Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

Sir Bernard Jenkins standing up for women on IWD - and a bunch of female MPs failing to.

This has just popped up on my youtube feed. It is Sir Bernard Jenkin, in the commons on the International Women's Day debate, pushing back against self ID and advocating for women's need for single sex space. Anneliese Dodds has a beef with him when he refers to her performance the other day. Once again, the betrayal of women by several female MPs astonishes and depresses me. Thank you, Sir Bernard.

He's called Danny Kruger and is con MP for Devizes.

Why didn't they have the debate on Tuesday? Better late than never and I can understand some events being on the nearest weekend but people get event fatigue if it seems to drag on for days, as happens with pride that now seems to last about 3 months.

donquixotedelamancha · 10/03/2022 17:12

Wow, that was a great speech. It was interesting to hear a few people in the chamber agreeing with him.

It was also interesting to see alledged rapist Nigel Evans save Anneliese Dodds from having to define what a woman is. She even thanked him for stopping her talking.

I actually think Anneliese knows exactly what a woman is. The problem is that she would be crucified for saying it explicitly, that's why she hides behind the legal definition.

Separate thread by @DomesticatedZombie to discuss Joanna Cherry's wonderful speech.
@DomesticatedZombie it happened earlier today so it'll be on Hansard later.
ta!

This is so depressing.

A middle aged white man in the Conservative party having to defend women’s rights against a female labour member.

Fuck me.

WellThatsMeScrewed · 10/03/2022 17:39

World has gone mad.

Come on women MPs step up to the mark.

The racist expenses cheat Bernard Jenkin? Keeping it classy there guys!

TensionWheelsCooIHeels · 10/03/2022 17:44

Soooo many women ignoring the points made by Jenkins that women are not buying their adherence to gender ideology & no matter how many times they claim the usual mantras, it doesn't wash. Dodds was embarrassing. If she's going to call out what she claims is not an accurate quote, she had the opportunity to correct it & still didn't define woman. She's making her own spinelessness more apparent the longer she tries to deflect from it.

Lifeinthelastlane · 10/03/2022 17:45

What's a shame is that more "morally acceptable" politicians have had their brains removed when it comes to this issue.

She is.

Ithink the Commons debate is always been on the nearest Thursday to the 8 March - has been for the last couple of years, anyway (2021 was the Thursday after Monday 8th, 2020 was the Thursday before Sunday 8th).

What has either of these issues got to do with knowing basic biology?

Agreeing with someone on one issue doesn't mean you agree with them on every issue. Why is something so basic not clear to you, did you not finish primary school? Also, what do you mean by 'classy'? Are women supposed to care more about how 'classy' they look than defending their basic human rights in your eyes? So women are supposed to obey to whatever randomers define as 'classy' rather than giving the issues at hand any thought (which is clearly the case for some of the women in this clip). You sound like you have a very misogynistic view of women.

Dodds saying, "I am a woman, obviously!" How does she know?

'I think that trans-activism is a new form of misogyny' says Danny Kruger MP in the House of Commons debate. Good quote.

In fairness, she did say in that clip that a woman is an adult female, she just skipped over it really quickly.

Highonlovingyou · 10/03/2022 18:28

@Monitaurus

Wow. He has it , even if most of the labour women don’t . Thank you for spelling it out so clearly. Did the labour MP concerned explain her definition later? Hearing the number of rapists identifying as women is really important, but very scary. ( goes off to search for later footage)
How many are there?
poshme · 10/03/2022 18:29

@donquixotedelamancha Nigel evans was found not guilty, and one of the alleged victims in the case actually said he shouldn't have been charged.

AchillesPoirot · 10/03/2022 18:29

This is all fabulous and depressing at the same time.

SpinningTheSeedsOfLove · 10/03/2022 18:29

Bernard Jenkin said 400 and something! No-one disputed it in the debate. Dear god.

Sorry, that's an answer to how many 'women' rapists.

Thank you. I’d like to say I’m shocked by such a high number but sadly I’m not.
