I thought this was interesting.

So, what's the TRA argument against this going to be? Surely a backlash against this ruling from the Home Secretary by insisting these criminals, including rapists must by named as Women would simply shine huge amounts of sunlight on an unpalatable issue?

@IdrisElbow

Good news. Now they just need to get them out of the women's prisons where they have absolutely no business being.
Agreed.
MishyJDI · 23/10/2021 23:17

You might make that decision for yourself but why are you content to make that decision for other women and children? Particularly the women of faith who might need to withdraw from public spaces?

Just because you are a person of "faith" does not mean that faith is not bigoted and inclusive. What would Jesus do?

Iggly · 23/10/2021 23:18

@FreeBritnee

It’s certainly an unpopular opinion currently and good for her for tackling it.
I don’t think it is actually. In the Twitter-verse then yes. But almost everywhere else you look, no.

That’s the problem with the internet and social media - finding a representative population is tricky.

And why, pray tell, haven’t the Tories tackled this before? It’s been years in the making.

BoreOfWhabylon · 23/10/2021 23:18

@FreeBritnee

This is why the conservatives will stay in power. They are the only party that have the balls to voice an unpopular opinion.
No, it's because they know it's becoming a more and more popular opinion as people are finding out what has been going on.

Labour needs to wake up fast. I hope they do, but I fear they won't.

OrangeJuiceAndNoodles · 23/10/2021 23:20

Yes!

Zero fucks given Grin Well done Priti!

FreeBritnee · 23/10/2021 23:23

There was an interesting documentary recently where they discussed companies like Facebook having changed their algorithm so that the most controversial/active comments stayed at the top instead of most recent. They explained that this one action had changed how people communicated online but also how topics were perceived. This is now filtering down into the real world. Twitter unfortunately is stepping out of the screen and coming to the workplace, the school, the uni and the knitting group. It’s scary shit.

MrsOvertonsWindow · 23/10/2021 23:24

Wonder how the Labour Party will play this? Duck and hide presumably after their recent Cervix disaster movie? But maybe not?

Mummyoflittledragon · 23/10/2021 23:25

@JudyGemstone

I’ve been doing some thinking and I think maybe I’m ok with transwomen in female spaces until it comes to any trans women who have offended, especially against women/children
Really? So offend first, ban after.

Or maybe just don’t bother to ban at all and manipulate the situation so that the victim or their family are seen as the perpetrators and fail to safeguard women and girls. www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-10083783/Loudoun-County-father-arrested-school-meeting-says-daughter-raped-boy-girls-bathroom.html

If this is the best you can do, it would be better to stop thinking.

BoreOfWhabylon · 23/10/2021 23:25

@Scraggythang

I feel like this is a bit of trying to cover some tracks before the inevitable public enquiry into stonewall.
Yes. Trying to create distance, just like when the wheels started wobbling with Kids' Company. But this is much, much bigger than KC.

I don't consider it acceptable for women and girls to be put at risk in this way, even though you think it's ok.
PickAChew · 23/10/2021 23:25

@Warmduscher

Finding common ground with Priti Patel is proper doing my head in.
Quite. Finally something to make me despise her a little less.
nauticant · 23/10/2021 23:26

I think that 400+ figure may include some joint enterprise prosecutions and possibly also other forms of penetration? Trying to find original reporting of the figure

When I checked on this a couple of years back, the number of "female rapists" convicted under joint enterprise was vanishingly small.

whynotwhatknot · 23/10/2021 23:26

cant believe im agreeing with that woman

i this from now or does it apply to trans in womens prisons already

Yes, agreed. Very scary! Imagine how much better things would be if people didn’t live in their phones and echo chambers so much.
Enough4me · 23/10/2021 23:29

I think there is a poll still open to sign to petition that the sex of perpetrators as well as gender should be recorded. I know the government have responded and now we have this update from PP, but will try to find the link as if it is still open others may wish to sign.

Enough4me · 23/10/2021 23:30

Found it, petition.parliament.uk/petitions/590123

LobsterNapkin · 23/10/2021 23:30

I don't think this is terribly complicated. It's the same reason no one else has.

How many women who post here regularly were at first very sympathetic to trans rights, who thought maybe there was something to the medical element, who trusted organisations like SW, and especially medical professionals, to say what was right and true?

Lots did. And ministers and civil servants are the same. This capture has been done very cleverly with people approached individually who were thought to be sympathetic. Mention of questionable things was kept under wraps. Lots of people didn't connect dots until bad things started to happen and those that did were branded as bigots and aggressively silenced.

It still seems to be the university educated urban progressives who are very captured on this, and that was clever, because in a lot of ways they set the social agenda.

BoreOfWhabylon · 23/10/2021 23:30

I did read somewhere on Twitter (can't find it now) that at least one SpAd was spotted at the LGBA conference.

SpindelWhorl · 23/10/2021 23:30

I can still despise Priti Patel.

She had to be brought metaphorically kicking and screaming to the table where women and girls were looking down from for crumbs.

This is welcome of course; but long overdue.

I don't think it's ever been many, but it's worth knowing if using the stat about male rapists being recorded as women, because people will ask.
ErrolTheDragon · 23/10/2021 23:33

This is welcome of course; but long overdue.

Yes - of course, it should never have been allowed to happen in the first place. I can't begin to imagine wtf the police and the rest of the system thought they were doing.

Mummyoflittledragon · 23/10/2021 23:34

I must say I am very pleasantly surprised. This will be in part at least in response to the online parliamentary petition, which was sent out on 15th October. The response talked of gender assigned at birth and was rather wishy washy so this is good progress.

GreyhoundG1rl · 23/10/2021 23:34

@MishyJDI

GreyhoundG1rl Yeah you do. In the same way you dont pre-judge anyone else. Transwomen are no more a threat then cis women. Punish wrong doers, not innocent women.
Well, that's so obviously nonsensical I don't know why I'm bothering to reply, really... A convicted rapist in a women's prison is no greater threat to women than the biological women already there? Sure.
SpindelWhorl · 23/10/2021 23:35

Where were the equality impact assessments of all these new policies?

Nowhere.
