After initially making an order that he be struck off, the Nursing and Midwifery Council accepted a last minute application for this to be changed to an 18-month suspension to give Mr Johnson time to appeal the decision
That's why I commented about the change Motorina. Of course, it may be poor reporting by the journalist
Terrible reporting. Or a reporter who doesn’t understand the process.
They’ve struck him off. That takes effect in 28 days, during which time he can appeal. If he appeals (which could take a year or more) the erasure wouldn’t kick in until after the appeal. So he could be working all that time.
So, after striking him off, they’ve then imposed an 18 month emergency suspension as well. That starts immediately, stopping him working for the 28 days between the hearing ending and the erasure taking effect. If he appeals, it means he will be suspended all that time it takes for the appeal to be heard.
It’s done as a seperate stage after the main decision and the journalist hasn’t understood what’s happened. But it’s not a late change of heart - only the high court (court of sessions if scotland) can change an erasure decision once it’s announced.
