Where can a GC feminist spend their cash this Christmas?

CruellaDeVilla · 25/10/2021 15:11

So AIBU for not spending any money with John Lewis (who usually get around £2k in spending from me at Christmas)?

M&S are the same. So where’s a GC feminist supposed to shop this year?

Please vote but also, where can I shop for Christmas? I’d really like to support a company which protects or stands up for Women’s rights.

YANBU = why would you spend money with a company like this
YABU = get over it

Some examples below, there are more but these companies have drunk the kool aid.

Buy a lot of Posie Parker merchandise :D

MaskingForIt · 25/10/2021 15:31

Shop on Etsy and message the sellers their views on the trans before you buy?

lmpeachment · 25/10/2021 15:32

I voted YABU but only for spending 2k at Christmas!!

CuteGirlsWatchMeEatEther · 25/10/2021 15:34

The wizarding world of Harry Potter website?

CruellaDeVilla · 25/10/2021 16:02

Adult human female store is a good shout! As is Harry Potter merchandise.

Are you boycottiNG John Lewis specifically because of the ad?

UndertonesOfCake · 25/10/2021 16:06

Not at my business, and I'll be very happy to go without your custom thank you Biscuit

Rubyupbeat · 25/10/2021 16:07

Get over yourself!Hmm

Well thats not helpful

Shes gonna need the name of the business so she doesn’t accidentally buy something from you

HailAdrian · 25/10/2021 16:14

You're offended by a kid in a dress?

UndertonesOfCake · 25/10/2021 16:23

@rufus I'm not going to give out my business name on MN but if the OP is really keen to avoid me she should just avoid buying cakes, Christmas puddings and related goods - that'll keep her safe Hmm

DreadlocksMadeMeHappy · 25/10/2021 16:25

Why would you ask this in AIBU? Get thee over to the sex and gender board, because it may not turn into a total bun fight over there and the thread might stand long enough for those of us that are interested in the answers to actually check out some of the suggestions.

Just order a couple of bits of the adult human female store, so thanks for that.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 25/10/2021 16:26

Are you incapable of reading a thread? The OP has linked a JL story re their fitting rooms.

Not their ad. The ad put me off as its fucking shit, not because it features a boy in a dress.

Totally understand why you won't give your business name out (and you shouldn't, in case you get brigaded) but I'd definitely buy from you!

Well there you go, that will cut it down for her

Hope you have a successful Christmas

RufustheBadgeringReindeer · 25/10/2021 16:44

Oops and yeah probably best not to say your business name…

CruellaDeVilla · 25/10/2021 17:54

@VladmirsPoutine

Are you boycottiNG John Lewis specifically because of the ad?
Nope. Because of their stance on changing rooms and their refusal to support women (as many GC feminists discovered and documentedduring Pride month).

I haven’t seen the ad, I don’t watch tv.

I do spend a lot at Christmas and want to spend wisely. Thanks for the suggestions so far.

I would seek out women owned/ run businesses. You can't be certain of their views, but in general I think putting women as the focus of your spending is a feminist thing to do. Often if you look at a business's social media you can tell if they are not GC. Sadly most businesses that are, will keep quiet about it. I can't think of any larger stores/ chains that are GC. Only ones to avoid.

VladmirsPoutine · 25/10/2021 18:15

Apologies I hadn't clicked the links.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 25/10/2021 18:33

Agree with looking for women led businesses. It's also worth seeking out women led businesses from minority groups too.

Curious why you'd suggest this? OP specifically said she has money to spend and not enough places to shop. It's great that you've thought about some free stuff to give if necessary; it's the thought that counts. But the OP also mentioned being a feminist, so maybe not much overlap in your lists.

I'd keep an eye on this thread, or start your own "low/no budget" one - maybe some stuff will come up that's cheap or free that isn't knee-jerk misogynist, or the too-expensive stuff will give you ideas for some non-sexist or even anti-sexist cheapos/freebies - always nice to branch out!!

Tunnocks have lots of merch and worth supporting just now
