Judgement will be here on Monday, finally. It's been about 9 months since the appeal.

This was a good article by Sarah Phillimore if anyone needs a recap.

Me neither, it doesn't say anywhere in the guidelines that they aren't. I've seen a few cases where posts with archive links have been taken down temporarily while they check the link isn't going somewhere untoward, which I think is quite sensible. In fact I've reported that deleted post to ask about what guideline was broken and suggested they should clarify the guidelines. I assume the link was to the times piece? Did your post make that clear, ie that it wasn't obscure spam? Or maybe archive links are deemed to infringe copyright. Confused

I'm not expecting a quick reply as it's the holidays but hopefully one will be forthcoming in due course.

Thanks, Errol - I read the guidelines twice after deletion and thought I was missing something! My post didn’t specify that it was a link to the article - clearly it should have - it was deleted very quickly and I assumed someone would look at it. Your share token is better though Smile

I got a reply, quicker than expected- as I surmised, it's about copyright, which is fair enough. Proper journalism can't be done for nowt!

Sorry for the delay in responding. We don't automatically remove archived links but we tend to delete those which are essentially reproducing an article that's behind a paywall, for copyright reasons.

GiantKitten · 27/12/2021 21:38

But share tokens are ok? I know that’s not reproducing an article, but it’s still letting multiple non-subscribers read it for nothing.
It seems a very fine distinction!

I don't think so - that's using a mechanism explicitly provided by The Times for sharing articles. I think there's a limit on the number a subscriber can do, and some seem to be time limited.

Copyright was invented to protect content from being changed, not to protect the wallet or anything else of the author. Archiving doesn't pose a threat to the 'sanctity' of the original content, quite the opposite in fact. I've always felt that if you upload your content onto a public square as the internet is, them it's fair game to essentially screen shot it.

ErrolTheDragon · 28/12/2021 11:08

Maybe that's why it was invented, but that's not the extent of legal protection now.

"Honey Badger" has an obsession with Maria MacLachlan too.

Here trolling a Canadian site that happened to mention the attack at Speakers Corner (see delightful invective in the comments):

"STAND WITH WOMEN"

Then several mentions on Maria's site

"Fuck some TERFs up"

"Rattling the Honey Badger’s cage"

"Trans activist bullies who “didn’t watch” my video about them hated it"

@HazzaTheOwl - you must know about these already? I wondered if any of those grotesque messages that you posted screenshots of on Twitter had been sent to Maria?

Goodness knows how many socks that person has on Twitter, BTW. The story about the mate with a trans kid and an old man who's ex-army - that sounds awfully familiar.
