Penn’s Lia Thomas breaks 200/500 Free records in meet with Princeton, Cornell

USA women’s freestyle swimming records were broken this weekend!!!

To all those who keep using the ‘scale’ argument to justify inclusion of males in female sport, tell us again how it takes more than one male competing in female sport to significantly and negatively impact that sport?

I am very happy to hear your well thought out and evidenced reasoning.

swimswam.com/penns-lia-thomas-breaks-200-500-free-records-in-meet-with-princeton-cornell/

Penn’s Lia Thomas blasted the number one 200 free time and the second-fastest 500 free time in the nation on Saturday, breaking Penn program records in both events. She swept the 100-200-500 free individual events and contributed to the first-place 400 free relay in a tri-meet against Princeton and Cornell in her home pool.

Sounds wonderful until you realise that for their first three years competing in the competition, they competed as a male.

Coach Linda Blade’s tweet says :

Well of course women’s records are being smashed!

Lia competed as male for first three years in #NCAA.

This is not right!

We need to return to #SexBasedSports!

#SexNotGender to preserve fairness for female athletes.

It absolutely read like a teenager wrote it. Draper is a South African Australian (well born in South Africa and moved to States after living in Australia). I think they graduate next year. So, that could make them just 20 now depending on the age they started school. Obviously they could be older.

Either way, they are definitely focused on making everyone out who doesn’t agree with them as ‘mean’! So, however old they are, they are immature.

OP posts:
CheeseMmmm · 13/01/2022 00:39

Do you mean prepuberty? Or same age?

Unless science study will be same age. So result not surprising.

CheeseMmmm · 13/01/2022 00:52

**huge point not seen answered by gender > sex supporters.

IF there's no physical advantage penis people over ovary people in sport. Right down to school age, through 20s 40s 60s etc, at any level. From newbies taking it up, once a week club/gym etc, to elite athletes.

Then why exactly are people who are born with... Erm.

Whatever list I need to write to include everyone in the group?

The group (4 billion ish in number) who are the ones,
who when born,
are observed to be,
the type of human that are assumed to be able to gestate once physically mature, but not beyond the point they have definitely completed the process of menopause.

...

CheeseMmmm · 13/01/2022 01:01

If there's no physical advantage I REALLY want to know why as a group the second sort of human are unable to defend themselves from the other sort.

In short.

How come we are so massively-

Raped, beaten up /violated by those of the first group? Why is rape as a weapon of war a thing? Why are these things and others similar, so terribly common?

Really.. need to know this tbh.

The social impact on first group of shifting social attitude to physically no differences in power strength speed etc. Oh and at same time going on about wallowing in victimhood, also crime is a people thing. Not fair to segment statistically to see patterns.

Then... That's cool? Because it's true no difference?

Wanted to share that finally a mainstream (considered more leftist) newspaper has finally covered the Lia Thomas issue. Over 6,300 comments (a crazy high amount)- almost all in support of women having sex-separated competitions in sports. If our media can't see this ratio - WaPo readers are pretty leftist - then they are willfully blind.

www.washingtonpost.com/sports/2022/01/10/lia-thomas-penn-transgender-swimmer/

highame · 13/01/2022 07:50

Good to hear Delphinium. Maybe they will follow the ToL, starts with one, once in a while and then suddenly plenty and now we expect to see a piece when something breaks. Good feeling, but they are, after all, businesses

Needmoresleep · 13/01/2022 08:25

The Washington Post has been owned by Jeff Bezos of Amazon for the past decade. I doubt this article was allowed through without active approval at senior levels. The WP business strategy is to use the internet to expand its readership beyond the Washington area, nationally and internationally. Perhaps they realise that east coast wokism limits their market. The comments, hopefully, will help.

(It is generally less irritating and anti British than the NYT, and their subscription deals can be very cheap.)

NecessaryScene · 14/01/2022 10:27

Two-part Washington Examiner interview with an anonymous swimmer on the team:

Exclusive interview with Penn swimmer: ‘The NCAA just does not care about us at all’

Transgender Penn swimmer breaks team rules, compares self to Jackie Robinson

Apparently Thomas is prepared to be invalidated if there's a free meal involved:

Another example was during a formal dinner held for members of the school’s team. There are separate dinners for the female and male teams. A swimmer is supposed to attend only one of the dinners, as they are financed by alumni. But Lia Thomas allegedly did not think that applied to her.

“When she first announced she was transgender and was still on the men’s team, she went to both the men’s and women’s swimming team dinners on our training trip," said the swimmer.

Shock (Okay, not really shocked - it sums it all up, really.)

Bumping this to see if any of our usual scolding visitors can explain how this is fair or in anyway benefits women

TurquoiseBaubles · 15/01/2022 13:17

This is an article posted on that Coach Blade thread that I hadn't seen before. I'm posting it here so I can find it later.

Still waiting. Funny how they avoid the difficult threads....

The Daily Wire quotes witnesses to Henig's win

"Lia wasn't trying".

Henig and Thomas are apparently friends.

Thank you so much for this!

RVN123 · 21/01/2022 06:57

What a shit show.

So TMAM except when they decide to be woman for the purposes of personal gain (or to gestate a child and give birth and then argue they are not mothers).
TWAW except when they decide to be men for the purposes of personal gain (Eddie Izzard etc).

The dysphoria is SO GREAT and troubling and literally life or death, but hang on, I might get a medal here so I'll just ignore it for now.

You can't have it both ways! Either you are TW or TM, you can't bob in and out of both categories.
Actually, scrap that - maybe that will be the next thing! Non-binary peeps will just decide on any given day what they 'feelz' like and then can compete in that category. Why not? It makes about as much sense as any of this utter bollocks.
If Lia and Henig conspired to obtain this result then they should be banned for life. Utter piss takers.

Helleofabore · 21/01/2022 09:57

Just adding this article about Jenner’s comments.

Nothing new, but the Mail is getting a great deal of easy content about this particular issue. They add something new regularly.

Yes. I don't like lots of trolls and stirrers getting mileage out of this but hell, it's indefensible.

TurquoiseBaubles · 23/01/2022 12:14

I see Lia is still winning, but being much more careful not to win by too much Hmm

And here is another article - it's interesting that only the Daily Mail seems to be following this.

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-10427265/Parent-UPenn-swimmer-says-daughter-angry-lost-spots-races-Lia-Thomas.html

I feel so sorry for those girls - losing out on places, but also being effectively gagged. This should be the best time of their lives and instead it's become like being in an abusive relationship Sad

Helleofabore · 23/01/2022 12:42

So, not swimming to the same form as before Christmas.

I am sure that no one, least of all USA swimming is convinced of their current times. That horse has already bolted.

Yet another detailed report from the Mail. And the comments are cheering. Hopefully they're not going to let this go. We need women's sports to be protected from male cheats.
Sophoclesthefox · 23/01/2022 18:23

I’m encouraged by how much the tone and amount of exposure has changed since the Yarwood/Miller debacle.

More mainstream coverage, more clarity over what is happening and how devastating it is for women and girls.

The tide is turning. Fairness and integrity will prevail. I hope they do so before many more girls have their dreams and records shattered by mediocre dishonest males.

PermanentTemporary · 23/01/2022 19:36

Non-elite transwomen are women?

Reminds me of the UK exemption on GRCs affecting inheritance of titles.

TurquoiseBaubles · 23/01/2022 19:54

Now the coaches association has come up with a unique idea. Allow one extra space in each race (I'm not sure how that works in an 8 lane pool, but however).

www.washingtontimes.com/news/2022/jan/23/coaches-association-urges-ncaa-open-extra-spot-lia/

They recognise it's unfair.

TurquoiseBaubles · 23/01/2022 19:57

And here's another article. It's spreading, as it the hashtag #penncheats on twitter.

www.washingtonexaminer.com/opinion/women-are-now-third-class-citizens-says-penn-swimmer-in-exclusive-interview

I don't know what side of the political divide in the US the Washington Examiner is, but I can guess by the use/non-use of pronouns!

Sorry as I am for all the girls competing in collegiate swim teams at the moment, it seems to me that we really need more of this. We need good trans athletes, not just really poor, aging ones, in order for people to see what including TWAW in sports means.
