Where can a GC feminist spend their cash this Christmas?

68 replies

CruellaDeVilla · 25/10/2021 15:11

So AIBU for not spending any money with John Lewis (who usually get around £2k in spending from me at Christmas)?

M&S are the same. So where’s a GC feminist supposed to shop this year?

Please vote but also, where can I shop for Christmas? I’d really like to support a company which protects or stands up for Women’s rights.

YANBU = why would you spend money with a company like this
YABU = get over it

Some examples below, there are more but these companies have drunk the kool aid.

I would send everybody a subscription to a feminist type journal. I imagine there is such a thing. You will be the most popular person in town.

JumperandJacket · 25/10/2021 18:46

I’ve often read about people being peak-transed but I think this thread might be a peak-GC moment for me.

Hi, OP. We're moving your thread over to the Sex & Gender board now.

Journeyofthedragons · 25/10/2021 18:53

@Newjobnewstart

Tunnocks have lots of merch and worth supporting just now
It was only a few years ago that feminists were advocating boycotting Tunnock's for this advert - now they're recommending them. Hmm

Why? Why does this have to move? Ffs Brexit posts are left on AIBU, parenting posts are left on AIBU….

Fuck sake MNHQ.

@UndertonesOfCake

Not at my business, and I'll be very happy to go without your custom thank you Biscuit
Obviously you can't share that here, which is a shame, as I'd be delighted to avoid.
ArabellaScott · 25/10/2021 19:08

I generally try to shop from small, and local businesses, buy handmade, etc.

ArtemesiaK · 25/10/2021 19:11

I make stuff and have online shops (and donate to feminist causes) but I'd be scared to put a link on here because of TRAs.... :(

VladmirsPoutine · 25/10/2021 19:22

I know it's already been mentioned but I always try and spend on Etsy, it can be quite pricey but I want to support independent designers where I can.

As others have said best not to…

And I'd be too scared to put my business name on here because of the TERFs

Oh youre in luck

Don’t think there many terfs on here

CatsArePeople · 25/10/2021 19:46

And I'd be too scared to put my business name on here because of the TERFs.

Because TERFs are known to make rape and death threats? Hmm

RufustheBadgeringReindeer · 25/10/2021 19:46

Or TRAs 🤔

Though i agree with both of you….youve no idea what sort of people might go onto your websites

RaisedByPangolins · 25/10/2021 19:52

There will be people on your friends list on FB who run their own business - anyone who’s never shared #bekind is probably GC Grin. It’s so tricky these days - I run my own business and I know that people click on it after they’ve seen me post on other pages as my personal account so I do have to be careful what I share

How wrong is that?

And why is this thread being moved? FFS.

CruellaDeVilla · 25/10/2021 20:58

So maybe I should have rephrased to

“ AIBU to refuse to spend any money with organisations who are anti women?”

But I suppose that would get moved too?

OP posts:
SpindelWhorl · 25/10/2021 21:09

How about, AIBU to not want to spend money in shops that knowingly let men wank on the merch and put it back on the lingerie hangers?

I like supporting entrepreneurial women and their businesses around the world with microloans via lendwithcare.

Do you buy jewellery? I am I the woman for you 😍

LastSummerHere · 25/10/2021 21:17

Nah, you're just a coward who wants women's money while gleefully shitting over their rights at the same time. TRAs always want their cake and eat it....geddit, geddit?Grin

Keep your cake...I wouldn't have TRA shit in my house.

All a "TERF" will do is...not buy your stuff. And apparently you don't want that either so it would appear to be a win-win situation. It's not GC women who are issuing death threats, rape threats, doxxing people, trying to get people sacked from their jobs etc. That would be the TRAs.
