Women’s equality party

Any opinions on the women’s equality party.
I like a lot of their idea but I’m unsure about their stance on gender identity issues.
They’re asking the police and government to do more about violence against women and girls. I’m confused about how there an be any policies or action to protect women and girls from violence if you can’t define who are women and girls.

Any thoughts

They messed up big time.
The end.

RedDogsBeg · 25/11/2021 17:08

Their stance on gender identity issues is pure Stonewall, they are an utter waste of space.

Abhannmor · 25/11/2021 17:17

They accepted Stonewall's position quite early on I think. Shame really because the name recognition would be handy for a party that cared about women.

Thelnebriati · 25/11/2021 17:18

Look into their treatment of Heather Brunskell Evans (there are a number of threads about this);

No. Just no. Don't go there.

TurquoiseBaubles · 25/11/2021 17:25

Full of Very Important Men. So disappointed in Sandy Toksvig.

Disfordarkchocolate · 25/11/2021 17:26

They should have been my party of choice. However, they have been Stonewalled.

Whatinthelord · 25/11/2021 17:27

Thanks. I sadly thought this might be the case.

I don’t understand how no one can question how impossible it would be for the government to put in place policies to benefit or protect women if you can define who women are. Like how could you make legislation or guidance or anything.

All I kept reading is that they are “intersectional” but with no further explanation of how that works in reality.

Thanks I’ll take a look

Their definition of a woman and mine are very different as they have been fully Stonewalled.

Such a huge missed opportunity.

43leftfeet · 25/11/2021 17:28

WEP have a sex based rights caucus, so there is dissention in the ranks.

Their website is here, I imagine they'd be great to talk to to get an idea of what's going on with WEP.

They had one job

Mochudubh · 25/11/2021 17:52

I'm seriously considering voting communist next election. They seem to be the only party explicitly stating they support women's sex based rights.

Whatinthelord · 25/11/2021 18:10

I struggle to understand how you can acknowledge women being subject to violence from males as an issue….with recognising a need for feminism to centre female needs.

This plus the information pp gave has all you need to know, OP.

The Big Lie - how the WEP was always about gender rather than sex www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/4058470-the-big-lie-how-the-wep-was-always-about-gender-rather-than-sex

@Unsureschool

They had one job
This.
MassiveHoard · 25/11/2021 19:34

When I joined I wasn't really aware of the whole issue. I left when i realised their definition of women includes biological males. That's not equality, that's males asserting their dominance over womens sex based rights, safety and dignity.

saleorbouy · 25/11/2021 19:48

Sounds like a great political party to exclude 50% of the population. That's equality, hurrah for a men's party!

RedDogsBeg · 25/11/2021 19:54

I think they came on MN for a webchat, as far as I remember it didn't go well for them.

MissLucyEyelesbarrow · 25/11/2021 20:27

@Unsureschool

They had one job
Seconded.
McDuffy · 25/11/2021 20:36

Same as MassiveHoard, joined and then left. Shame as I live in a constituency that they field candidates Sad

Helleofabore · 25/11/2021 21:02

They also came last year to encourage us to join a campaign for women caught homeschooling and balancing jobs during covid. The person posting the campaign did not want to discuss the wider policies and left when asked about actual real impact actions such as what they present/campaign for in parliamentary committees about self id and women’s rights.

girafferafferaffe · 25/11/2021 21:05

Massively disappointed in Sandy Toksvig.

AnotherMansCause · 25/11/2021 21:12

There is a WEP candidate in my constituency. I can't bring myself to vote for them, as they don't seem to know what a woman is.

PlayYouLikeAShark · 25/11/2021 21:20

The WEP are an undemocratic org who sat on & then ditched the outcome of consultation with members over self ID vs supporting single sex spaces.

They're nothing more than a convenient vanity project that goes out of their way to compound the undermining of women's rights.

They're nowt more than 🍆🐼rers.
