Whoopi Goldberg called a Terf on Twitter for saying men don’t get pregnant

Whoopi hosts a show called the View, and she’s as mad as hell about the challenges we are facing in the US with regard to abortion and Roe v Wade. She went OFF on the Supreme Court's oral arguments on Mississippi’s abortion law.

Whoopi said the following “Do any of you men have any eggs or the possibility of carrying a fetus? How dare you talk about what a fetus wants! You have no idea about pregnancy."

I too am sick of being told what to do with my body, by men. So I thought her comment was reasonable, concerning abortion and pregnancy.

This comment from Whoopi has been trending on Twitter as transphobic bigotry, by lots of blue ticks, and all and sundry, as apparently “many men can and do get pregnant”.

So now, women can’t even complain about restrictions being placed on our bodily autonomy without being called transphobic. I find it all quite a stretch.

Love Whoopi, not seen any of this? Your post isn't clear. Was she talking about men in her posts or trans women? We seem to be conflating two separate issues. *Whoopi said the following “Do any of you men have any eggs or the possibility of carrying a fetus? How dare you talk about what a fetus wants! You have no idea about pregnancy Agree with her there Men shouldn't get the say all on abortions/bodily autonomy. Joint decision!
Sorry to go back a bit, I've just caught up.

This. This is the problem isn't it?

Men?
Transmen?
Transwomen?

Which men?

And it isn't women doing the conflation. As Whoopie has found out. Crapped on by the Holier Than Thous on all sides.

When many women here said stop pissing around with the language this will happen so very many other women accused us of being ridiculous.

And now the question is do you mean men or transwomen? FFS!

Transwomen are trans identified males and so are included in any mention of men. She didn't say anything about any kind of man. She said, and meant MEN!

And no. Not a joint decision. The final say always belongs to the 'would be birthing body' aka woman!

Interesting actually, after seeing Whoopi in concert a couple of years ago I'd have sworn she was fully TWAW. She did a q and a session after her talk, and the first question was from very clearly a TW who Whoopi made a lot of. I can't recall exactly what was said but it was very clear Whoopi wasn't going to take any criticism. I was one of the few who didn't clap.

Just goes to show, nothing else but total capitulation will do.

@Creadigol

Yes, trans men

Why on earth would a trans man want to do the most womanly thing imaginable?

Oh goodness you need to keep up with the times- plenty do. Start with Freddy McConnell.

No idea as I'm not trans. Why not ask somebody who is as doubt anyone on here can tell you?

These 2 articles might make clear what is going on.

It is commentators on the right who are making the accusations to highlight Goldberg's hypocrisy.

It's similar to posters on here who make the point that when it comes to wanting to use a surrogate no one seems to have any problem which sex is needed. Goldberg now apparently knows who can get pregnant and who can't. The right wing commentators are ridiculing Goldberg because she was previously TWAW TMAM. She's been hoist by her own petard.

I would not personally give Goldberg the time of day after her idiotic comments about Roman Polanski not being guilty of "rape- rape".

Was she talking about men in her posts or trans women
Well both those are men, neither can get pregnant and she was talking about womens rights to abortion.
Women are the ones that need a right to abortion. As early as possible, as late as necessary.

She was clearly talking about men and trans women ie human who possess xy chromosomes and have never possessed a womb or had the ability to produce ova.

She was also clearly referring to the need for those humans who have xx chromosomes, wombs and ova to have access to abortion. Goldberg described that category as "women" and declared "men can't get pregnant"

Unfortunately for Goldberg in the past she has been quite happy with the idea that some men are xx, have wonbs and ova and can get pregnant.

Yes, trans men

"No idea as I'm not trans.

I think she's using a rhetorical question to highlight absurdity.

Quite effectively IMO.

This is a previous tweet from one of the blue ticks calling Goldberg transphobic today. If you check his tweets, he is anti-abortion in general, and delighted to seize this opportunity.

I'm sure he is delighted. Why wouldn't he be?

He's being totally disingenuous but Goldberg handed this to him.

TheWeeDonkey · 05/12/2021 18:28

Well I guess if we waste our time talking about what is a man and what is a woman and how women who wish they were men can still get pregnant, then we don't have to talk about abortion laws and rights.

A win for some but not for women.

houseonthehill · 05/12/2021 22:26

I think this might well become the ultimate tripwire. Essentially, abortion no longer being a Women's Rights issue.

"This is a fundamental attack on Women's Rights!"
"Not just Women's Rights."

DoYouSeaWhatISea · 05/12/2021 22:54

I never thought the day would come when the right for an abortion was not a women’s issue.

It's not "many" men anyway. The numbers are tiny: "According to figures compiled by Medicare for Australia, one of the few national surveys as of 2020, 75 male-identified people gave birth naturally or via C-section in the country in 2016, and 40 in 2017".
