Russian Funding of anti-woke

It seems that someone has 'followed the money' and Putin's manipulation is everywhere amongst the anti-woke, including the Gender Critical. As the press rallies behind Putin by blaming the West's obsession with being woke ( obviously not the press obsessively being anti-woke ) it appears that so many easily influenced people have been victim to his manipulation and money

apophenia is one of my favourite words. Again, it tends to turn up in critical thinking modules as one of the fallacies to be wary of because it can lead to confusing correlation, co-occurrence, and causation such as pirates and global warming.

Let's face it, if you were a Russian agent wanting to destabilise western society, gender ideology seems like a good way to do it. Ukrainian men and women are taking up arms to defend their homes, yet apparently grown adults in the UK are mortally offended by some ribbons.

I listened to a Triggernometry podcast with a Russian libertarian and he said that all those attempts to blame Russia for anything unpopular by the liberal elite in the West was nonsense but it actually ended up giving Russia power as it made Russia feared and to seem incredibly clever.

I've more than a niggling feeling that we would find ourselves deeply troubled at the morality of those outcomes for children no matter how people convince themselves about the right side of history…

The Triggernormatry guys did an episode where they specifically talked about the culture wars as being an element that would make it difficult for the west to respond to something like aggression from Russia. Due to social division but also, because a society that sees its values and culture as basically evil doesn't have much moral authority to act in an interventionist way.

They weren't all that optimistic I have to say.

But the thing is, we know that Russia does in fact try and inflame these kinds of culture wars, and they do it because they think it's in their interest in some way.

The real gap in understanding is this idea that the OP seems to have that Putin is pro-GC and tricking people into believing that. Well, sure, in the same way he's pro-trans and would like to trick people into believing that.

The idea that either group is just somehow representing the evil views of Vlad is bizarre.

The image DoM posted appears to be a google translated version of a tweet by Pablo Iglesias, a Dr. of Political Science at UCM in Madrid, so likely a reasonable source (though this is a tweet, not a peer reviewed research paper). The groups that Iglesias is saying have received money from Russian Oligarchs are generally Catholic, orthodox or otherwise conservative christian advocacy groups who oppose most tenets of feminism, are anti-abortion, anti-homosexuality, etc. They are not the sorts of groups the vast majority of posters (even the trolls) on FWR would want to be associated with.

This is just another attempt to push the idea that gender critical women are just shills for intolerant churches. It ignore the truth that the vast majority of women who speak out with gender critical views in the UK are left wing and liberal. That they were generally Labour voters and frequently left wing activists. That many are atheists or agnostics. That they are against shoring up the patriarchy. That they are concerned about the welfare of vulnerable populations and interested in ensuring everyone can live safely and without fear. What gender critical feminists want is nothing like what these right wing religious organizations are advocating for.

How surprised is anyone that @DesperateMancheater hasn't come back to see how his post is doing?

Is Putin secretly gender critical and deeply upset about the invasion of single sex spaces? And after putting lots of money into defending single sex spaces, he suddenly got really cross at the lack of success and thought “I’d just invade Ukraine, that will show the TRAs”?

I'm finding it amusing that the 'I Punch Fascists' people are now eschewing the opportunity of a lifetime to actually punch a few fascists and are instead all over Twitter claiming that Europe is just an arbitrary construct, it's just white people squabbling, blah-blah colonialism, Ukrainians should just move out to preserve the peace, etc. All those fantasies about what they would have done when faced with Hitler and it turns out they would have indulged in industrial-strength whataboutery and cultural relativism.
