BBC spokesperson said: “The article looks at a complex subject from different perspectives and acknowledges it is difficult to assess the extent of the issue.

“It includes testimony from a range of different sources and provides appropriate context. It went through our rigorous editorial processes.

“It is important that journalism looks at issues - even where there are strongly held positions. The BBC is here to ensure debate and to make sure a wide a range of voices are heard.”

She's really not listening to her silly self, is she. Because the exact same argument could be used towards her own son.

Why doesn't he date women with dildos?

Or any gay man. According to this logic Oscar Wilde and Alan Turing should have just found women who were happy to use a dildo.

Mummyoflittledragon · 29/10/2021 14:48

@21budgies

And the BBC is now defining homosexuality as meaning "homogender".
The BBC has a long climb ahead if it wants to become unbiased and report on a wide range of views. I wonder if it will make it.

@PeriChristmas

Of course, but I meant that the reason lesbians will only be attracted to women isn’t just the absence of dick, or the absence of maleness of any sort, as in women are not just non men, we are not just lacking a penis.

Of course then there’s personal preference after that which will mean it’s only individuals they are attracted to. I just meant the argument that some (minority) of the have had their penis removed doesn’t mean lesbians will be able to feel attracted to them. That the things that they are innately attracted to in women aren’t the absence of being male, but rather the presence of being female. Non of which can be faked even by the supposedly best passing transition.

She thinks she's being clever and refraining from stereotyping lesbians as exclusively interested in women though.

It's a very self-congratulatory tweet.

It's the male obsession with penis, isn't it. That the definition of a woman could easily be a man without a penis. Because without a penis, what is a man???

Dougalskeeper · 29/10/2021 19:42

As a lesbian I could not date a transwoman for the simple reason they are male. No amount of cosmetic surgery and cross sex hormones can change that.

Why indeed.

It's not a 'stereotype', it's the definition.

Don't you wish sometimes that people who think the meanings of words (and the realities they signify) don't matter would just shut up?

PurgatoryOfPotholes · 29/10/2021 22:06

If I were an unkind woman, I might speculate on why she can't seem to conceive that sex between women could consist of something other than one partner penetrating another with a dildo. It's a very phallocentric view.

It does seem odd that LGBTQIA+ activists champion people’s right to enjoy any consensual kink or fetish without shame, but somehow don’t extend that to respecting sex-based attraction. Clearly some people’s right to be accepted as who they say they are matters more than others.

MamsellMarie · 30/10/2021 06:11

It does look like the new DG of BBC Tim Davie is making big changes. Have people really seen the light and common sense prevails?
That would be great. -- hopefully it will influence Scottish policy which is where I am.

BBC Audience Services - Appreciation Case numberCAS-……
Thanks for taking the time to send us your views, we appreciate your feedback and are glad to know you enjoy our work.

Didn’t take long, and I thanked them for starting to remember their ethos. I also shared that in this year of 2021 a young lesbian I know has effectively gone back in the closet at uni just to avoid the hassle. That Stonewall of all people were not only seemingly cheering the attitude that lead to this on, but actually seems to be spearheading it is unbelievable.

ArabellaScott · 30/10/2021 09:03

That's so sad and infuriating to hear, Humpty. In 2021 lesbians should be able to come out without expecting hassle.

PurgatoryOfPotholes · 30/10/2021 15:33

Angela Wild on twitter, the woman whose research made so many so agitated.

A few days ago @BBCNews contacted @GetTheLOutUK for a quote about the complaints received for exposing the sexual pressure placed on lesbians
The article is here but the quote not

Text version of image for people using screenreaders

"We understand our research is under attack for not being "representative". We never claimed statistical generalisation with this work as the methodology makes clear, but to show that a phenomenon does indeed exist and needs to be investigated further. This is what larger LGBT organisations are funded to do yet they neglect their duty towards lesbians and demonised survivors instead.

Many studies done by Stonewall themselves used a much smaller sample yet claim statistical generalisation and are used to change legislation. Yet they do not receive such negative reception as our piece did.

We spoke to victims of the cotton ceiling. Rape is not an anecdote when it happens to you. These women are brave beyond measure to speak up especially in the current climate of silencing we live in. Their stories are important and need to be heard in the wider #metoo context and the lesbophobic culture promoted by most, if not all LGBT organisations.
We believe women. We believe lesbians."

And here's a tweet apparently comparing abused lesbians to Goerbels (sic... followed by levity on the misspelling). I'd honestly have expected better from a barrister who specialises in discrimination.
