Jennifer Swayne has been arrested on charges of vandalism, ‘hate crimes’ and public order offences. Police searched her house and removed several sheets of stickers.

She truly is being investigated as a terrorist would be.

We live in fucking terrifying times. Hating this. Loathing it. The world seems a really bloody awful place to be right now.

littlbrowndog · 25/01/2022 15:32

I know artichoke. It’s really awful

EdithStourton · 25/01/2022 15:58

Perhaps, having sent a copy of 'Trans' to every MP, the women of Britain should send one to every constabulary.

Seems they need it.

Rhannion · 25/01/2022 16:03

@fromorbit

I am thinking maybe we should organise a stickering demo in Newport and dare Gwent Police to arrest everyone.

Thus far the police will bully lone women activists, but when we get together they usually get scared.

They won’t have enough cells for all of us once we get started.
Rhannion · 25/01/2022 16:06

@barleybadminton

Here's an example of someone being arrested and prosecuted over just one sticker that she didn;t even put up, she was charged under joint enterprise laws: www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2015/oct/22/lawyers-criticise-decision-to-prosecute-housing-protester

Thankfully she was aquitted, but this is how the police treat political activists. They are not your friends and if you pick a fight with them you will get one.

Yes, the police will have a fight on their hands.

Don’t lose heart there are thousands and thousands of women and men pushing back.
averylongtimeago · 25/01/2022 16:11

I notice that a number of the sticker designs are now out of stock since I looked last night Smile

Sticker Woman is going to be very busy in the next few days.

GAHgamel · 25/01/2022 16:25

If she'd been denied her medication, can she really have been fit for interview, and if it does go to court does that have any bearing on whether they can use anything that she said then?

Thelnebriati · 25/01/2022 16:36

@KittenKong

Is it Jenni who had a book taken by the police in the search? One edited by Heather Brunskell-Evans on GC children? Or is this another women?
The police took a book that Jenn had written notes in. Presumably they took the book to see what she wrote; she is having her thinking investigated.

If anyone is interested, this may be the book.

endofthelinefinally · 25/01/2022 16:58

I will be buying that book. It looks like a very informative read.

Pthagonal · 25/01/2022 16:58

Not a clue how those stars got into the first two twatter handles, they should be @GPCCKelly and @GPDCCBlakeman.

endofthelinefinally · 25/01/2022 16:58

Maybe not from Waterstones though.

barleybadminton · 25/01/2022 16:59

Not likely, she seems to have admitted the offence (the criminal damage part) not just in her police interview but also all over social media, it's going to be pretty hard to switch that to a not guilty plea if it comes to court. The 'hate' element will come into play in sentencing, and she will be able to argue against any aggravated sentence at that point.
KittenKong · 25/01/2022 17:01

How can the even get to interview anyone at 1:30am? I’d be asleep face down on the desk. There’s no way anyone would get any sense lot of me at that hour. Or I’d be super hyper and running around the room doing a hummingbird impression.

I don’t do 1:30am

Datun · 25/01/2022 17:07

So let me get this straight, they have actually confiscated a book that she has annotated? Presumably highlighted bits and underlined certain passages.

And they have confiscated it?

Fucking A. This is horrific.

I know, a middle class white woman being treated exactly the same way any else would be in similar circumstances, it's appalling.

(the police routinely seize all kinds of crap in their investigations, she's lucky if she's still got her computer)

KittenKong · 25/01/2022 17:10

Yes. I’m sure that terrorists get better treatment.

OldCrone · 25/01/2022 17:10

The 'hate' element will come into play in sentencing

The hate crime categories are race, religion, disability, sexual orientation and 'transgender identity' (no idea where the last one comes from, because it's not one of the protected characteristics in the EA2010).

Her stickers are about male violence against women and men in women's prisons. How could any of them fall into those hate crime categories?

Datun · 25/01/2022 17:10

You still don't get it do you. Of course she admitted posting the posters. That's the whole bloody point. Christ this is like wading through custard.

She's an activist Barley.

Supporting women.

What it's NOT is hate.

What it's NOT is a proportionate police reaction.

This woman is going to have the support of women everywhere to highlight the disgusting treatment women are suffering at the hands of the police.

For standing up for their rights.

If anyone would like a more affordable book by Heather Brunskell-Evans, I've found this.

TheWeeDonkey · 25/01/2022 17:11

But Barley surely that would be hearsay? Is that admissible in a court of law when as pointed out a person has been interviewed in the middle of the night without access to necessary medication?

I'm not sure how drawing attention to MVAW is a hate crime, maybe you do? but then given the record of some Gwent Police officers maybe they do seen sunlight as a hate crime.

Datun · 25/01/2022 17:12

(the police routinely seize all kinds of crap in their investigations, she's lucky if she's still got her computer)

Don't be ridiculous. She stuck a sticker on a lamppost.

OldCrone · 25/01/2022 17:13

(the police routinely seize all kinds of crap in their investigations, she's lucky if she's still got her computer)

For flyposting? Isn't that normally dealt with via a fixed penalty notice from the council?
