Feminist T-shirts you can usefully wear in Tesco

(Other grocery suppliers are available)

I’ve not generally been a slogan t-shirt wearer, but it turns out post Covid my off-duty style is evolving to be a lot more relaxed than it used to be! So I’ll now happily be in whatever comfywear whilst doing the shopping etc. I was thinking about the daily acts of feminism and planting seeds of ideas thing and thinking that wearing T-shirts with a thought-provoking feminist message on is a useful thing to do whilst shopping; if people see the message and they find it intriguing they may go away and find out more. Nothing offensive (not counting claimed offence at gender critical belief itself).

The feminist tshirts that I have aren’t really suitable - they are either just celebratory slogans (like courage calls to courage, I incite this meeting etc) or you have to be already in the know to get the relevance, like BirdyRose designs (my favourite Magdalen one is too sweary for polite company as well).

Has anyone got any feminist slogan apparel that would fit these criteria? Thought provoking for observers, not sweary, makes the point clearly?

Hope this all makes sense

@Motorina

Just a heads up - the Birdy Rose ones are lovely, but the female fit come up TINY.
Oh no, will they not go over Her Ladyship's bosoms? I will have to size up then!
UnfinishedBunting · 19/10/2021 22:31

I wore my woman: adult human female t-shirt to the supermarket once, and felt pretty jittery the whole way round TBH.

Trisolaris · 19/10/2021 22:38

I enjoy my handmaids tale top that says: Nolite te bastardes carborundorum

Trisolaris · 19/10/2021 22:42

I also have a necklace with ‘well-behaved women seldom make history’ which I get asked about a lot. That’s also a great t shirt.

I'm trying to think if I have a Disrespectful Woman bag or tshirt somewhere - I'd still like a Disreputable Women that lists my offences that would have a remarkable overlap with the rights we dinos are hoarding.

@LurkyMcLurcker

I have a few - have always loved slogan t-shirts

My current favourite reads "delicate, like the male ego"

I also have "seize the day with the unearned confidence of a mediocre white man" which I love but is too wordy really

😂😂😂 Oh I love that one!
Lowhum · 19/10/2021 23:00

What about ‘no thank you’. Or maybe the classic Mumsnet scarf?

Definitely size up for Birdy’s shirts and vests. I’m 10/ 12 and went for ex large as the fit on large was just too neat for me. The turnaround for return was very quick and her stickers are absolutely beautifully done, as are the t shirts.
Rhannion · 20/10/2021 01:12

The Leeds Spinners have lovely one that says “ Right Side of History my arse”but probably best worn at demos and not the school run.

Downunderduchess · 20/10/2021 01:16

You might like to check out Charmoffensive tees. It’s Australian, she does great feminist slogans.

Luckingfovely · 20/10/2021 01:44

Not exactly what you asked for - I'm looking for something that I know will fit the bill - but there are some great fabrics here. I do like 'Feeling Stabby' Grin

Btw complete tangent on the dinosaur thing but this was fucking hilarious, (highlighted on Twitter by our very own *@RhymesWithOrange ) apparently us stoopid t*fs are using “trans dinosaurs” (ha!) as our secret signal, because the person that requested dinosaur emojis had Thoughts when they did so 😂
If it's not actually in the documentation, does that even count?
Beowulfa · 20/10/2021 07:16

I have a Thought Criminal one.

Recently bought a "Totes For Women" bag from the feminist bookshop in Haworth: www.waveofnostalgia.co.uk/

Thanks Lammysaurus, I’ve just discovered I can copy this! 🦖

One of my fave feminist T-shirts is the simple and elegant “Women’s rights are human rights”.

I adore this quote, and the colour is lovely too!

Some great ideas here I’ll check out. Just to be clear the idea I’m going for isn’t just something that basically says “I’m a feminist” in a cool or creative way, or just nods to those of us already in the know.….not that those things aren’t great…. but something that is thought provoking or (perhaps patronisingly) ‘educational’ for the observer who doesn’t already know about women’s liberation issues.

Half wondering about just getting some printed with shocking facts on like stats from the femicide census, more CEOs called Peter than females, rapists held in women’s prisons on self id, etc.

@Bordois what’s the meaning of ’literal violets’. I’ve googled but can’t work it out. its a lovely T-shirt. Thanks

That's a really good idea. I would print that on the back on the shirt too so people can actually read it without feeling awkward that you're looking at them.

One stat that many people don't know is how high the percentage level of male sexual offenders are. Look it up on .Gov website, but the percentage of sexual offenders based on police records that are male (no matter how they identify), is usually over 98%. In 2011 it was 98.6 but I think more stats came out around 2017 which shows they're about the same or higher.

I think it's a pun on "literal violence".

It's taking the piss out of the phrase "literal violence". And a good excuse for a purple/white/green colour scheme, though she doesn't seem to have gone there.

...cross post. I'm a slow typer with a broken phone screen.

Itsbeen84yearss · 20/10/2021 09:57

I have one with ‘woman up’ on it. Not sure it counts as feminist but I like it
