Men can do anything women can

Can they? Looks like you needed not one but two women to be a father. Women can be mothers with just the sperm.

Not the same. So very far from it being the same. Men can be fathers but no they cannot be mothers.

Fertility equality is the current euphemism males are using to hide the fact that they have just exploited at least one female to get a child created just for them. Not to extend their love to a child already created, no. One created just for them.

So special.

Mummyoflittledragon · 06/03/2022 08:51

Taking a child away from their mother, denying the fourth trimester creates a lot of trauma. Often it is unavoidable. Not in this situation.

Whatwouldscullydo · 06/03/2022 09:29

You cant treat it the same for sure.

I mean all men have to do is take a magazine and a cup into a room.

No drugs. No risk of dying in childbirth. No risk of being left with a baby they don't want but who the oarebts refuse to take because its sick/disabled or premature which increases risks if being sick or disabled.

ChopinBoard · 06/03/2022 09:40

These stories make my blood boil. Having children isn't a right. No one is entitled to be a parent. That anyone - male, female, gay, straight, single or couple - thinks it's ok to buy a woman's eggs and commission women [boak] to gestate a foetus for them is so utterly beyond my scope of understanding I honestly cannot fathom how it anyone could do it.

The next stunning and brave frontier, to be sure.

ThatsNotMyGolem · 06/03/2022 09:41

Fertility equality = buying babies and exploiting women's bodies.

Helleofabore · 06/03/2022 10:17

Fertility equality = buying babies and exploiting women's bodies.

Yes, in the cases of males seeking it. I mean, it could be used to describe a co-parenting relationship but I really question how well that works over the lifetime of the child also.

But it feels the focus for males is exploiting women for the male’s gain. And no regard for how that child will feel knowing they were created in this way, for this purpose.

OhHolyJesus · 06/03/2022 10:20

Fertility privilege is another new phrase.

Who in regards to fertility equality would have fertility privilege do you think?

twitter.com/wombsnotforrent/status/1499794343749632005?s=21

Don't keep your privilege of fertility to yourselves ladies, don't be selfish now, do share it around.

I was going to post something after reading this, but I see others have already articulated my feelings. I didn't read many of the comments, but they were mostly the "good luck to them" type rather than any reflection about what it was that he contributed to making this child......

Helleofabore · 06/03/2022 10:45

I was going to say that actually the male has 'fertility privilege' in that they have little to do or risk in the process yet seem to gain plenty of benefits.

IvyTwines · 06/03/2022 11:08

"Avoiding the risk of bonding".

Thelnebriati · 06/03/2022 12:35

The human right to a family life means you have the right to a life without government interference. I feel that (and other human rights) has been twisted into the right to possess something.

Delphinium20 · 06/03/2022 18:30

I fully and wholeheartedly support straight and gay men's right to be legal parents. But that is not the same thing as "fertility equity" and it never will be. Women are disproportionately responsible for creating life and no amount of co-parenting, legal documents, laws, etc. will change this biological reality. We must do all we can not to exploit women when it comes to matters of making babies and we can never forget that children have rights as well. I'm quite sick of how the public seems to ignore reproductive reality. It's such a luxury belief, this "privilege of fertility." I mean, WTF...45 years of periods and worry over birth control, 3-14 years of peri periods which can give some women anemia, menopause and then higher risks of osteoporosis.

The reality of women's fertility is not a glossy happy mother/baby post on Instagram.

Exactly

Buy spern buy eggs. Meh. Same difference.

Flareonsbox · 06/03/2022 19:47

I don't agree. To get sperm, all a man has to do is have a five minute wank.

Removing eggs from a woman requires a medical procedure.

OliviaOliva · 06/03/2022 19:58

The process is a little different, but let's not pretend women haven't been able to buy kids for a long time now. Either by adoption or buying sperm.
Resenting. Men for being parents with out women seems based out of envy and the desire to feel elevated.

TheWeeDonkey · 06/03/2022 20:03

His toddler son keeps getting confused and calling him mummy, but he doesn't have a mum and doesn't understand what it means to have a mum.
One woman was paid $$$to harvest her eggs which will result in early menopause and another woman was paid $$$ to carry and birth his designer baby which carries its own risks.

Oh and the baby was screened because girls are icky and too much like hard work.

How many people have been harmed for him to "live his dream"?

The audacity FFS

OliviaOliva · 06/03/2022 20:09

When lesbians go to a sperm bank there is no father. When gays go to egg bank there is no mother.

The situations are legally and ethically the same

OldCrone · 06/03/2022 20:27

When gays go to egg bank there is no mother.

In that case there can be no baby.

Helleofabore · 06/03/2022 20:31

Not at all.

I consider any person who exploits another women’s body to produce a child in most cases to be an issue and that they have no moral high ground to speak from.

There is no ‘envy’ at all.

OliviaOliva · 06/03/2022 20:33

Women exploit men .en exploit women. If Zandra Bullock and Rosie and Ellen can do it why not Niel Pateick Harris?

MrsJamin · 06/03/2022 21:02

It's the entitlement that's sickening. He's going to leave his son being orphaned by the time he's 30, probably.

tilder · 06/03/2022 21:12

I admit this whole thing does make me look at sperm donation in a different light.

It is beyond disingenuous to suggest male donar involvement is the same as female. Man has a wank. Gives sperm. Woman either donates eggs (requiring considerable medical intervention) or carries a baby for 9 months (with all the physical and mental health risks involved).

The two are no way comparable. Creating a baby requires far more input from a woman than a man. With far greater risk.

OliviaOliva · 06/03/2022 21:17

That's why women are compensated 1000 % more at least.

Helleofabore · 06/03/2022 21:27

@OliviaOliva

And I don’t agree that they should do it either.

However, if they are and are using their own eggs, at least that is one less woman they are exploiting.

It is not that hard to understand.
