Just a heads up if anyone is interested. Includes Profs. Jo Phoenix and Rosa Freedman.

Just watched it on ALL4.

Very cleverly done, aimed at a "naive" audience, following the "show, don't tell" principle.

The proof of the pudding is that some PP watched this with family members who have failed to "get it" before, ie. when they were "told", but do "get it" now that they have seen it with their own eyes.

Pina, thank you! Will watch when I get a chance.
@SoniaFouler, that would be very interesting if you would watch again and compare.
I’m not going to be able to watch it for a couple of weeks, although I will, when I can, but I’m more interested in the views of @43leftfeet and @RepentBirthingPersonFucker who said the programme came across to them as “both sides” becsuse from my recollection as said, it was only one single narrated line by Richard Bacon after interviewing a transwoman and also said by the transwoman he was interviewing. I didn’t see any “both sides” argument outside of that - the “both sides” single line made from RB jumped out at me especially because I thought at the time of the original broadcast how could you say that when you’ve just shown footage of Jo speaking calmly about child exploitation abuse and then followed it up immediately with footage of a TRA shouting DIE, YOU CUNTS, how is that comparable? So that’s what led me to wonder whether it has since been edited. Sorry for tagging you both, but I’m genuinely curious whether the programme might have been edited enough to say the whole programme came across as “both sides are toxic” or whether I’m misremembering or whether that one line was taken as an imbalance of how the whole programme was portrayed.

^^ that post is jumbled sorry, hopefully it makes sense?

I thought this was a good overview and Richard Bacon a good host overall. My partner commented how violent the TRAs were and they have only heard about this through my pov previously.

43leftfeet · 08/12/2021 23:08

SoniaFouler it was partly giving the TRA the last word in that section, but mostly that line from RB. I found it infuriating given what had just been shown.

It's encouraging to hear that "neutral" people could see how not at all one sided it is.
