I had to google the author's name after following the link to her tweets. I was convinced that she would be a transwoman because I was so shocked at the vitriol directed at women standing up for their rights... :(

So much of the vitriol comes from supposed 'allies', rather than from trans people themselves. From what I can see there is a lot of diversity in opinion among trans people and many are very supportive of women and women's rights.

I’d rather be sane than popular.

A lot of identity-based social justice appears to be "allies" without the identity in question using it as a pretext to attack those they have animosity towards.

Wouldn't you sequester them on your board and deal with sporadic outbreaks when they escape to another area of MN from time to time?

It has reminded me that I've no sense of how Feminist Chat as opposed to this spot is doing. Is it full of interesting discussions that MNers couldn't initiative pre the split? Warming up? Attracting lots of new posters?

I don't visit often, Embarrassing. It seems quite quiet. I do miss a mix of topics, though.

Half the threads on the Chat board have clearly been posted on the wrong board, given the subject matter. The other threads can be mildly interesting but the vast majority of what is discussed is discussed on this board, in much more detail, throughout threads. I'm guessing that I'm not alone in seeing this board as the FWR board.

It's quite odd tho' because I feel FWR was effectively evicted from Chat and that we're supposed to stay away from it in order to let the MNers who were complaining about FWR have the space to start the threads that they were too scared or intimidated to initiate (if I recall the arguments for the split correctly).

So, I feel quite awkward about commenting there, definitely more so now that we've been denounced by NS as unpopular people that nobody wants. And I'm apprehensive that I'll say something that has the topic moved to the Mean Girls Corner (aka FWR).

I keep worrying that there'll be a request for a further subdivsion at some point, probably from some utterly principled soul like Barley or Margarita Cheezecake or whatever they're called, and we'll end up like the Judean Popular Front..

I'm saving you from yourselves. For animated gifs it's a faff. You need to find a gif of a reasonable size or the process takes forever.

You also need to find something with a .gif or similar file format, no mp4 formats.

So, you have to find a site with a gif of the right size and format, download it, and then upload it to MN (which can take forever ) and I recommend previewing to make sure it has loaded. It can easily take 5-10mins all in which is why I don't do it.

Plus, I really don't have decent gif game.

What was weird was that I wanted to post a female version of the common Welcome gif (L di Caprio with the glass of champagne). It was ludicrously difficult to find one that wasn't about kitten, pink, or general fluffiness.

I've no idea if popular gifs have a sex or gender dimension that I'd never noticed.
