interest, what are these three "easiest A levels available"?

WinterTrees · 15/03/2022 10:42

@EeeICouldRipATissue

Some are kind, some are not. Shoot us all now!

That's a misunderstanding of what was said - it was berating her for not being kind enough.
Whenever that's said by a non '' GC'' viewpoint it's immediately scorned and talk about' 'we don't have to be kind' ' or not pandering to hurty feelz.
This time though it's let slide, and excused away.
Why?
Of course there are kind people and not kind people.
Never said otherwise.

'Be kind' is used as a stick to get women to give up their rights. Understandably women want to reject the way females are socialised to move over and make space for men, which is why here on FWR women are often reminded that they don't have to 'be kind'.

Showing decency and respect to the high-profile woman who gave you your big break and was, for many of your formative years, a friend and mentor, is not the same thing. Refraining, in a ten-second speech, from seizing the chance to stab her in the back, is hardly being a victim of female socialisation. It's just being a decent human being with a shred of personal integrity.

@MrsWooster

Janesmom “Hate to break this one to you but, as an Ivy League alumnus, I’m going to take a punt she’s a damn lot more intelligent than most of the posters here.” You ain’t frum round here, are ye?
Given her comment, she clearly isn’t able to use critical thinking so no, I very much doubt she’s “more intelligent” than most of the people here.
sourdoughismyreligion · 15/03/2022 10:43

She's a boring over-privileged youngish woman. Her life is so far removed from the lives of women in the UK it is astonishing she feels entitled to speak for us.

She supports trans demands because she can't imagine herself in a position where she'll ever be negatively impacted by them.

She won't be at her small town bus station at 10PM hovering her privileged posterior over a piss soaked toilet seat, and then navigating her way out of the mixed sex toilet past the local drunk who leers at her tits and mutters something filthy.

She can't see herself in prison having to shower with one of the male prisoners who self-identify as women for the duration of their sentence.

She can't imagine herself as a vulnerable elderly woman in need of assistance in bathing, and after requesting a woman to do the job opening up the door to find her 'female' carer is very obviously male.

If she's ever in a domestically abusive relationship with a man, she has her own wealth to rely on. She won't need to flee with nothing but the clothes on her back to a shelter which to her horror she finds is mixed sex and she's expected to talk about her experiences of sexual abuse in front of a member of the same sex who abused her.

She can't imagine any of these situations so she doesn't see them, and she rejects them. They don't apply to Watson or her privileged life among the global elites and therefore they don't matter.

Beamur · 15/03/2022 10:45

Calling her a witch has to be a Harry Potter reference! The irony.
Btw, what did she actually get a BAFTA for? That seems to have been a bit lost in the reporting of her alleged shade to JKR..

ImAvingOops · 15/03/2022 10:47

She is still using JKR, to whom she owes her fame, to project her own shiny, glittery rainbow credentials.

This nails it for me and is why I have such a dislike for EW - her behaviour is parasitic. Of course it's okay to have a different view to JKR. But she has done very well out of her association with JKR yet has shown no sympathy or understanding or respect for JKR's real life experiences, hasn't condemned the awful behaviour JKR had been subjected to online. She's too busy garnering favour from men who would trample over her in a heartbeat if she got in their way!
Biting the hand that feeds is never a good look.

littlbrowndog · 15/03/2022 10:47

She never got a bafta. She was presenting one beamur

Rebel Wilson had a dig at JKR

I watched it

Rebel Wilson was pretty awful. The cake thing and the bra ting was cringy

Mercifully we don’t live in a world where those with a high IQ and an expensive education are superior beings who have a right never to be questioned.

Either way, if you're slagging someone off in public, have the guts to say it out loud.

This is what struck me, the mumbling of whatever it was she said. Either say it and own it, or don't say it in public. But if you want be a role model and stand for something you believe in then be clear about it. She is a grown woman with a huge profile and platform and sniggering a jibe (if that's what it was) only shows she has neither confidence in her position or the character to stand up to scrutiny.

MoiraQ · 15/03/2022 11:12

I'm no fan of Emma Watson at all, but I thought the "bar one" was directed at Rebel Wilson in a jokey tit for tat in response to being called a witch.
Also the pp who remarked about dropping 4 A levels to 3 - there's no benefit to 4 A levels, in fact there can be downsides. DD's school encourages dropping one. Taking a degree over more years because you are working is also nothing to be ashamed of. This kind of petty sniping demeans the whole argument.

In stark contrast to JK Rowling, who very much owns everything she says.
EeeICouldRipATissue · 15/03/2022 11:23

did some of the easiest A levels available
You took them too, did you?
Otherwise how would you know?!
Or is this just another snob post '' I'm considerably cleverer than yow'' (reminds me of the Harry Enfield' 'richer than yow' ' sketch!

KittyLeMew · 15/03/2022 11:40

Talentless ingrate.

31 and only known for one role which she was dreadful in.

Happy to plop out a TWAW or snidey comment but to actually debate the issue? No. If she did, she would fail.

She will come to regret this.

Fieldofgreycorn · 15/03/2022 11:43

I'm no fan, but to me it looks like she says "by the way" not "bar one".

I thought it was ‘by the way’ as well. Didn’t even cross my mind that it would be ‘bar one’.
She hasn’t said anything about JkR in the past. All she said was that she supports trans people etc. She’s never actually mentioned JKR. She’s allowed to not have the same views.

Rebel Wilson made a trans faux pas at a previous awards ceremony, so may now be on a kissing arse mission.

LaTisaniere · 15/03/2022 11:51

Did anyone criticising actually watch the show? She says she's here for all the witches because Rebel called her a witch seconds earlier, she also doesn't say "bar one" she says "by the way".

Goodness me - JKR has a dig at people she disagrees with on Twitter and she's a queen, a hero, "what a woman", Emma doesn't even say anything against JKR but people jump to the conclusion that she did and gets a whole thread berating her. Lovely double standards.

Emma Watson's dig at JKR
VelvetChairGirl · 15/03/2022 11:57

bar one?

heres some quotes for her

"Strong people stand up for themselves, but stronger people stand up for others".

"Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter."

"It takes nothing to join the crowd. It takes everything to stand alone."

"Great spirits have always encountered violent opposition from mediocre minds."

she can sit down and think about all that.

All for one and one for all, united we stand, divided we fall.

DarkShade · 15/03/2022 11:59

Erm..... pretty sure she mouths "by the way" not "bar one"?

It would be a weird thing to say otherwise!

DrSbaitso · 15/03/2022 12:03

Why mouth anything at all? Why not just say it?

We know she's a terrible singer but surely she knows how to use a mic by now.

NashvilleQueen · 15/03/2022 12:03

She mouths two words. Not three
