Whoopi Goldberg called a Terf on Twitter for saying men don’t get pregnant

Whoopi hosts a show called the View, and she’s as mad as hell about the challenges we are facing in the US with regard to abortion and Roe v Wade. She went OFF on the Supreme Court's oral arguments on Mississippi’s abortion law.

Whoopi said the following “Do any of you men have any eggs or the possibility of carrying a fetus? How dare you talk about what a fetus wants! You have no idea about pregnancy."

I too am sick of being told what to do with my body, by men. So I thought her comment was reasonable, concerning abortion and pregnancy.

This comment from Whoopi has been trending on Twitter as transphobic bigotry, by lots of blue ticks, and all and sundry, as apparently “many men can and do get pregnant”.

So now, women can’t even complain about restrictions being placed on our bodily autonomy without being called transphobic. I find it all quite a stretch.

Amazing how fast we've gone from ''allowing people to identify as the opposite sex is just a small administrative change that won't affect women in any way whatsoever'' to this.

DottyDoge · 05/12/2021 01:42

I looked and I’m not sure we should really play into it. I saw mainly conservatives like Kevin Sorbo mockingly suggest that Whoopi is transphobic.

Redshoeblueshoe · 05/12/2021 01:54

I saw Whoopi trending on Twitter on Friday. It made me sick. She was being kicked by the left and the right for basically saying women should be able to access abortion. The racist elements of the comments made me despair. I guess the bottom line is that the left hate her - because of the men'z, and the right hate her because of the MENS ! ! !

NoNotMeNoSiree · 05/12/2021 01:58

Love Whoopi, not seen any of this?
Your post isn't clear.
Was she talking about men in her posts or trans women?
We seem to be conflating two separate issues.
*Whoopi said the following “Do any of you men have any eggs or the possibility of carrying a fetus? How dare you talk about what a fetus wants! You have no idea about pregnancy
Agree with her there Men shouldn't get the say all on abortions/bodily autonomy.
Joint decision!

Redshoeblueshoe · 05/12/2021 02:02

Sorry nonotme I am referring to when she said men shouldn't get a say in abortions

KateInHappyland · 05/12/2021 02:04

100% with you, but it’s unfortunately not a popular or ‘socially acceptable’ stance.

Whoppi wasn’t being transphobic at all, imo. She was discussing the policing of womens’ bodies - by men. The same men who introduced the abortion law. She was not talking about trans folk.

KateInHappyland · 05/12/2021 02:04

*Whoopi, not Whoppi!

Exactly. The right for a woman to choose to have an abortion is being debated in the US, and somehow it can be twisted like this. The biological reality that only women get pregnant and may need the option of abortion, is now being debated as transphobic, just for using the word woman. Stark raving mad.

Of course she wasn't but in this twisted world drawing attention to the biological difference between men and women is bigotry and if that means not allowing women's biology to be discussed then so be it.
YetAnotherSpartacus · 05/12/2021 08:37

Just shows that we are fighting the same old battles whilst getting new shit thrown at us.

Shedmistress · 05/12/2021 08:46

I think this has been pointed out on here for years.

As soon as we lose the word 'woman' then this is what happens.

No, sorry it's not a joint decision. Not ever.
NoNotMeNoSiree · 05/12/2021 09:10

not ever
Very true.
Still doesn't sound like she was talking about trans people though so Hmm that people are conflating.

Yes, TAs are conflating, because in any argument they can only think 'what about MEEEEEEEEEEEEEE?!'

HTH.

Hate to break it to you but both of those groups are men.

She is getting kicked because she forgot about trans men, who are also women.

She was talking about sex not identity, and that's not allowed anymore.

Yea I remembered that

Seems like any woman who says something the rainbow groupthink doesn’t like is a T*

It's alarming to see this.

Gender identity ideology is like toxoplasmosis of the rational and self-declared intelligensia when it comes to this issue!

thirdfiddle · 05/12/2021 09:26

In a nutshell, this is how relabelling women as a gender category makes it impossible to fight for women's sex-based rights.

WorkingItOutAsIGo · 05/12/2021 09:27

But I think this is exactly the end goal of trans activism: if you destroy the notion of women as a separate sex class then you also destroy all ability to recognise sexism. Bingo, those jumped up women with their ideas of things like maternity pay or equal pay for equal work can sod off!

Lovelyricepudding · 05/12/2021 09:30

She is getting kicked because she forgot about trans men, who are also women.

No that is not it. Transmen may be the excuse but she is getting kicked for drawing attention to the fact men are not women.

KittenKong · 05/12/2021 09:37

No. I don’t think she is. Because no one seems to take them into consideration until one gets pregnant. It’s always about the tw.

NoNotMeNoSiree · 05/12/2021 09:51

I was on about posters on here.

It's hugely backfired.

What they are successfully proving is, regardless of the verbalising and obfusticating with language, the actions are wholly based on sex based thinking.

And it divides the world into two groups and follows a principle of heads the group born male wins, and tails, the group born female loses.

It's as sexist as hell and it's very successfully demonstrating why females need identification and protection in law. Because over and over again we now have the evidence; in mixed sex situations, male needs dominate and are met and are valued over and above negative impact and actual exclusion of female ones.
