This is where we are, people. Have you now or have you ever stressed the word 'female' in a way that could be 'easy misinterpreted'? Because if so, we're going to need to check your thinking.

(How is it, incidentally, that people apparently so aware of FWR’s existence are somehow so unaware its demography is NOT “white middle-class mums”? There’s nothing wrong with being any or all of those things & “mum” is often also a shop assistant or manager/teacher/HCP/gardener/dancer/bus driver/cleaner/research scientist/painter - or [formerly] employed in pretty much any field there is out there with associated transferable skills. People running in to screenshot things for Twitter - and to endlessly mither at MNHQ - can’t possibly miss ALL the discussions that demonstrate, over & over, that they’re chatting bubbles when it comes to the [massively sexist] tropes they use when trying to dismiss anything & everything said here, can they?)

I have lurked on these discussions extensively, and I believe their assumption goes as follows:
these women are literate and typically demonstrate good command of English spelling and grammar. Therefore they must be white and middle-class.

No man is likely to be punished for saying they love being one as they would feel no need to say it

Harris (16K followers) is reposting a handful of tweets from people whose entire follower base can't be much more than 1000, and it's been weaponised against all transgender people. Bindel and the Mail have jumped on it. This is how it works.

The assertion was that trans people were not tweeting that Adele was transphobic; the thread I posted shows many tweets from trans people or 'allies' saying that Adele was transphobic. It's fairly straightforward.

I'm suggesting that when you pick a tiny unrepresentative and uninfluential sample of people and suggest their views apply to a supposed vast and powerful conspiracy of others and amplify it to the extent that it ends up in the Mail, there is another agenda. It's straight from the right-wing culture wars playbook.

Aha. Now I understand. You're strawfeministing. Iit's not about detecting a "conspiracy". It's about gauging the zeitgeist. Follower numbers aren't the key; the key is how much pushback there is from other people within the community.

Well that made me laugh. I've been radicalised to believe exactly what I believed before I joined MN all those years ago. Most of the world believed the same thing back then. Remember those days? People can't change sex. Not even by wearing different clothes and changing your name. Ah, the heady days of being able to state facts without being called a raging transphobe.
