Jennifer Swayne has been arrested on charges of vandalism, ‘hate crimes’ and public order offences. Police searched her house and removed several sheets of stickers.

You don't really understand the suffragette spirit, do you badminton?

Unsurprisingly.

I seem to remember there was a poster who said I had to condemn the suffragettes because I didn't approve of antifa.

PurgatoryOfPotholes · 24/01/2022 17:47

@Datun

How about it, Barley? Should this be a hate crime?

That reminds me of a poster who was accusing everyone of bi-phobia, left right and centre, for believing in soul mates.

Don't mention that one to me. That broke me. I just couldn't follow the chain of reasoning at all.
barleybadminton · 24/01/2022 17:48

Here's an example of someone being arrested and prosecuted over just one sticker that she didn;t even put up, she was charged under joint enterprise laws: www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2015/oct/22/lawyers-criticise-decision-to-prosecute-housing-protester

Thankfully she was aquitted, but this is how the police treat political activists. They are not your friends and if you pick a fight with them you will get one.

Totallydefeated · 24/01/2022 17:48

A FOIA request - or series of them to each police ‘service’ - should highlight how many people each force have fined or arrested or prosecuted for stickering.

Fwiw, my local police, the Met, don’t bother investigating burglaries, thefts, threats to kill, frauds of less than £100,000, attempted violent entry while householders are home and numerous other seemingly (to rational, sane people) more serious crimes.

I’d be very very surprised - and incredibly concerned and perplexed - if they were arresting men for applying stickers. It’d be illuminating to see if they’ve arrested any women....

Haha!

I can't even imagine the nonsensical meandering required to get to that!

Well, there's a good reason for that!

I would say that's a two way street Barely
MarshmallowSwede · 24/01/2022 17:55

The men’s rights activists are absolutely loving this!

They can kick holes thru women and get away with it, and if a woman puts a sticker up about DV… well she’s committed a hate crime.

Datun · 24/01/2022 17:56

This might come as a shock to you, but there are numerous women for whom that is entirely the whole point.

Huh, we have the same google settings. Those are the only two cases I could find, too!

So, you agree it's politically motivated abuse of power, and absolutely nothing to do with any concern that a lamp-post will stop working because of a sticker upon it.

Good. Now what are we going to do about it? Do I need to start reporting trans activist stickers? I was just treating them as expressions of free speech that other people were entitled to make.

PurgatoryOfPotholes · 24/01/2022 17:59

I do appreciate your kindhearted warning that she should not post those images on MN. I'd like to think it's because you object to politically-motivated prosecutions and you have only her welfare in mind

BeyondShrinks · 24/01/2022 18:02

Random thought - I have a sticker on my bin. Is that destruction of council property?

If you’ve recently stuck a little star sticker on a child for good work, is that now classed as attempted murder?

Asking for a friend.

Oooo you can buy bin stickers in shops like the range

Would that be classed as aiding and abetting 🤔

Whatthechicken · 24/01/2022 18:10

Goodness, no wonder they would like to silence women, so bloody dangerous with our stickers and haberdashery and extra large pockets full of sedition.

Thanks @Quetiapina, i hope you’re ok, on the positive side of events…I think a whole load of women found a bit more courage today.

Fucking hell. Those officers should have been sacked.

Mollyollydolly · 24/01/2022 18:17

Hope you are ok Quetiapina. The response on twitter is heartening. I hope people's support is helpful. Look after yourself and there are loads of women who I'm sure will offer support and advice. x

Omg I have given out hundreds and hundreds of "I've had my covid vaccine" stickers in the past year.

I've stuck them on people and everything. That's like literal assault by sticker. How many thousands of hate crimes can be taken into consideration I wonder?

Mollyollydolly · 24/01/2022 18:29

Fucking hell.

We almost never see a copper in these parts. Takes them hours to days to turn up after a burglary.

But STICKERS!

Might upset someone.

Never one to miss an opportunity to promote her flagging merchandise business.
