Thank You from the Lurkers

FWR (as I still think of it) is a very important corner of the Internet.

I read here almost daily, and the amount of information here is incredible - evidence, links to articles, tweets, feminist analysis, philosophical conversations, academic studies, court cases, judicial reviews, updates on previous cases... the list goes on and on. Personally it takes me time to keep up, let alone feel brave enough to comment

At this time of the year, especially, I just thought it would be nice to create a little thread to say thank you to all the regular contributers from the ones like me, who read but rarely post. Thanks for the information, the wisdom, the challenging discussions and all the lovely dinosaur names!

Hopefully some more lurkers will join me so I'm not left languishing on this thread alone!

Raises hand to salute. I don’t know whether to thank or curse this place - I was probably happier in blissful ignorance, but the truth can’t be denied.

Thanks for helping me join the dots between the social contagion that’s so obvious in schools, PSHE teaching, institutional capture and anime/porn fuelled internet culture. If I can protect my kids from these ghouls then the minor discomfort from having to challenge my ‘progressive’ politics is necessary and worthwhile.

I stand in support of the rights of women and girls to single-sex spaces, and fair treatment for those with gender dysphoria without compromising those rights.

I post occasionally but mainly lurk. This site has opened my eyes to the realities of domestic violence, and the lengths some women have to go to protect their children. Never fail to be impressed by the posters who regularly post helpful ,encouraging, sympathetic responses to people asking for help. Happy Christmas everyone.

Zero posts but intense lurking here. Thanks to all the well informed smart posters who keep me and those around me up to the mark on what we need to know. Joy to the world etc.

Can I add my thanks to all of those articulate, intelligent and thoughtful posters who are helping me understand and give me the information to be able to have sensible discussions about this topic. I lurk often ( hello to all of us 😊) and am very grateful to those who have the time and patience to repeatedly post the links to the information we need.

As a hitherto disinterested male, I've learnt a great deal from following these discussions. I admire the patience and rationality of the posters who are prepared to engage with with people who are rather less measured. It has been a great education to compare an contrast the tone and content of the postings here to those on Twitter and elsewhere.

I've been sufficiently inspired to engage with my employer about recently-adopted policies, questioned the deference given to several external organisations and have seen rectifications made. I'm currently pushing for the seniors to understand the implications of what they've signed up for.

This wouldn't have happened without your inspiration - so thanks!

Keep up your efforts - you probably don't know how many allies you have out there and also the positive effects that you're having.

Another de-lurker saying thank you. I don't even have an account and only got one to say thank you. I read every day what the clever and funny posters on this board have to say and appreciate your insight and knowledge. Though I'm not active on SM, I do more and more IRL and that is all down to you.

I know The Great Divide of the board caused some runctions, and a few regulars left. But for those of you who remain, please don't underestimate your reach or the extent to which you are making a difference. This is still a powerful forum for sharing knowledge and a reliable place to come for information. Thank you.

Yes, thanks to all those who have articulated what I was feeling… It has really made me question pretty much all my political thinking and to not assume the ‘be kind/liberal/progressive’ option should be jumped on without a great deal of rational thought…

Me too. Sorting out what I was brought up to think and what I actually think has been a strange but helpful exercise. All started here on FWR.

Thank you from another lurker/occasional poster for all the intelligent, well-informed and articulate contributions. Here is to more powerful sunlight and wins in2022.

Another rare poster and everyday reader/lurker here. Came for the breastfeeding/sleep advice in 2007 and have been reading on and off ever since.

Reading the fantastic posts on here gives me the confidence to articulate what I think on the rare occasions that I can talk about this in real life. Results have been varied!
