If a general election was called, who would you vote for?

Or really, who can I vote for? I don’t want to vote Tory, especially after today’s revelations. I also don’t feel happy voting Labour or Green, for reasons often discussed on this board. Is there a party you’d feel happy to vote to be in power if you had a chance to, say, tomorrow? Feeling pretty despondent

Labour.

Atla · 07/12/2021 23:59

I'm in NI so SDLP.
If I was on the mainland.... Lib dem is my 'natural' party but they pretty much imploded. Dunno. Not conservative.

WorkingItOutAsIGo · 08/12/2021 00:05

Am a Labour Party member but spoiled my ballot last time as cannot vote for a party that wants to damage women and girls. Clearly cannot vote for Boris’s Tory party. But some Tories get it about women’s rights. Literally don’t know what to do.

ISpyCobraKai · 08/12/2021 00:18

I'd spoil.
I'm in Scotland.

catzwhiskas · 08/12/2021 00:19

I would quite like to vote for the whistleblower at the Foreign office, who at least is a hard worker and has some ethics, unlike most of the actual politicians .

Enough4me · 08/12/2021 00:19

For people saying Labour, are you ignoring the part where they think women can be an idea in a man's head and not biological reality?

It's pushed me away from them, but I wish Rosie Duffield would lead them back to reality!

CheeseMmmm · 08/12/2021 00:27

I'd read up on the campaign stuff of female candidates for my preferred parties.

And Google. Maybe contact and ask views on sex/ gender.

If any were sensible vote for them.

Failing preferred parties would read up etc on other female candidates.

This is after all about constituency, one mp. And they are not all agreed etc with party line across the board.

Fact is that-
I'm in safe Tory seat been 40 years or more even.
Tories will get in unless labour make huge changes in loads of ways and they're enough to make them seem cohesive, sensible, trustworthy, etc and with wide appeal.
Given that pigs can't fly. Well. I mean they're a total disaster in almost every way I can think of and have been getting worse not better. They're fucked.

So given Tory win pretty dead cert. Vote for your constuency. If some look ok pick a woman!

(That's a blue touchpaper comment, the last bit, I know!).

Triphazards · 08/12/2021 00:29

I don't support them like a football team, but yeah Tory appears to be a party less mad than Labour, at the moment.

PermanentTemporary · 08/12/2021 00:30

In this constituency probably Lib Dem. Despite everything that's wrong with them. I would vote Labour if it wasn't handing a seat straight to Johnson.

sarah13xx · 08/12/2021 00:30

Come to Scotland and vote for wee Nicola 😊 still not an angel in my eyes but she’s a trier so she gets my vote

Tory

jeannie46 · 08/12/2021 00:41

Conservatives - never, brutal policies (v poor etc.) from millionaires if not billionaires!
Lib Dems - never again, barefaced bunch of liars. They have no shame.
Greens - wishy washy, no policies on lots of stuff.
Labour ( with a peg on my nose) because they are the only ones who can oust this immoral Government.
Communist Party of Britain - possibly if they stand here as they defend women.

EricCartmansUnderpants · 08/12/2021 00:46

Tory. Best out of a very shit bunch. It's not saying much.

TreborBore · 08/12/2021 00:55

If Tory is your idea of the best then you have extremely low standards.

NoNotMeNoSiree · 08/12/2021 01:10

@TreborBore

If Tory is your idea of the best then you have extremely low standards.
I was thinking just that too Smile Also maybe it's just me but if I was thinking everything Tory went against everything I believe in (Eg too right wing) but I agreed with them on one single topic, I'd be stopping and thinking about that a little bit?
Booklover3 · 08/12/2021 01:20

I feel quite politically homeless at the moment to be honest.

Highwind · 08/12/2021 01:24

Would vote Conservative.

Konyeshno · 08/12/2021 01:33

I'd go to hustings and ask candidates for their definition of the word woman. And then probably end up spoiling my ballot paper.
In 2019, despite knowing Labour had become an unelectable shitshow, I voted for my excellent female Labour MP. We've since moved to a neighbouring constituency who's sitting MP was a frontbencher under Blair. Loyalty to the candidate marginally won out over spoiling my ballot last time, this time there's no loyalty.

CheeseMmmm · 08/12/2021 01:37

Sorry for posting again on this point.

Please bear in mind it's not just/primarily/essentially a vote for the party. Yes of course it counts for that - majority MPs but there's more to consider.

It's firstly about your community, area etc.

And candidates are different when it comes to their personal priorities, opinions etc.

And of course their fundamental role is to work for their condtuents, all constituents. Sure some don't do much but many work hard for those they represent. Irrespective of which colour their rosette.

So please look at the blurb for your candidates. If strong fundamental political principles then obv not the no way ones.

But you know. Read the rest. What do THEY think? What's important to them about local area? If had chance, what things did they do when MP? Sqiz of voting record.

Google will surely reveal if have spoken about sex/ gender and what they think. Or indications of view.

And fact is. Unless something monumental happens. Tories will walk next election.

So focus on local or at least look at candidates when time comes. Rather than wasting a vote.

And yes contraversial. Ages ago on here someone said. Vote for a woman. (I mean unless Nadine d or similar!).
Yes check they aren't one of the women who has views that fuck women over.

In general though. Massively most of the time.

Women think about women, children. Sex offences, feeling safe on street, medical women things that are awful...

They are way more likely to care about women and girls than imo men in general full stop. Who even if lovely just don't have this stuff on their radar, in the picture, full stop.

When I first read that I thought bonkers idea.

Now I agree and have put my money where mouth is last few votes few years. (Without having only woman in my hard no party!).

BoudecaBains · 08/12/2021 01:41

Conservative. Angela Rayner and the hard left are the gift that just keeps on giving

XDownwiththissortofthingX · 08/12/2021 01:45

"hard left" Grin

Who are they then?

Booklover3 · 08/12/2021 01:47

Last local vote I had I literally just voted for all the women candidates

LovesBugs · 08/12/2021 02:04

**:49Twilight7777

I wouldn’t vote. If it was possible I’d do a protest vote

In a way you can by spoiling your paper, it says you want to vote but not for any of the candidates.

CheeseMmmm · 08/12/2021 02:19

@Booklover3

Last local vote I had I literally just voted for all the women candidates
Smile

Tbh it makes me feel like I'm saying something with my vote more than before.

And it feels strangely subversive Grin
