Whoopi Goldberg called a Terf on Twitter for saying men don’t get pregnant

Whoopi hosts a show called the View, and she’s as mad as hell about the challenges we are facing in the US with regard to abortion and Roe v Wade. She went OFF on the Supreme Court's oral arguments on Mississippi’s abortion law.

Whoopi said the following “Do any of you men have any eggs or the possibility of carrying a fetus? How dare you talk about what a fetus wants! You have no idea about pregnancy."

I too am sick of being told what to do with my body, by men. So I thought her comment was reasonable, concerning abortion and pregnancy.

This comment from Whoopi has been trending on Twitter as transphobic bigotry, by lots of blue ticks, and all and sundry, as apparently “many men can and do get pregnant”.

So now, women can’t even complain about restrictions being placed on our bodily autonomy without being called transphobic. I find it all quite a stretch.

@NoNotMeNoSiree

not ever Very true. Still doesn't sound like she was talking about trans people though so Hmm that people are conflating.
If you subscribe to 'Transwomen are women' then any statement mentioning 'women' also de facto includes transwomen.

Which is why it's considered transphobic to use the word 'woman' in relation to biological sex.

Which means we can no longer discuss issues pertaining to biological sex, because as demonstrated perfectly here, the issue immediately gets sidetracked into 'Whoopi is transphobic' rather than sticking with the main point, which is the US' shocking slide backwards into the state controlling women's bodies and choices.

I mean, it's a total gift to misogynists. What a perfect way to kill feminism. Claim that feminism includes males and that one cannot use the word 'woman' and feminism becomes impossible.

Eyesofdisarray · 05/12/2021 10:13

It's what misogynists have wanted for years! It's a gift for them with others gift wrapping it for them

OhHolyJesus · 05/12/2021 10:18

Talking about women and only women offends people who think that males can be women, just that very idea is 'exclusionary' and so I'm not surprised it resulted in rounding up and piling onto Whoopi. We cannot talk about women and women's bodies without talking about men too. That's where all the 'menustrators' and 'cervix havers' have got us. (Thanks very much LibFems and TWAW believers/followers.)

The View has covered trans people in the military before. Whoopi was not part of this segment and it's worth watching I think, up til the question asked around 6m in. I think the exchange of looks and facial expressions is telling.

The View is a mix of hard-hitting political news and human interest stories and I think an all female presenter panel would suggest it maintains a feminist perspective. I would argue that this was lacking here at least.

BraveBananaBadge · 05/12/2021 10:37

I haven't caught up with this properly yet. Really hoping she sticks to her guns on this and doesn't have to get herself 'educated'. I imagine she's not one to be bullied and she's thinking clearly on this, but in the States you never know.

LadyCampanulaTottington · 05/12/2021 10:41

Joint decision?!

Is it fuck!!!! No man gets to have half a say about my body or my uterus. The father of the baby I want to abort? Does he fuck get to say whether I am to go through with the pregnancy or not. MY BODY MY CHOICE.

FUCK THAT

Ereshkigalangcleg · 05/12/2021 10:42

Was she talking about men in her posts or trans women?
We seem to be conflating two separate issues.
*Whoopi said the following “Do any of you men have any eggs or the possibility of carrying a fetus? How dare you talk about what a fetus wants! You have no idea about pregnancy

You can of course point to all the MTF trans people who have any eggs or the possibility of carrying a foetus.

NoNotMeNoSiree · 05/12/2021 10:50

And I've already said very true if anyone bothered to read my next comment
Cuck00soup · 05/12/2021 11:03

@Thelnebriati

Amazing how fast we've gone from ''allowing people to identify as the opposite sex is just a small administrative change that won't affect women in any way whatsoever'' to this.

Ain't it just.

NotMeekNotObedient · 05/12/2021 11:04

@thirdfiddle

In a nutshell, this is how relabelling women as a gender category makes it impossible to fight for women's sex-based rights.
@thirdfiddle has summed it up perfectly Star
Ereshkigalangcleg · 05/12/2021 11:10

And I've already said very true if anyone bothered to read my next comment

Then why did you say "joint decision" at all? Confused you can hardly blame people for thinking that was your position.

OhWhyNot · 05/12/2021 11:20

Of course she was being transphobic in the social media universe

Where men can have periods and babies

And women can have a penis

Back in the real world where biological facts still matter she wasn’t

How has social media opinions been allowed to make such an impact on society

Shedmistress · 05/12/2021 11:23

Agree with her there. Men shouldn't get the say all on abortions/bodily autonomy. Joint decision!

Where I think you are missing the point, men onlt get a say before they ejaculate their sperm into someone's vagina. Once they have released said sperm, it is no longer their decision.

If they didn't want to become a father they should ensure that their sperm does not meet someone's egg.

SweetGrapes · 05/12/2021 11:37

@Lovelyricepudding

She is getting kicked because she forgot about trans men, who are also women.

No that is not it. Transmen may be the excuse but she is getting kicked for drawing attention to the fact men are not women.

Exactly. The TRA don't really care about trans men - untill they can use them as a stick to beat women with.
SweetGrapes · 05/12/2021 11:40

This is where 'be kind' takes us. It's a one way street --> kindness towards the ejaculators.

KittenKong · 05/12/2021 11:56

As DP muttered the other day ‘the ones demanding ‘be kind’ are the ones who never are’

BlueberryCheezecake · 05/12/2021 12:00

@DottyDoge

I looked and I’m not sure we should really play into it. I saw mainly conservatives like Kevin Sorbo mockingly suggest that Whoopi is transphobic.
Yeah I've checked out the hashtag and it's basically entirely right wing commentators/GCs trying to make this happen.
RepentMotherfucker · 05/12/2021 13:37

Yeah I've checked out the hashtag and it's basically entirely right wing commentators/GCs trying to make this happen.

Sure it is. Stonewall never told anyone to take words like 'mother' out of their policies and TAs never piled on anyone for talking about menstruating women. Ever.

The batshittery never happened. But if it did then you are the meanies because You. Are. Making. Us. Look. Bad. By. Drawing. Attention. To. It.

DecayedStrumpet · 05/12/2021 14:13

Ah, great, BlueberryCheezecake so you have no problem with her comment?

“Do any of you men have any eggs or the possibility of carrying a fetus? How dare you talk about what a fetus wants! You have no idea about pregnancy."

AtomHeartMotherOfGod · 05/12/2021 14:28

“many men can and do get pregnant”

Eh?

Ohhh... I've read on. I think I understand correctly that the above refers to men that were once women yes? Fair enough. But no person born XY has managed to get pregnant have they?

Madness anyway. I stand by you Whoopi.

Fet2021duejuly2022 · 05/12/2021 14:30

If it wasn’t for Twitter we probably wouldn't have all this silly nonsense.

Yes, trans men.

I'm 98% sure she will be along to apologise and says she remains an ally blah blah and she will do better blah blah in 5...4...3...

But I would love to be proved wrong for once.

Creadigol · 05/12/2021 14:49

Yes, trans men

Why on earth would a trans man want to do the most womanly thing imaginable?

MalagaNights · 05/12/2021 14:50

Well this is gold for the right wing in the USA.

It just illustrates for them the irrationality & hypocrisy of the left who can't define women yet who want to protect this indefinable groups rights to abortion.

How can you not define a group yet claim to base your policy on protecting them? You can't.

So they're having fun at Whoopis expense with that. She's just a proxy/ representative leftist.

The right can and will define women, but don't view their rights as the only issue in abortion.

It's a topsy turvy world.

dapsnotplimsolls · 05/12/2021 14:52

Is she referring to all men or the male members of the Supreme Court? Any transmen on the Supreme Court? Nope, didn't think so ...
