Another doctor threatening “transphobes”

Following the Harrop tribunal, I can’t quite believe another doctor on social media is threatening members of the public under the claim they are “transphobes”.

She was so pleased with her comment (insinuating a “transphobe” should get into a bath with a toaster - killing themselves) that she screenshotted it from one social media platform, reposted it on another and added the comment “get it” to make sure people got her ‘clever’ insinuation.

Honestly I'm very against people being labelled transphobe at every opportunity and think Harrop was appalling but if someone leaves a glib comment about identifying as a toaster I don't see why someone can't respond in a cheeky/flippant way. It's not like the first person was trying to engage in debate or ask questions or raise concerns. They're just making fun of peoples feelings on the matter and it's meant as an insult. I'm definitely gc and might be called a terf but really can't get worked up about this

MrsJamin · 04/12/2021 06:50

She comes over as so immature in her Instagram. I'm not sure she takes it seriously that she's a doctor talking on social media. I can't get that worked up about her either but if she gets a lot of TRA love she may do more of this kind of content.

Monicuddle · 04/12/2021 06:52

I am wary of any health professional who makes themselves public on social media at all. It demonstrates a certain amount of recklessness just to have an online presence on Twitter where anything you have ever said can and will be picked apart for all eternity.

donquixotedelamancha · 04/12/2021 06:56

She's a comedian, it was supposed to be a joke.

She seems desperate for attention and painfully unfunny but I don't see any of Harrop's toxicity.

DryHeave · 04/12/2021 06:58

She’s a doctor. They have standards of behaviour that need to be upheld. If she wants to be a comedian she can follow the likes of Harry Hill and Adam Kay.

Hmm I am seeing this frequently on posts along with some reason why we shouldn't be upset - they are only joking about killing yourself, they are only laces so you shouldn't get worked up about being forced to wear a political symbol, is only a club for children (to talk about sex)....

Absolutely agree. 'They were only joking' is an old excuse for abusive behaviour.
SuperSange · 04/12/2021 07:14

Is she stating that she's a doctor, or do you just happen to know that? Harrop had it in his handle, but she doesn't.

DryHeave · 04/12/2021 07:16

She does indeed.

I hate the use of transphobe - it's ridiculous - I and anyone else can have concerns about something without being phobic.

Yet everyone panders to it - I'm not phobic about anything (though I struggle to deal with dead mice) why would anyone be phobic about transgender people - I'm not going to have a screaming panic if one crosses my path anymore than I would if an eg blind person crossed my path, or a black cat come to that.

Monicuddle · 04/12/2021 07:18

Quick google she/her is an A & E doctor. Hopefully not in a hospital near me.

Mummyoflittledragon · 04/12/2021 07:21

Agreed op. She is very young.

Lovelyricepudding · 04/12/2021 07:24

why would anyone be phobic about transgender people

Because they represent an ideology that is destroying women's rights, that threaten women with impunity, that has captured our democratic organisation's with an authoritarian and oppressive regime, that is seeking to force us to state things we know are a lie, that is causing huge medical harm to children, that is removing women's right to define ourselves, that is removing sex from data that shows where we are harmed....

YourenutsmiLord · 04/12/2021 07:31

Sorry, I still think it makes us 'the transphobes' the bad guys in ordinary people's eyes.
I'm not a transphobe I'm an 'equality for all' person.
You don't trample on one groups' rights eg womens' for the benefits of another. So I'm a womens' rights and equality supporter.

DialSquare · 04/12/2021 07:36

I would have responded that I only identify as a toaster on non bath days. A bit like Pip Bunce.

Roystonv · 04/12/2021 07:37

I think yournuts was making the point that saying people have a 'phobia' about transpeople is the wrong use of a medical term. We are not against them irrationally as a group but hate what their actions are doing to AHF. Way too late to be changed and hey it suits them to use it. Could be totally wrong in my interpretation! However 're the dr; yes extremely inappropriate/unbelievable bearing in mind the Harrop case, childish for a qualified Dr and against her professional guidelines.

LynetteScavo · 04/12/2021 07:40

I very much hope she's a better doctor than she is a comedian. Like a previous poster says, she comes across as very immature. I imagine she'd appeal to young teens though Hmm

Roystonv · 04/12/2021 07:43

Have read yournuts reply, me too. How can a very small % of people get all this attention and be kind when we should be caring for human beings as a whole first. Only when when all human beings are safe, housed, educated, treated medically, fed etc can we spare time and money for such as them

Yes I have noticed this too.
theriverrunsthrough · 04/12/2021 07:52

She has to maintain a level of trust with in the profession.

This comment breaches that. I hope she has been reported enough times to bring awareness to it

SwumMum · 04/12/2021 07:58

The pile ons in the comments to people with very reasonable GC pov are worrying.

Whatwouldscullydo · 04/12/2021 08:04

Ffs.

Shes a dr . Thefore she will treat the nicest people you will ever meet along side rapists, murderes, pervs etc whoever walks or gets walked by the authorities thru the hospital doors.

Her job is to treat. With dignity respect and to the best of her ability. Regardless of personal views and opinions .

The police/legal system us there to prosecute and implosion and make thise judgments. Not hers.

Amd she certainly shouldn't be using her twitter or Instagram account to sir personal opinions about the peope she may or may not see.

Shes a dr she doesn't get to decide who should electrocute themselves in the bath because she disagrees with them

Babdoc · 04/12/2021 08:07

As a retired doctor, I am disgusted with the likes of Harrop and this A and E trainee.
Twitter wasn't available to my generation, but we were all taught to maintain professional standards in public. And we all took an oath to "first do no harm".

Chickenyhead · 04/12/2021 08:11

120k followers isn't to be sniffed at.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 04/12/2021 08:19

It is inappropriate but it’s not ‘threatening’, either literally or by insinuation, and by calling it that I think you are diminishing what Harrop did with the golf comments (which hinted at actual physical violence by involving someone who had actually assaulted someone with golf clubs) and the ‘delete your social media or else’ stuff (which was very much a literal threat).
Nobody could possibly take this off colour joke to mean that she is going to come round and electrocute the person who made the toaster joke.
I am gender critical but I think precision in language is important.
