I thought this may be of interest:

www.mpts-uk.org/hearings-and-decisions/medical-practitioners-tribunals/dr-adrian-harrop-nov-21

The tribunal will inquire into the allegation that from 10 May 2018 to 23 November 2019, Dr Harrop inappropriately used his Twitter account to post tweets that were offensive and/or insulting and/or inappropriate in nature and some of which were intended to intimidate.

@StellaAndCrow

He's going to have to be very careful not to let them see him angry. I honestly don't know anyone that can listen to him and not see him as an angry misogynist.
"A dictionary definition on a billboard makes men feel unsafe".

This quote encapsulates so much. I love Posie!

RedDogsBeg · 15/11/2021 14:07

@beastlyslumber

I hope he's struck off. It's the only tolerable outcome, surely.
and charged criminally, some of those tweets cannot be interpreted as anything other than blackmail, add to that the menacing nature of them, then there's the intimidation and bullying and this was a persistent and long running campaign against the individuals, not a one off.

I'd like to hear the Police's justification for NOT charging him.

beastlyslumber · 15/11/2021 14:08

I'd like to hear the Police's justification for NOT charging him.

Probably just too busy harrassing women for knowing biological sex is real.

Trouble is, those in authority are so utterly terrified of having their name besmirched with accusations of transphobia, bigotry or being "on the wrong side of history"...

My money's on a "now now" and a finger wag.

That's a good question, let's ask them. They are bound to be neutral and impartial on such matters...

My favourite is:

I am appropriating the word woman, can you hear yourself?

EishetChayil · 15/11/2021 14:22

Seeing those coppers all dickied up in their Pride gear exposes just how deeply Stonewall has penetrated public bodies. It's chilling.

JustcameoutGC · 15/11/2021 14:23

I reallly hope Posie is there. Right up the front. He would be guaranteed to lose his shit.

MissLucyEyelesbarrow · 15/11/2021 14:29

It’s always really difficult to predict the outcome of MPTS cases that don’t involve direct harm to patients. Yes, doctors are not supposed to bring the profession into disrepute, but this is inconsistently interpreted.

I would be (pleasantly) surprised to see him suspended from the GMC register, given that none of the alleged offences involved his patients. Hope I’m wrong, though.

Artichokeleaves · 15/11/2021 14:30

It would have been arguable that he crossed the line with the intimidation and 'delete all your tweets and profile or I'll continue doxxing you' thing - particularly since CPS have gladly pulled women into police stations and court rooms for far less than that.

But to do it all in your own name, with your job clearly identified? Work places have codes of conduct. Professions in particular have a code of conduct, I haven't yet met one that is not clear about expected behaviour including online, not bringing the profession into disrepute, and this is way, way past the point that most people could have expected to have been sacked. One incident alone would have ended it for many.

Artichokeleaves · 15/11/2021 14:31

Sorry: I meant even if he'd done it all anonymously on Twitter it would have been arguable that he'd crossed the line.

But he gave his full name, his profession, and let it all hang out.

RedDogsBeg · 15/11/2021 14:36

Okay he's admitted some tweets were inappropriate (but denies they were offensive):

Paragraph (3) A to D admitted.
Paragraph (5) A to D admitted
Paragraph (6) admitted
Paragraph (7) denied
Paragraph (8) A - admitted B - denied
Paragraph (13) A - admitted B - denied
Paragraph (14) A - D admitted F - denied
Paragraph (15) A - admitted B & C denied

3, 4, 5 & 6 are admitted.

Harrop says the Hearing will have to decide if the tweets were offensive, he doesn't think so, but admits they were inappropriate.

MissLucyEyelesbarrow · 15/11/2021 14:37

The standards for dismissal from an individual employer are different from being prevented from practising your profession (by erasure from the register) at all, though.

Don’t get me wrong - I think he’s an aggressive misogynist who deserves the book thrown at him, assuming that the allegations are substantiated. I’m just doubtful that it will happen. The Law’s tendency to minimise and forgive misogyny doesn’t inspire me with optimism.

Datun · 15/11/2021 14:42

They weren't just offensive, they were petrifying. I felt worried on behalf of the women he was sending them to, ffs.

And it spilled over onto mumsnet, if I recall.

Artichokeleaves · 15/11/2021 14:44

Yes they were inappropriate, but no they weren't offensive or with intent to intimidate or harass?

Mmn.

How does it go? 'If I did do it, it wasn't that bad'

(And if it was that bad then it wasn't my fault
and if it was my fault then I didn't mean it
and if I did mean it,
you/they deserved it.)

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 15/11/2021 14:48

suppose he could do a Webberley and say he was acting for the greater good.

Called it^ (or at least he did previously)

"Harrop, as this point said the complainant was “transphobic” and he was “using his public platform for good.” Dr Harrop was reminded of guidance and warned further complaints would leave to a referral to GMC."

'At a further meeting, Harrop said that he was “defending an important position.” Harrop had two written warnings. Further complaints received led to a referral in 2019 to GMC. Referrals were also made by a “number of other individuals.”

Datun · 15/11/2021 14:49

According to the tweets, when he was pulled up on it originally his defence was the 'claimant was transphobic'. And he was 'defending an important position'.

She deserved it. That's the defence.

Helleofabore · 15/11/2021 14:52

Will this mean then that we should be able to get a definitive answer to what 'transphobic' means?

I think that popcorn might be in order for me today after all!

Artichokeleaves · 15/11/2021 14:53

So he's shown and told the GMC that however they try to explain to him or warn him, he feels he is acting righteously and will do it anyway.

He's painted himself somewhat into a corner there.

BoreOfWhabylon · 15/11/2021 14:53

He just would not be told. His overweaning arrogance has been his undoing.

Awkwardy · 15/11/2021 14:58

Whether the eventual sanctions are great or small, this stuff is out there forever.

I foresee a great career as a smouldering martyr.

RedDogsBeg · 15/11/2021 14:58

In 2018, Dr Harrop was on his Post Grad (Health Education England) the GMC received a number of complaints. The GMC asked his professor to discuss with him and remind him of his duties.

Harrop, as this point said the complainant was “transphobic” and he was “using his public platform for good.” Dr Harrop was reminded of guidance and warned further complaints would leave to a referral to GMC.

At a further meeting, Harrop said that he was “defending an important position.” Harrop had two written warnings. Further complaints received led to a referral in 2019 to GMC. Referrals were also made by a “number of other individuals.”

Oof, didn't learn then, arrogance personified.

NeedsCharging · 15/11/2021 15:00

Christ watching this play out....he cannot possibly get away with this!
