Women’s equality party

Any opinions on the women’s equality party.
I like a lot of their idea but I’m unsure about their stance on gender identity issues.
They’re asking the police and government to do more about violence against women and girls. I’m confused about how there an be any policies or action to protect women and girls from violence if you can’t define who are women and girls.

Any thoughts

They are hopeless just don't go there.

Fully TWAW.

And if you look at their focus it's very narrow indeed and very skewed towards women are are successful / ambitious when it comes to work.

'Equality for women isn't a women's issue. When women fulfill their potential, everyone benefits. Equality means better politics, a more vibrant economy, a workforce that draws on the talents of the whole population and a society at ease with itself.'

No thanks. Yes opportunity is important. But... Erm. That's pretty much it?

Front page site headline where got that.

Most of their funding these days is from a Google* tech bro with a trans kid

*I’m pretty sure donor works at Google, it’s definitely one of the big tech companies

They had a consultation to decide what a woman is. Really.

Let that sink in.

And haven’t they abandoned that consultation? Or at least decided not to publish the findings!
Manderleyagain · 26/11/2021 09:03

The consultation itself was good, if rather drawn out in time.

www.google.com/amp/s/amp.theguardian.com/society/2020/sep/17/womens-equality-party-runs-consultation-on-self-identification-for-trans-people

I thought it might be a good model for organisations being torn apart by these differences. Alice sullivan, Jane clare Jones and others spoke to the citizens assembly on the potential consequences of replacing sex with gi in law & policy. It was supposed to move on to a consultation of the whole membership. But instead they emailed some research findings from the assembly to all members, and mandu reid (leader) recorded a video speech which basically dropped the consultation, saying we need to move on with dialogue (very vague and obfuscated with fighting the good fight wordiness), but made clear that she was still a fully paid up member of the twaw club.

Can't find the vid but here's sbrc blog on it.

The sex based rights caucus have applied to become an official caucus but I'm not sure where they have got to.

Who allegedly made them drop the consultation.

They were allegedly pressured to drop it by a man at Google with a "trans kid" who made a largish (hardly enormous) donation.

They sold women out.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 26/11/2021 10:05

From an anonymous WEP member, and I've heard it from someone I know also grahamlinehan.substack.com/p/the-wep-continues-to-betray-its-members

Ereshkigalangcleg · 26/11/2021 10:06

As this site reported previously, one of the WEP’s biggest donors is a wealthy software engineer for Google with a trans-identified child. According to the electoral commission website, he donated £91,700 between 2015 and 2020. He was also given a role on the members assembly and was present in the feedback session at conference last year, where he described how painful it was for him to have to listen to ‘extreme views.’

Yep. No use at all, OP, I'm afraid.

I honestly don't know who I can vote for anymore. I sent an email to my local Labour MP back in September after Starmer's appearance on Marr saying it was wrong to say only women have a cervix. She finally replied two months later with a complete load of utter nonsense that contradicted itself throughout. I mean. I had already said in my earlier email that that I can't vote for Labour when you don't know what a woman is, but her doubling down with this rubbish (and essentially calling me transphobic albeit not in so many words) I find utterly infuriating and offensive.

I couldn't bring myself to vote for any of the parties in the Scottish elections in May - SNP, Scot Greens, Scot Labour & Scot Libdems are all committed to GRA and all the local candidates had signed an 'equality pledge' from TRAs. I haven't yet reached the stage when I'd consider voting Tory or Alba. Fortunately, there was a good independent standing, so at least I was able to cast my list vote.
