JK Rowling is a magnificent woman. Dignified, kind,intelligent, clearly well read and erudite, brave and strong. In an era of empty celebrity she is a role model to which people should aspire.

Just been reading some of the latest comments on twitter. There are more trans people speaking out in support of Joanne now. It is indeed heartening.

I can't even say how much I admire JKR. She could have thought 'fuck this' and stayed out of the fray. She didn't. She has stood up for those of us who have been silenced by the chilling effect and has faced appalling abuse for stating reality.

(As an aside, I'm from Edinburgh. I know where her house is. But the only people who wish to make this common knowledge so that she can face yet more abuse are women hating doxxers).

That's not what was on the screenshot of Google that a different poster posted (*@UndertonesOfCake*). That screenshot showed the address that JKR had asked people to stop showing.

JKR is wonderful.

A positive to come out of this, hot on the heels of the Nolan Podcasts and Nancy Kelley's car crash interview on Woman's Hour (which neither she nor Stonewall tweeted or drew any attention to at all) is that there are more visible cracks in the TWAW brigade, more quietly dissenting voices, fewer people defending the threats etc.

A tectonic shift is occurring, as Allison Bailey said a few weeks ago.

For those saying "you can find out her address by blah blah blah...." and "she shares info online herself so what's the difference" type shit;

Years ago I got chatting to someone on here, at some point I mentioned that I'm quite good at finding things out about people - very lighthearted of course! They said "haha bet you can't find anything about me!" Purely from what they had posted here I found out their full name, address and birthday (plus some other stuff but that was personal so I won't share) They were stunned as they'd always been careful.

Now, I found that out from what they had freely posted using no special skills, tools or whatever. If I had used that information to arrive at their house, essentially stalking them, I would have been in trouble with the police - quite rightly.

If I had collated that information and posted it online along with some pointers to encourage people to hate them - I would also, rightly, have been in trouble with the police.

Just because information is either out there or can be deduced from what is available it doesn't give anyone a pass to use it to threaten or endanger someone.

If you find out information about someone you are morally and, I would hope, legally obliged to ensure you do not use it with harmful intent. Anyone who thinks otherwise needs to go back to school and relearn "right vs wrong - reception age edition"

I remember a security lecture where the DC giving it showed a real-time screen video of how quickly you can get information about someone. The subject was a police constable who volunteered for it. In the space of only five minutes with only the officer's personal Twitter account to go on, they used a few simple online tools to find out his home address, work address (tweets had location data embedded within them) and car registration (he'd posted a picture of his car).

In a mere five minutes using some very primitive methods they'd found some very key information which could have proven useful to terrorists or other criminals.
