I’m sure even in the 14th century it wasn’t defined- and as for making someone transgender if they were to do a different “gender role”, it’s an insult to people who do consider their gender to be other than it is (whatever that means in relation to their sex, as opposed to gender).

I used an electric drill today and called someone "Love"

He's a Baptist minister at Bloomsbury Central Baptist Church as it clearly says on the Twitter clip. Nothing to do with the CofE or any other Anglican church.

Reminds me of the pro-trans woman on the Doctor Phil episode the other day who said something like "Sex and gender are different. Just because someone is born with certain chromosomes and anatomy doesn't mean they will like... you know... vacuuming."

Not unreasonable for OP to see a clip of someone talking a load of bollocks which clearly isn't compatible with Christianity and assume he's Anglican.

I was surprised when I realised he was Baptist, of all things- the only ones I know are evangelical and biblical literalists. I've emailed them this clip just to annoy them :-)

I didn’t listen to it but maybe Jesus was doing something that broke with tradition regarding who usually washes feet. I don’t know about it?
If you take the accounts to be accurate then he allowed woman to learn in the same manner as the men. He empowered a woman to be the first evangelist (the woman in the well) and these were clearly breaking traditional roles of the day.

My take on it was that he was showing God is both masculine and feminine - and traditional convention is not the same as what defines a man or a woman.

However, Jesus has been claimed to be most things to a lot of people to justify almost anything.

They've recently announced that the Lovers of Modena (skeletons) who were thought to be male and female, are both male. No one has suggested one was a trans woman - not yet anyway.

Jesus is performing a wholly symbolic expression of humility - the only trans is that this can be counted into the pattern of transgressions that led to His eventual execution.

This sort of ahistorical imposition* is… embarrassing. It is very difficult & unfortunate (to say the least) that some denominations utterly reject the very concept of being transgender. People of faith who are trans should not feel they have to choose one over the other; & it is lovely if there are congregations who actively seek to make trans members feel welcomed. Trying to do it by claiming Jesus is trans is surely only going to backfire though - & I’m sure most transgender Peoples Of The Book would be mortified at the combination of what many would consider a literally diabolical misinterpretation of Scripture & a quite glib & shallow conceptualisation of “transgendering”.

• (obviously in the case of Jesus I am using ahistorical more broadly ie “were this to have happened in this way at that time”; but leaving aside examination of question of Jesus’ divinity - or indeed existence, for those who consider the evidence for that inadequate)

In fact, applying same ahistorical approach but carrying to logical conclusion: if Jesus had been trans Barabbas & humanity as a whole would’ve been out of luck because Pilate would have freed Big J on grounds of being too vulnerable for crucifixion
