This is why the conservatives will stay in power. They are the only party that have the balls to voice an unpopular opinion.
It's only unpopular among transactivists and the unthinking 'Be Kind' crowd.
In my experience, most people take a 'live and let live' attitude, when they think it's about nice harmless gay people who like dressing up. But as soon as they find out more, they tend to be outraged by males in women's sport and women's spaces. Not on political grounds, just common decency.
It's a dangerous opinion for ordinary people to voice, because they will be attacked. But senior members of the government don't have to be frightened of the Twitter mob.
The Tory party isn't generally feminist (with some wonderful exceptions). They are like most of the population: just ordinary people who don't believe a strange new dogma.
It's excellent that they're starting to speak up about women's and children's rights. I think it means they're starting to feel confident that most of the population agrees with them.
