It appears she said at the BAFTAs 'I am here for all of the witches... bar one'

Disappointing but not unexpected.

@BlindGirlMcSqueaky

I'm perfectly content accepting that I don't know everything there is to know about everything. I wonder what makes other people feel so confident in their opinions that they mistake them them with fact?

At least people have had the opportunity to have a nice bitch about Emma Watson though.

Are you still ignoring both the lived expereince and educational knowledge of posters plus the APA?

What WILL you accept?

BlindGirlMcSqueaky · 16/03/2022 12:39

[quote NashvilleQueen]@BlindGirlMcSqueaky you definitely give good effect to the saying that there's no so blind as those that will not see.

You can insult me if that makes you feel better about yourself. How dare I speculate that there may be advancements in the future that give us greater knowledge on this subject! It's an outrage, eh?

BlindGirlMcSqueaky · 16/03/2022 12:42

Yes, I'm still classing 'lived experience' as a lack of scientific evidence. And I'm still completely convinced that there's more to discover as to the origin of this recurrent issue.

Very silly of me, obviously. I should just sit down and stop questioning things!

SamphiretheStickerist · 16/03/2022 12:42

Oh! I have it! A real life case of epistemic relativism. Or would that be alethic? Or Postmodernism, or post post modernism?

My apologies @BlindGirlMcSqueaky I hadn't clicked.

This is a good article about DSD or intersex. By someone who is different

I know thread has moved on but it was brought up earlier

It wasn't an insult. I drew a parallel between your user name and your obvious unwillingness to accept, despite the clearest evidence, that scientific endeavour has advanced sufficiently far that it can be clearly and accurately stated that your sex is immutable and within every cell of your being.

Your arguments demonstrate a total lack of critical thinking.

5zeds · 16/03/2022 12:47

All sorts of things MIGHT happen in the future. I can’t see how that’s relevant.

As for “liking” or not “liking” JKR, why do you care? Some do, some don’t, few know the woman personally. I find her measured and thoughtful, but not awe inspiring. If I was on a train I’d chat to her if she felt like chatting but it wouldn’t be life changing Grin. People who want other people to pretend they can change sex seem to find her infuriating but MOST people don’t think you can change sex so I fail to see why her comments are so incendiary. On the whole adults don’t change what they think because other people tantrum about it.

Of course you are not insulting me. You're merely suggesting that I may be lacking in the ability to think rationally Grin

@BlindGirlMcSqueaky

I'm eager to hear from the omniscient women who have completed science on the thread then, for the precise reason why people report spending their lives feeling like they are in the wrong body?
I actually think this is a very interesting question. I would probably not say 'the wrong body', more like why some people feel strongly discomfort with their own sex. It would be extremely interesting to know what causes this feeling, is there a genetic predisposition, is it trauma, is it socialization/identification, etc etc. I agree we probably do not know this (yet).

But a) this is not different than trying to understand any other mental distress and b) it does certainly not mean that those people are the other sex.

Gumbomambo · 16/03/2022 13:23

I thought it was transphobic “stonewall and mermaids” to describe a person as born in the wrong body now?

Gumbomambo · 16/03/2022 13:24

(Stonewall and Mermaids) not “”.

EeeICouldRipATissue · 16/03/2022 13:30

But, no bother, next week there'll be another thread about JKR and someone will say "ah, I don't really like her" and there'll be cries of "how dare you tear down another woman!"

Yup
And I haven't even posted for a while but being dragged back in and told to be taken away with you Grin
Adds women don't Wheesht (unless you're the wrong type of woman that is then you can)
to the rest of my list
-stay classy

  • don't be too twitchy
  • take her away (in this case off the thread) as is talking too much

Going to need a bigger list at this rate

Yes, I especially love that we've been piled together as the two "insolent" women who need to be removed because we're not agreeing. "Not an echo chamber" and feminism my arse.
Waitwhat23 · 16/03/2022 14:05

I don't think you should be removed. It would be useful if you were able to debate coherently and back up statements made with any sort of evidence so that there could be actual discussion and not repeated, tiresome iterations of 'feminist my arse'.

I always find it interesting which threads posters choose to engage with. There's some fascinating threads running right now about the Forstater case and discussions about the attack on women at at march in Manchester.

I do wonder whether this thread has been screenshot onto Twitter.

Yes, and what makes you think that just because people don't always comment on them, that they're not reading them?
Haven't commented on the Forstater case as I never comment on ongoing cases which it has been, so I haven't been getting involved.
Haven't seen the other thread so can't comment, but will have a look for it.

From my post - 'I always find it interesting which threads posters choose to engage with.

The posts in response to my last post are wonderful examples of the point I was making though. Please keep going not backing up statements and not actually engaging with the discussion. It's brilliantly informative for the (many) lurkers.

LaTisaniere · 16/03/2022 14:30

I can assure you that I don't screenshot and post anything to Twitter, but by all means accuse me of it again because you don't like what I'm saying - I have a different opinion, I must be a troll.

I also don't see what debate there is to be had when pretty much the only thing I've personally commented on is the double standard of mumsnetters berating EW and calling her names when to anyone else (as long as they're on the right side, if course) it's not acceptable as its "tearing women down".

If anyone would like to tell me why it's ok to call Emma Watson names, say she's only where she is in life because she's fuckable, say she bought all of her degrees and more, but not anyone else, I'm more than happy to debate.

SamphiretheStickerist · 16/03/2022 14:34

How dare I speculate that there may be advancements in the future that give us greater knowledge on this subject! It's an outrage, eh?

But this is your idea of a coherent argument @BlindGirlMcSqueaky

Stating the bloody obvious. Holding that blindingly obvious statement up like a simple buckler of protection (like a latterday Jonathan Aitken) and expecting posters not to go "huh?!?!" in utter bemusement.

Gods, but there are times when I miss some of the old obnoxious lags.... they could at least hold up their end of a debate.

BlindGirlMcSqueaky · 16/03/2022 14:40

I don't think you are in a position to criticise other people's style of debate when yours relies on insults about other people's intelligence. I'm sorry, but everyone who disagrees with you is not a simpleton waiting for you to enlighten them.

Waitwhat23 · 16/03/2022 14:47

My only comment about Emma Watson was that it was surprising that she hadn't come up with a better feminist statement (if that was her intention) given that it was a line which had been rehearsed in advance and in response to a poster who said that her intelligence was in stark contrast to the posters on here. If she did mean to make a statement about including all women (i.e. transpeople) or if she did want to make a point about JKR, it was a poor way to do it.

I'm not a fan of nor do I agree with the fuckable comments etc but the comment made repeatedly is that 'feminism, eh?!' if comments are made about someone with whom you disagree. People are perfectly within their right to dislike JKR for example (though I would expect a rational adult to be able to state actual reasons apart from 'I just don't like her') and the same holds for Emma. It's not 'anti feminist' to criticise a woman. There's been posters criticised for saying she's a poor actor for example- they are allowed to think that.
