Women died for my right to vote, but......

.... who in God's name is a sane gender critical person supposed to vote for if they can't bring themselves to vote Tory?

Imagine said member of the electorate also cared a lot about the environment and loathed Brexit with every bone in her sane GC body. Who could she vote for? Asking for a friend....

Why not vote Tory? I don't get why not. I am not a Tory voter but absolutely will vote for them if they oppose self ID. Is not voting Tory more important than preserving women's rights.

Depends. If I lived in Priti Patel’s constituency there is not a chance in hell I’d put a vote next to her name. I don’t care what her views are on this, because her views on everything else are abhorrent.

bakingdemon · 04/11/2021 17:08

At the next election write to all the candidates and ask where they stand (don't use a form email or campaign - make it an individual one you're more likely to get a response). E.g. if you were in Canterbury then Rosie Duffield has been quite clear she doesn't take the party line on this issue.

Iggly · 04/11/2021 17:08

Why do people think the Tories oppose self ID? They’ve warmed to it before but admittedly dropped it.

So I just don’t trust them. Making a few sound bite comments is not enough.

MsFogi · 04/11/2021 17:10

It's such a pity the Women's Equality Party was all about the T from day one of their existence. I was so excited about them until I read their manifesto when it was launched all those years ago - they would be the natural home for GC women if they actually represented Women.

2orangey · 04/11/2021 17:24

Is there a short, easily memorised phrase we can all write on our spoiled ballots?

KohlaParasaurus · 04/11/2021 17:52

My local MP is Conservative (former Red Wall constituency) and has made it clear that he knows a lad is a lad and a lass is a lass and that's that. He is also a belligerent lout and no friend of women. I'd struggle to vote Conservative if he stands at the next election.

Lottapianos · 04/11/2021 17:54

'It's such a pity the Women's Equality Party was all about the T from day one of their existence'

Absolutely. What a catastrophic disappointment they have been

Bellaisoneluckywoman · 04/11/2021 18:02

"Is there a short, easily memorised phrase we can all write on our spoiled ballots?"

What a good idea. Would be powerful if we could get the word out and achieve mass action.

Being heard on this issue is really hard. Could YouGov or some other polling agency be encouraged to get involved?

Oh - and thank heavens for MN. Finally somewhere we can actually talk about this stuff. GAH.

@Bellaisoneluckywoman

I have been feeling so frustrated at the lack of a party I can vote for. The media might pick up on it if we all write the same phrase. It has to be something quick to write which doesn't take up too much space.

'No X if you can't respect my sex'.

'Woman = Adult Human Female'

Anyone got any other suggestions?

Babdoc · 04/11/2021 18:46

I have no conflict of interest. I live in Scotland, and the only credible opposition to Sturgeon and her financial suicide independence plan is the Tories.
Who are also the only party who still recognise that women have rights. I live in a marginal constituency, so will make damn sure I vote Tory.

amter · 04/11/2021 18:51

I am now a single issue voter, the risk to womens rights is too great to ignore. I will vote Tory, my candidate is GC.

Once we have secured womens rights again then I will vote based on the many other issues I am concerned with; environment, social services, nhs etc

BlackeyedSusan · 04/11/2021 18:59

can't fucking stand bloody Johnson... but Labour candidate is full on twaw and has a tiny majority.

it is either vote tory. or spoil the ballot (again) with If you can't respect my sex, don't expect my x

depends how GC they are.

ArabellaScott · 04/11/2021 19:01

BlackeyedSusan, I like the line break in your post. Smile

Mrsorganmorgan · 04/11/2021 19:33

I feel exactly the same. I did look at the SDP manifesto, and it looked fine. In Wales, the Education syllabus for next year is absolutely ridiculous, and you could call it - teaching children lies.

GreenLunchBox · 04/11/2021 19:35

A government lasts five years max, women losing the rights to be considered an equal human in society will take centuries to reverse.

Five years MIN you mean

theemperorhasnoclothes · 04/11/2021 19:44

I keep hoping the National Health Action Party will have a resurgence, but in the last few elections my choice has been Tory, Lib Dem or Labour so I've spoilt my ballot in every one.

I'd love a good NHA party candidate, SDP or independent to vote for.

I can't vote Tory because of their systematic underfunding (and destruction) of schools and the NHS and the disability benefits fiasco. All of which hugely affects women's lives too. But I simply can't ever vote for a party that tries to deny the material reality of binary sex.

MsFogi · 04/11/2021 20:54

Same here - I have been spoiling my vote for a number of years but now I feel I just have to hold my nose and use it for whichever candidate understands and respects biological sex.
JustAnotherPoster00 · 04/11/2021 22:14

The Tories might align to the GC brigade but they wont respect your human rights they just need to know which section of the workhouse they put you in

JustAnotherPoster00 · 04/11/2021 22:17

And dont forget, the Tories are on your side even if they blocked the 'upskirting bill' Hmm

Leafstamp · 04/11/2021 22:25

@Fariha31

If none of the other parties have reconsidered please consider voting tory. I would have just laughed if someone, even a year ago, told me I would be saying this, but once women is re-defined to mean anyone there is no coming back. The implications are huge, basically if you take it to its logical extreme (and there is nothing to indicate that they wont, the opposite infact) women will lose every right and protection their currently is. A government lasts five years max, women losing the rights to be considered an equal human in society will take centuries to reverse.
Really good point.
LobsterNapkin · 04/11/2021 22:41

Because otherwise the ifs and imf have continually said over the last however many years that it’s labours policies that would be best for the economy.

I don't understand this really though - the IMF is basically a neoliberal economic organisation. If they are saying Labour = good for the economy, doesn't that suggest that Labour's economics are about libertarian economics too?

So socially libertarian and economically globalist - how is that leftist at all?

Tabasco007 · 04/11/2021 22:41

@Alektopteryx

Neither the SDP nor Communist Party seem to agree with gender identity dogma. Unfortunately, nor do they seem to stand in my area.
Yes, I was going to mention the SDP .
GingerCake2018 · 04/11/2021 22:50

I voted Welsh conservative for the first time this year. I live in an area with a very safe plaid seat, so I knew my vote wasn't going to actually affect anything, it would have been a much tougher decision otherwise.

One of my best friend is a local conservative party councillor. She finds it amusing that I am so troubled at having to vote Tory. But she also knows what a women is!!
