Powerful, powerful stuff.

More power to you Ceri.

Was beautiful, what an incredible woman.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 22/10/2021 17:47

Ah, thank you HoardingSamphireSaurus.

PickAChew · 22/10/2021 17:47

The same person who is feart of purple clothes and ribbons.

HereticFanjo · 22/10/2021 17:48

What an absolute legend she is. I'd love to know who else spoke at this event and all the others if the speeches were all this fabulous.

partystress · 22/10/2021 17:48

Gave me shivers. I knew nothing about this woman until now, and have no idea who the complainant is, but desperately hope her bravery, at this time, on top of Stephen Nolan’s podcast, and Liz Truss, and Rosie Duffileld, and the Baroness, and JKR becomes a completely unstoppable snowball of sense that brings this awful era to an end.

CandyLeBonBon · 22/10/2021 17:51

Ive been watching all this unfold on Twitter.

It's all just so unbelievable. No wonder BJ doesn't want to add misogyny as a hate crime. We'd need a second police force.

picklemewalnuts · 22/10/2021 17:52

Wonderful.

NevermindNelson · 22/10/2021 17:54

I thought it was beautifully written and it shows the thoughtfulness and eloquence of GC feminists.

NecessaryScene · 22/10/2021 17:58

Ceri appeared for about 10 minutes near the start of the last Mess We're In and talked about it, if you want a chance to see her determination in person.

Artichokeleaves · 22/10/2021 18:01

The police have questions for me? Good. I have questions for them.

Questions like, “What influence does being a member of the Stonewall diversity champions scheme have on the way you police this issue?”

Questions like, “When I reported death and rape threats to you, you told me to withdraw from the debate and stop tweeting, so did you offer the same advice to the man who complained against me?”

I cannot wait to hear the answers because they bloody well need answering. The MoJ can come answer too.

Bloody brilliant woman. Flowers

@TheCountessofFitzdotterel

Blooming heck, what a fabulous speech.

I thought this was a rather interesting question:
Questions like, “When I reported death and rape threats to you, you told me to withdraw from the debate and stop tweeting, so did you offer the same advice to the man who complained against me?”

Btw who is the complainant?

The person you think it is.

After mentioning said person on Twitter and The Mess We're In she's talked to a solictor who advised her to delete the tweet naming the person (and she has deleted that tweet).

I hope we can respect Ceri's wishes and not name the complainant.

StealthPolarBear · 22/10/2021 18:05

Amazing speech. The stuff about being guilty worried me slightly but I'm guessing she's figured all that out.

Sexnotgender · 22/10/2021 18:08

I think I love her a little bit ❤️

Gumbomambo · 22/10/2021 18:11

She’s amazing. I’m so proud to have women like her standing up with us. I hope she’s ok and I hope that her and her family are ok.

BeBraverToday · 22/10/2021 18:12

Amazing, powerful article. ❤

SimpleHoardOfTruth · 22/10/2021 18:15

Oooof

HighNetGirth · 22/10/2021 18:15

Yes, let's compare and contrast the police response to women abused and threatened online with the police response to complaints by trans activists and their allies about speech (neither abusive nor threatening) that the TRAs find objectionable.

I welcome a really detailed look at those discrepancies, and not just in Cheri Black's case. And I look forward to hearing the various police forces involved step forward to explain why the responses were so different.

3timeslucky · 22/10/2021 18:19

Wow!

AlfonsoTheDinosaur · 22/10/2021 18:25

I'm being dense - for which, my apologies - but could someone please DM me the name of the man who is frightened of ribbons? Thank you!

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 22/10/2021 18:32

That was a fantastic speech. He picked on the wrong woman this time!

DialSquare · 22/10/2021 18:33

Wow. So powerful. If I was ever to question my opinion on this issue (I won't), all I need to do is read thebrilliant pieces written by many women who feel the same as me and confirm that I'm right. I have nothing but contempt for the complainant and his ilk.

Datun · 22/10/2021 18:38

Fucking hell, that is brilliant. Such strength. She's actually calling their bluff.

We all know the rank double standards being applied over this issue.

How anti women's protesters are ignored or actively encouraged and women barely raising a fucking eyebrow, are targeted and threatened.

It's time to get it on the table, and this woman, who I have not heard of before, is doing it.

She's a bloody heroine.

If there's a crowd funder, I will contribute.

ArabellaScott · 22/10/2021 18:40

Yes, Datun. Shovel here ready for her crowdfunder.

I do think we need a fighting fund for any women needing it.

Sicario · 22/10/2021 18:44

The Judge in Harry The Owl's case against the college of policing was very clear in the judgment he handed down regarding police over-reach, and the danger of "policing" free speech. Professor Stock also gave evidence.

It's a long read, but covers everything that Ceri is talking about.

The police have a LOT to answer for. Still, easier to join in with the bullying and silencing of women than to go out there and catch actual criminals, eh?
