Feminist T-shirts you can usefully wear in Tesco

(Other grocery suppliers are available)

I’ve not generally been a slogan t-shirt wearer, but it turns out post Covid my off-duty style is evolving to be a lot more relaxed than it used to be! So I’ll now happily be in whatever comfywear whilst doing the shopping etc. I was thinking about the daily acts of feminism and planting seeds of ideas thing and thinking that wearing T-shirts with a thought-provoking feminist message on is a useful thing to do whilst shopping; if people see the message and they find it intriguing they may go away and find out more. Nothing offensive (not counting claimed offence at gender critical belief itself).

The feminist tshirts that I have aren’t really suitable - they are either just celebratory slogans (like courage calls to courage, I incite this meeting etc) or you have to be already in the know to get the relevance, like BirdyRose designs (my favourite Magdalen one is too sweary for polite company as well).

Has anyone got any feminist slogan apparel that would fit these criteria? Thought provoking for observers, not sweary, makes the point clearly?

Hope this all makes sense

@SpindelWhorl

Literal Violets #ManFriday

are great.

DP bought a Literal Violets tee-shirt because he doesn't give a fuck (well he does, but about me and his daughters and my daughter and other people's daughters) and I didn't get one because I want to design my own which of course I'll never get round to ...

I keep meaning to make one with a fancy 'Be Furious' design on it.. a riff on the 'be kind' t-shirts for girls...

But I also won't get around to it...!!

Maybe a TreXX would be cool too.

I work in a pub, and bought a tshirt from thespark.company/collections/feminist-apparel?page=5 the other day specifically for work Grin It’s black with plain white lettering and simply reads “don’t tell me to smile”.
I was tempted by another one from a company on Instagram that reads “Carry yourself with the confidence of a mediocre white man” but thought that one was a bit much for work Blush

EmbarrassingHadrosaurus · 21/10/2021 17:15

#BeKind?

#SmileOnDemand?

I'd rather vent the full force of my righteous wrath

(I acknowledge that I don't have T-shirt slogan skills.)

This has artist Artemisia Gentileschi's quote 'I will show you what a woman can do'

@HighNetGirth
Your slogan is the best I’ve heard so far!

Also love "Help! She's thinking thoughts I don't like." @AlkasaurusHex mentioned- I might wear that one

Shein has quite a lot of good dinosaur t-shirts (and even dungarees!) at the moment!

Justtryingtobehelpful · 22/10/2021 17:36

I have Cis, My Arse one from wild womyn Workshop. People read it then lean in to read the small print of 'Biology is not bigotry' and 'woman is not an identity'
They look confused then ask me what cuz means. I tell them it means Non-trans as per the definition on stonewall's website,😂
They look annoyed as they realise it places trans as the default and them on the side.
Then I move on to explaining how it a man identifies as a women as per their feelings, they are a woman. Cue their response of that's ridiculous. Yes, I reply, it's just biology not bigotry. Then, they want to finish the conversation...... A slow peaking as they don't want to think too much about it...... Too fast.....

Justtryingtobehelpful · 22/10/2021 17:36

*cis not cuz ☺️

Inspired by this thread, I’ve just made these for my next supermarket trip. But I think I need to re-do the Magdalen one as I’m pretty sure I’ve misquoted her.

I’m moving on to dinosaurs this weekend.

Please explain the dinosaur T shirts please!!!

UnfinishedBunting · 23/10/2021 10:20

Someone commented that women were 'rights-hoarding dinosaurs', rather than 'justifiably concerned about the erosion of our hard won sex-based rights'. I can't remember who said it, but I'm pretty sure it was a man.

Justilou1 · 23/10/2021 10:36

Thank you so much… I do hope he is extinct.

JeSuisPrest · 23/10/2021 10:45

I feel comfortable wearing this one to the supermarket. "Speak your mind even if your voice shakes".

Yes, I almost bought a bag with that on specifically for work, but I chickened out. And now I'm in the office do rarely, there would be no one to see it anyway.

Justilou1 · 23/10/2021 11:53

@endofagain - I’m in Australia. Our PM is a happy-clappy, Hillsong weirdo, whose wife was doing Q-Anon hand gestures in official photos in the build up to the last Trump election (WHY??? We are so far away!!! Oh, and “THOSE” Americans don’t even believe Australia really exists.) until repeatedly called out by the media. He shut down Parliament during our Covid lockdowns and used every opportunity to sneak in little legislative changes to fuck women over, like allowing childcare centres to discriminate against single parents, for religious reasons, etc… He also increased our already ludicrously expensive postage prices (most expensive and unreliable in the world.) and reduced service to twice per week. When you consider the distances some people here live from cities and towns, or elderly, disabled, etc… unethical and illegal. (Forcing privatisation everywhere.)
Most topically and importantly at the moment, he has also repeatedly denied knowledge of knowledge of and covering for SA in PARLIAMENT HOUSE by one of his staff members (and fellow Hillsong member). Several other women also claimed same. Then our PM quashed an investigation into a historic claim against our Attorney General (highest position of law - above every judge on Australia.) that had been made by a woman who had tried to press charges of historical rape against him, but found the process so utterly demoralizing, she committed suicide. The PM’s reasoning was that “He was a “Good Bloke.” The Attorney General was on “Stress Leave”, on full pay of course for about 18 months, and then “resigned” after receiving an anonymous donation of a million dollars. This week our PM has quashed an investigation into this donation. I think we have enough problems with sexist bastard politicians here.
Waiting for a lightening bolt

I like 'my favourite season is the fall of the patriarchy'

Can't do a link but there's loads of tshirts available if you put it into Google.

KeyboardWorriers · 23/10/2021 12:10

@TreXX I would love a " Be Furious " t shirt/hoody!!

Justilou1 · 23/10/2021 12:15

So funny… My DH is quite squirmy when I have these conversations with my DD’s. I point out that we are not discussing HIM. Surely he must hate that his 15 and 17 year old girls hate that men have been staring at their boobs and icking them out since they were 11…?

Justilou1 · 23/10/2021 12:16

*He’s not dumb enough to actually say something though

TreXX · 23/10/2021 12:23
**@TreXX* I would love* a " Be Furious " t shirt/hoody!!
I'm certainly no artist so maybe I should ask someone who knows what they're doing to turn my very quick sketch in to a proper design!!

Definitely @TreXX I was imagining it just like that with flowers as well Grin

CompleteGinasaur · 23/10/2021 12:40

One of my favourites is "If you're not angry, you're not paying attention", but unfortunately shielding/lockdown means Tesco hasn't been treated to it very frequently..

Never mind, it's the heretical thought that counts.
