I don't even know where to start.

Gate keeping men in dresses Hmm

Would it be ridiculously optimistic of me to think this sort of ludicrous overreaction is a sign that we're nearing the end of this mass delusion? All these men have to say to the charity is We are genderfluid. We identify as women for a few hours a year, coincidentally while we are engaged in this much-loved fundraising endeavour. Only a bigot would question this. #acceptancewithoutexception

Isn’t this one of the things that many feminists and trans activists agree on? There’s loads of threads on here about how much people hate drag.

Hattie765 · 20/10/2021 07:49

FFS it's too early for this shit.

FlippinFumin · 20/10/2021 07:50

I am almost certain the LGB community are not offended in the least by this fund raising.

PoisonCrystal · 20/10/2021 07:50

Oh dear! They haven’t really thought this through, have they?!

borntobequiet · 20/10/2021 07:53

I like the way a member of the rugby club describes it as “political cobblers”. And they do know how to accessorise!

I have no problem at all with men wearing whatever the fuck they want, so long as they don't claim it magically makes them women.

"It's ok when we do it"

Runningupthecurtains · 20/10/2021 07:58

It's really not the clothes that make drag offensive.

Sticking a dress on isnt Drag, there is so much more to it than that and a lot of it IS misogynistic.
lanadelgrey · 20/10/2021 08:00

During a break at Filia last weekend a stag party went through the square where the protesters were. One guy in a tutu and another in Gerri Halliwell Union Jack number didn’t quite expect a group of lesbians to cheer and whoop so loudly Grin

TreXX · 20/10/2021 08:02

Actually I've always felt uncomfortable with rugby lads capering about in dresses for larks.

They're not exercising sartorial creativity and freedom, they're poking fun at eachother being dressed like a woman.

Like being a woman is the worst thing they can think of. They see it as degrading.

I'm sure they don't think that deeply about it of course.

Oh come on. There's a difference between a grotesque parody of women, by men flouncing and peacocking around like pantomime dames in ott frocks and a shopfull of make-up because that's what laydees do, and calling themselves often misogynist stagenames. And a bunch of blokes briefly putting on a dress or a skirt for charity. I mean... men can wear dresses anyway if they like, so think it's pretty odd anyone would give them money for just standing there in one. Or think it was simehow offensive to LFBT people. But there you go...

Yes, I don't give a hoot about men and boys wearing clothes etc stereotypically associated with women and girls.

It's interesting that cross-dressing really isn't a thing for women and girls these days, except pehaps in the matter of not having long straight hair, which seems to have become de rigeur for young women. Possibly not wearing makeup or heels would also feature.

Naturally, the many older women with short hair, comfortable shoes and no makeup don't count in this respect, as we are invisible.

I agree. the article has given me quite a headache.
Whatwouldscullydo · 20/10/2021 08:08

Seriously Hmm

They actually have the nerve to decide what's offensive ajd what isn't regarding men wearing dresses ? It's OK when they do it but no one else can?

Wtf is that about.

I thought it wasn't abjut stereotypes so why does a dress offend them?

They aren't doing drag though, drag is more than wearing dresses. This looks like lighthearted fun to raise money for a very worthwhile charity, how someone can find it offensive is mind boggling.

This. I am sure that when the charity says it might offend the LGBT community, they mean it might offend the T community, i.e. men, and couldn't care less about the offense to actual women. Being there to be mocked is all just part of the service we are meant to provide.

I think you're overthinking it, what about it suggests that they think being a woman is the worst thing they can think of?
TreXX · 20/10/2021 08:14

@Fetarabbit
Ok maybe 'worst thing they can think of' is OTT but the point was they are mocking eachother being dressed as women - why do you think they see that as a bad thing?
