They're at it again. You'd think the last couple of weeks would have highlighted the value of being able to say your reporting was balanced and free from political bias, but there you go.

Out of interest, has David made good on his threat (for want of a better word) to leave Scotland?

WouldIwasShookspeared · 13/03/2022 18:27

@TheAbbotOfUnreason

Oh yes, no fucks given today - JKR in response to Laurie Penny:

I have the self-awareness to know that however upsetting the death and rape threats your fellow activists throw at me are, there are literally billions of people suffering more than I am. You claim to be suffering PTSD because of *bad book reviews

Oh, fucking awesome! I love that woman.
MargaritaPie · 13/03/2022 18:31

@Hasselhoffsheadband

I see Joanna Cherry is firmly back in David Paisley's firing line today, after committing tbe heinous crime of....liking a tweet.

As an aside, didn't all the charges against Marion Millar get dropped?

My understanding (someone can correct me if I'm wrong) is that her charges technically weren't dropped. The prosecution just chose not to continue.

Which means, I think, her trial can continue at any time if the PF decides so.

VestofAbsurdity · 13/03/2022 18:32

It was posted and shared with a hashtag something like #EspeciallyforyouDavidPaisley I believe.

And?

EeeICouldRipATissue · 13/03/2022 18:35

and
Well, seeing as Margarita will have been referring to the poster saying '' it could have been about anyone '' - margaritas commenting with no, actually, it was made clear who it was about - which you can only come back with '' and? ''

Either way I'm not really interested in why a woman who works for an organisation and personally campaigns against lesbian marriage/parents is feeling triste.

That's clear. Not sure why you're slyly trying to implicate JKR in it, especially when you were saying you admire her so much and how Paisley needs to sell more copies of books before he can expect to speak to her? Change of heart with this stunning revelation about Caroline Farrow?

Ereshkigalangcleg · 13/03/2022 19:49

No I don't think that's the case, I think there would be human rights act issues with it being held over her forever. They had a certain amount of time to ask for a review of the decision not to prosecute, that wasn't their decision, IIRC. And that when elapsed they couldn't do it.

DomesticatedZombie · 13/03/2022 19:56

I think there was a period of two or three months in which the crown could 'reactivate' the case, which presumably has now passed.

I think asha was going with what one could call a viciously sarcastic attack on JKR, no?

Maybe so, but I was under the impression that asha thought we were cringey like simping incels or whatever but genuinely admired JKR? Is that right, asha?

The timeline for someone to apply for a right to a review of a decision by the Procurator Fiscal not to prosecute is 'if possible within one month of the date you are informed of our decision not to prosecute'.

@Ereshkigalangcleg

The latest Harry Potter movie actor to come out in support of trans-people is Miriam Margolyes:

If July 2020 is the "latest" then I guess so.

Here is what she said in September 2021. Rather transphobic by TRA standards

“And I don’t quite know what the fuss is about, because my feeling about transgender and transsexuals, and I’ve met a lot — she references a story in the book with a former tutor of hers named Tom — “is until you’ve cut off your cock, you’re a man. Once you’ve cut off your cock, I’ll let you in the loo! I don’t quite know JK Rowling’s feelings, but I think she feels that people who are in the process of changing sex have no right to call themselves a woman. But I don’t think I agree with that. I think that people can call themselves whatever they like, but I don’t call them a woman until they’ve cut off their cock. That’s my position.”

DomesticatedZombie · 13/03/2022 21:55

Hm. I'm not in agreement with Miriam on this but it's a common argument. Most people still presume a transwoman is someone without a penis. We know of course that this is almost always not the case.

ScreamingMeMe · 13/03/2022 22:05

@springtimeishereagain

One of my Twitter contacts has just said they are unfollowing everyone who follows JK Rowling because she's a massive terf and transphobe, citing her support of radical right-wing Caroline Farrow, campaign director at CitizenGO. What do we think?
Personally I would unfollow anyone who tried to police my social media like that.
BraveBananaBadge · 13/03/2022 22:28

I've had this just this evening, springtime and Screaming. A mutual follow who has gone through their list to see who follows JKR, dramatically deploring us all to unfollow her.

It is policing, it's performative, silly virtue signalling and it's a clear indication of the types of people you don't need in your life. I've never had the guts to do so much as like a post from JKR but feel now is probably the time to start!

And I think most assume transwomen are generally sexually attracted to males, not females. I'd be interested to know the statistics but most of those that make the news for whatever reason seem to be sexually attracted to women.

How fucking ridiculous. Playground antics.
Ereshkigalangcleg · 13/03/2022 23:06

The statistics I've seen is that most are heterosexual or bi.

NitroNine · 14/03/2022 05:41

Twitter have now switched it up to something more neutral (& indeed accurate): JKR’s views are being “debated” rather than “criticised”. They’re just views, too, not “controversial” or anything.

Still desperately flogging that dead horse Grin

Honestly, who could be arsed to be around such a petty, vindictive person?

Why do we even bother to give people like this headspace? Most adults left behaviour like this behind in the playground. Imagine how little you must have going on in your life to sit combing through acquaintances social media to check you approve of who they like. Cringe Grin

I’m strongly reminded of the TRA former friend of mine who defriended and blocked me on Facebook, then roundly denounced me as a transphobic to all our mutual friends for the crime of saying I found a joke that Sarah Ditum had made (not remotely connected to anything related to womens rights or trans issues) funny. The correct response should have been to refuse to find Ditum funny, denounce her as a witch, and presumably make a large charitable donation to a charity of my ex friends choice in recompense, I dunno.

Pathetic.

It does make you understand better how McCarthy and the black list got up such a head of stem back in the day, though, with the amount of people who are keen to sniff out dangerous thinking and get busy denouncing

BraveBananaBadge · 14/03/2022 07:41

Even funnier, they did this on the assumption anyone who was following JKR must be doing so to keep an eye on the enemy. The arrogance is staggering!

So not just my contact, then!

I like quite a few of JKR's posts - the ones about donating to Ukraine, etc., not usually her retweets about trans issues - and a colleague the other day said I was 'brave' to do that. Wtf??
