Red for PM.

IKeptYouLikeAnOath · 01/02/2022 20:02

You think women asking to have our rights makes us akin to climate change deniers?

IKeptYouLikeAnOath · 01/02/2022 20:02

Ironic as we're the ones who actually follow the science...

littlbrowndog · 01/02/2022 20:03

@SevenWaystoLeave

Participants wanted one issue to dominate and not permitting that is like the BBC giving equal weight to climate change deniers when the vast majority of scientists agreed climate change was serious. It's biased and it was wrong.

I don't think all participants wanted one issue to dominate. Honestly, from the outside, it looked more like a bunch of climate deniers who go to a climate change talk and won't stop shouting and heckling and interrupting until everyone else leaves out of annoyance and then they sit around and count who's left and claim that they're a majority.

Shouting heckling

We was asking reasonable questions.

About womens rights

RedToothBrush · 01/02/2022 20:05

Do a 'diversity' survey of MPs and see who in their households work, how many have children and who does the bulk of childcare and I bet you will get some interesting results. Which are highly unrepresentative of the population.

What we get statistics on so we can 'see' and what we don't record as statistics is always interesting. This often can reveal hidden biases that are built into the system.

There is no interest in Parliament being 'more representative'. Not really.

FOJN · 01/02/2022 20:08

I don't think all participants wanted one issue to dominate.

The webchat wasn't a secret. Questions could have been posted in advance. Those who felt one topic dominated they could have posted lots of questions beforehand to redress the balance. Why didn't they? Is it possible that this is a really big issue for women and we would like politicians to allay our concerns about women's rights being eroded? They fail to do so every time they have the opportunity.

FOJN · 01/02/2022 20:10

You think women asking to have our rights makes us akin to climate change deniers?

Why not, it makes a change from being compared to anti-semites and I'm sure lesbians are grateful for the change from "sexual racists".

bucketsoflove · 01/02/2022 20:12

My post was deleted too @DazzlePaintedBattlePants, not really sure why but if it makes us cool I won't argue Grin.

Feeling frustrated by that session but it has certainly got Twitter fired up. We must keep asking the questions, keep raising the issues. Women do not need to be kind and then be kinder. Women should voice their opinions and hold their boundaries. For ourselves, for our mothers and for our daughters.

Some people just don't think women should speak at all if they're not saying nice, kind things.

@Eve

I see that MimmyBirthingParent has reported Mumsnet to the police.

What gets me most about politics is sometimes the reasons why certain things are happening are blindingly obvious to anyone with half a brain cell.

Whats missing is the political will to do anything about it.

WaningMoon · 01/02/2022 20:50

That was very eye opening.

If you want to widen participation for women in parliament then you need to acknowledge the barriers that women face, which in no are in no way shape or form the same barriers which trans women face.

Squishmael · 01/02/2022 20:55

Depressingly predictable from the visitors. I loved all the wise, informed, passionate MNers though. Thank you for being here - you bloody brilliant women! 🥰💐

Theeyeballsinthesky · 01/02/2022 20:58

Imagine trying to discuss climate change without factually defining the words “climate” or “change”

Men are not women and do not need to be included in a conversation about how to get more women into politics

Actually laughed out loud at this.

Gender ideologists (the ones who don't believe in scientific facts, such as 'humans are a dimorphic species') have championed -

  • No debate
  • No platforming
  • Repetitive mantras, chanted in the face of all evidence and reason - TWAW, 'the most oppressed group, ever', 'TRANSPHOBE!', 'biological essentialists', 'you just want trans people to not exist'.
  • Activists shouting racist and misogynistic abuse at women attending peaceful meetings and banging on doors and windows in an attempt to intimidate those attending.
  • Masked students setting off smoke bombs on campus to force academics out of employment
  • Protesters screaming 'witch' into women peacefully protesting.

Essentially, the chilling effect.

But women asking for a question to be answered which will inform a conversation about women being encouraged into politics - beyond the pale.

It's ridiculous.

Hasselhoffsheadband · 01/02/2022 21:18

The reason this all attracts so much attention is because society is basically terrified of the idea of women getting together and discussing stuff that's not nappies and buggies. Their tiny minds simply cannot comprehend women having opinions on our own rights, when what we should be doing is focusing on 'being kind' and discussing the ways in which we can be 'allies' and support humans to those who are clearly more important than us.

The discussions that go on here are articulate, well reasoned and basically incredible difficult to argue. That is very scary to the people who never wanted women to wake up to their own erasure. And now they are basically screaming 'just shut the fuuuuuuuck uuuuuuup' because nothing else works. It's the same for JK Rowling, part of the reason that she attracts so much attention is that people that just cannot comprehend that a woman, even a female billionaire author, would have opinions that don't centre someone else and that she won't back down despite intimidation. People just don't get it!

Think of all the other forums that spout utter shite about everything, including transphobia. No one gives a shit about them. But Mumsnet.........

Helleofabore · 01/02/2022 21:37

count who's left and claim that they're a majority

I thought only those numpties who never read the fine print in the published survey results believed that those supporting males to get access to female single sex spaces were the ‘majority’.

Yet again we see another trans rights activist tactic.

No one reading the Yougov surveys could believe that the majority believe that males can be women when women’s sex based rights are concerned.

But please do crack on trying to minimise the number of people deeply concerned about the rights of women and children. And the number of women wanting to find political candidates that can define that word - woman.

GC feminist participants were in the majority on the thread the whole way through, so no.

Wims, we've made it to newsthump. (With a sneery lads-know-best fart of an article, but still).

You have such a way with words Arabella. Must be all the long vigils and clapping over the past few months!
Ereshkigalangcleg · 01/02/2022 21:44

Now that's a good analogy!

Justine has tweeted:

https://mobile.twitter.com/Justine_Roberts/status/1488578848350474242

"1/ Today Mumsnet had 28k+ posts on everything from Boris Johnson, ethical clothing, mental health, feeling invisible in your 40s, govn childcare top up scheme etc. Fewer than 1k were on sex and gender topic. MN has helped around 6000 women out of DV situation in last 3 yrs...
2/ Calling Mumsnet “radicalised” (and the torrent of misogyny it seems to have sparked on Twitter) is not particularly feminist..."

That article is a bit dumb as they are trying to take the piss out of both sides, but failing, apart from implying that women's sport shouldn't really be a priority for anyone at all, while acknowledging how stupid it would be to have men competing as women.

DoubleTweenQueen · 01/02/2022 22:08

@Waitwhat23 Very good summary. Thankyou.
