Just catching up.

In summary: women being told off for being unkind and debating wrong, getting het up about nothing.

It leaves me absolutely baffled as to what the barriers could be to women entering politics...

MerryPoppings · 01/02/2022 22:42

Yes, and asking difficult questions

Get back in your box, women.

Redshoeblueshoe · 01/02/2022 22:49

I don't think the question What is a woman ? is difficult, unless you are a politician

YetAnotherSpartacus · 01/02/2022 23:24

Yes - seems Justine is getting some flack on Twatter

Still trending. Being kept off the number one spot by Boris.

Mimmybirthingfury still ranting about how awful we are.

Is'nt it funny that the questions raised were about women and women's rights, but twitter and the reporting is about "anti-trans"?

I'm not aware of "anti-trans" on here. Am I missing the terrible hate, or is talking about women and women's rights inherently anti-trans nowadays?

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 01/02/2022 23:50

Hope you are ok, Justine. I'm sure this is a total headache.

MerryPoppings · 01/02/2022 23:52

The "anti-trans" is a deliberate smokescreen to try to stop people looking too closely at what's actually going on. Add on the cries of bigot etc. It's part of their "no debate" ploy.

Enough4me · 01/02/2022 23:53

It's so funny,
TRAs= MN is full of radicalised women!

Women= MN is full of women

Who knows women best, men or women... surely WOMEN!

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 01/02/2022 23:58

It's lazy journalism and even lazier politics too, isn't it?

I have literally no opinion on trans rights. AFAICS they have equal rights, they are less likely to be assaulted, they have plenty of government funding and support in workplaces. Waiting lists are a scandal, 3 year waits (and the rest) are causing real harm - but the issue there is the lack of staff in gender clinics and that most probably relates to the questionable practices within, as established by assorted court cases.

I am not interested in trans issues because they don't look that pressing to me.

Unlike the fact that there are 3 dead women a week most weeks. And I don't even know the names of the women who have been killed by men this week because the press hasn't commented on them. Presumably the inevitable dead women weren't pretty enough to be worth reporting on.

That interests me. That even in death we are objectified.

I don't want to debate anything either. I want my rights and I want women to be safe, with dignity and privacy. Can't understand why anyone would disagree.

FOJN · 02/02/2022 00:04

TRAs= MN is full of radicalised women!

Isn't that quite a transphobic assumption?

Enough4me · 02/02/2022 00:09

Womenphobia seems more apt for the name-calling that is happening to MN posters.

Bosky · 02/02/2022 03:02

Blimey!! I've just read through the Webchat and then all the posts in this thread.

@StellaCreasy and @CarolineNokesWebchat If tagging you means there is a chance you might get a notification that you have been mentioned, I would highly recommend that you read this thread, with particular attention to these posts by:

In the vain hope that they might drop by:

Caroline, Chair of the Women and Equalities Select Committee, do you get it now??

Stella, how about you?

No? Does this help?

"In Mexico this government department HAS to be 50% men and 50% women. 18 in total, 9 of each sex. It is now comprised of 9 men and 9 men who identify as women."

Still struggling with basic logic?

Try these:

CLIP: The Transgender Jedi Mind Trick
6 mins Jenn Smith, Transgender Identified Male *

*Mods: that is how Jenn Smith identifies.

Gender Ideology - Part 15 - Coda
10 mins: The documentary ends with a look at the consequences of the gender ideology, as well as thanking some of those people standing up against it.

=======

ps. Stella, what were you trying to say in your answer here? I know you said you were holding a wriggling child but . . .

TedsFederationRep
How do you define "gender"?

Do you understand why so many women believe that any parliamentary bill that includes the phrase "sex or gender" is actually doing the job of trying to remove or deny our sex-based rights?

they would be mistaken - for example, by including this in hate crime laws we can learn from best policing practice. Would flag that hate crime is about holding to account a perpetrator - for example, if they perceive someone to be a particular ethnicity and attack them, then their perception is critical to the crime. Including Sex or gender in hate crime would for the first time give women the protection from being targeted for who they are, and ensure no perpetrator could have a defence which is based on demeaning the victim or be overlooked because of wrongly assigning a victim.

Could you give examples that would help to clarify because I cannot make head nor tail of this?

=========

If there is no reply from Stella and a constituent reads this, please could you drop Stella a line to ask her and let us know what she says?

Only just caught up with this as electricity cut out at the crucial moment. I would vote for anyone who was involved yesterday in commenting...so much knowledge here, but can completely understand why women would want to avoid politics if this is the level of “debate”. All the points made were valid and necessary and it was unnecessary to delete them. Although it may have been a thousand watching, there were many thousands cheering on and wishing the two politicians would just answer the question. They could have moved on so easily .... However having seen and heard CN in action interrogating eminent women compared to the kindness shown to the men participating I have no doubt that getting women into parliament is not what she is interested in.
Thank you to all involved. I think we know where we are.

Ahoyashipg · 02/02/2022 06:48

Posie is going through the whole . She's gloriously furious. Grin

WarriorN · 02/02/2022 07:36

Bosky for pm.

Sadly I think they're like us. I tweet from behind a fake name. I'm here incognito.

They're watching what's happened to Rosie et al.

I don't like to think that they can't be clever enough to see it. I know some Cant. And some refuse for career purposes. (KB)

highame · 02/02/2022 07:38

I wonder when politicians will get that if you close down debate or refuse to acknowledge issues, you will create anger.

To Stella Creasey and Caroline Noakes.....We are the electorate, and if our views don't count, why should we be paying your salaries and why should we support you.

You can no longer pretend that progressive is a good and fair thing for women

BridasShieldWall · 02/02/2022 07:38

I am hoping that politicians read that webchat and see how angry women are about losing their rights and the impact on dignity, safety and equality. This is not just a niche issue that ‘never comes up on the doorstep’. I should imagine politicians now have a difficult choice - they want to be on Mumsnet for its access to female voters but don’t want to answer questions on this issue.

This is an issue that crosses party lines. My SIL don’t agree on anything politically and have many opposing views. This is the ONE issue we agree on and in her words, ‘Be Kind? Fuck that’.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 02/02/2022 07:39

Mimmybirthingfury still ranting about how awful we are.

Perhaps she could set up MimmyMumsnet? I'm sure it would be a roaring success.

WarriorN · 02/02/2022 07:42

I don't know how Posie says she's not a radfem; she agrees with many core principles. Eg women being supported to look after their babies!

FOJN · 02/02/2022 09:05

Excellent response from Glinner. I thought he asked the question because Eddie has spoken about standing for election and it was disingenuous of Stella to deflect and then try to make it seem like Ginner was responsible for abuse she said she had received.

Franca123 · 02/02/2022 09:11

Apparently Stella would support Eddie being on an all female shirt list. So why didn't she directly defend this position? Infuriating.

Iwishihadariver · 02/02/2022 09:22

Be kind? No. Just keep slogging on. Men are not women and women are allowed to say so.

And keep on listening to what politicians say and vote accordingly.

WarriorN · 02/02/2022 10:15

Covid brain and homeschooling very healthy kids hasn't enabled be to fully immerse and follow the discussion; I redact most of this:

They're watching what's happened to Rosie et al.

(All) refuse for career purposes.
