Grace lavery at 2am sunday morning put out a post asking british feminists for a debate , when they are in the uk in march , about 3 minutes later claimed people were too scared to debate 🙄
Helen Joyce, Julie Bindle and a few more woman have said yes ,grace is now saying no one has confirmed and that they are backing out.
So does anyone thing this will actually go ahead and want to place bets on the excuses why suddenly it cannot go ahead , backpeddling already started , ie: no one is organising ect

Grace has done at least one versus-GC debate before - on this small-but-excellent podcast:

Heterodorx (Corinna Cohn + Nina Paley) episode 26

Although that was maybe more "confrontational interview" than "debate".

I would kind of expect them to get there in the end, unlike Katy Montgomerie's rather pathetic back-pedal versus JCJ. I think Grace is made of slightly sterner stuff, and more confident in their views, and sufficiently fond of attention.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 08/11/2021 08:31

Yes I think it will. Not impressed by Lavery ruling out Kathleen Stock though.

FindTheTruth · 08/11/2021 08:40

Katy Montgomerie was called out for this too, I think by Dr Jane Clare Jones.

FindTheTruth · 08/11/2021 08:42

Time for women to repeat the call for debate publicly permanently some where to keep referring to?

EmpressaurusWitchDoesntBurn · 08/11/2021 08:43

Helen Joyce is very much on it! twitter.com/hjoycegender/status/1457628564728291328?s=21

allmywhat · 08/11/2021 08:47

Lavery is being staggeringly obnoxious about it. But I can’t figure out if that’s because Lavery intends to be deliberately obnoxious and unreasonable to a degree that prevents the event from happening, and then claim victory, or if “staggeringly obnoxious” is just Lavery’s basic personality.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 08/11/2021 08:53

I think the second goes without saying. But it's possible this is part of it.

allmywhat · 08/11/2021 09:01

Actually now I think about it, I wonder if the fact that Lavery’s openly angry about people saying Lavery intends to back out is a sign that Lavery does indeed intend to back out. It’s a thing with that type of personality.

Helleofabore · 08/11/2021 09:03

I think that the way this has progressed is very indicative of the types of personalities involved.

Lavery’s tweet-versation with Andrew Doyle about this is rather enlightening. And not in any good way about Lavery.

Helleofabore · 08/11/2021 09:07

And maybe we all need a dictionary written by Lavery since they are often redefining words to suit themselves.

Or the moderator hold them to use recognised use of terms and words.

Floisme · 08/11/2021 09:19

Am I right in thinking Lavery has a book coming out?

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 08/11/2021 09:21

Yes, Lavery is open about doing this to sell books.

Rightsraptor · 08/11/2021 09:21

I had no idea Lavery is English. Now I'm going to have to revisit my previous 'nutty Californian' belief.

Lavery seems to think that because sex was not clearly defined in previous times this means it was open and fluid. It is only now that woman = adult human female. What Lavery does not appear to consider (if have not heard the entire podcast yet) is that sex was always considered so blindingly obvious it did not need a definition.

yestheyhavethesamedad · 08/11/2021 09:21

@Floisme
Yes they have said thats partly why they have suggested this , so that they can plug their book

Floisme · 08/11/2021 09:27

Thanks all, I think the book explains it.

It's amusing how Lavery, having instigated this, now seems to be expecting Helen Joyce to do all the organising.

Helleofabore · 08/11/2021 09:30

Well it seems that Matt d'Ancona will organise it. I know nothing about that person but since Helen agreed, I hope they get a balanced moderator.

NecessaryScene · 08/11/2021 09:35

Ah, I see she's made the error of taking "Not your support human" off of her Twitter bio. Wink

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 08/11/2021 09:38

Lavery went to a prestigious English boys’ school and Oxford according to Lavery’s own tweets.

JoanOgden · 08/11/2021 09:40

Matt d'Ancona is pretty sensible and will do a good job, I think (if Lavery allows him to).

yestheyhavethesamedad · 08/11/2021 09:43

Is lavery also linked somehow to penny laurie ?

Some tweets yesterday seem to suggest so , so wasnt sure if this sudden urge to debate is partly linked to lauries tweets criticising julie bindle ect

Apparently Laurie Penny and Laverey dated in the past.
MTCoffeePot · 08/11/2021 09:50

I remember the incident on Twitter a couple of years ago when Anthony Watson (former Labour advisor) demanded that Joyce organise a debate at an event organised by the Economist and started treating Joyce as though she was his PA demanding she get him tickets to the event and tell him the dates and venue etc. The entitlement!

MTCoffeePot · 08/11/2021 09:51

I menat Helen Joyce!

yestheyhavethesamedad · 08/11/2021 09:52

Sorry put names wrong way around , is that the previous "lesbian" relationship they are referring to when they were called out by bindle for using the term qu**r, that resulted in the latest how horrible british feminists are ?

No idea, but it would explain a lot...
