I thought this may be of interest:

www.mpts-uk.org/hearings-and-decisions/medical-practitioners-tribunals/dr-adrian-harrop-nov-21

The tribunal will inquire into the allegation that from 10 May 2018 to 23 November 2019, Dr Harrop inappropriately used his Twitter account to post tweets that were offensive and/or insulting and/or inappropriate in nature and some of which were intended to intimidate.

I don't think at this stage (which is pretty serious) Harrop is going to be allowed to say 'sorry, guv, honest mistake. Bit of banter. Will mend my ways'.

This tribunal isn't the first port of call in a misconduct matter. There are stages to be followed (or they should be followed), as there are in most large organisations, before a case gets anywhere near a tribunal. I can only assume Harrop has been given ample opportunity in the past to change his ways. He clearly hasn't.

The NHS doesn't like to lose doctors. The GMC won't be taking this step lightly.

This.

Also though, whilst I agree that the NHS needs all the doctors it can get, am I being too rosy tinted in thinking that neither of those institutions would want to be seen to be supporting an individual so self evidently narcissistic, deluded and lacking in any emotional continence to continue as their representative in what is, after all, the most responsible of pastoral roles?

ItsLittoralViolins · 15/11/2021 12:41

I use Twitter professionally, as do a lot of people in my field. I came across Dr A H by accident some time ago, around the time of Clownfishgate, and didn't actually believe he could be a medical doctor until I read about him further on here. I think a lot of women felt the same - He's a GP??!

The list of charges is astonishing. I'm not pre-judging, but given the clear and obvious evidence base for the charges, I will be suprised if there are no serious sanctions in this case. This man has brought his profession into disrepute. I'd be thrown out of my professional bodies for far less.

FlaviaAlbiaWantsLangClegBack · 15/11/2021 12:50

Wow, I hadn't read the charge sheet until today. Astonishing seeing it all laid out like that, I would have thought it would be impossible to defend...

ahagwearsapointybonnet · 15/11/2021 12:54

And that's not even all his dodgy tweets. Would love to know whether the one about the "anti-terf" spray (I forget the exact wording) will be covered, for example?

BrownMilk · 15/11/2021 13:02

Placemarking

RedDogsBeg · 15/11/2021 13:02

He should be facing criminal charges.

Terfasaurus · 15/11/2021 13:02

The “anti TERF” spray was a post on Instagram earlier this year.

So even after Harrop had been informed by the GMC that he was facing a tribunal, he continued to post inappropriate material on other platforms signifying a colossal lack of judgement.

www.express.co.uk/news/uk/1438754/nhs-news-transgender-terf-feminist-doctor-woke-political-correctness-lgbtq/amp

It doesn’t look as though that will be included, though the panel ought to take it into consideration.

Harrop seems pathologically incapable of self-control or restraint.

StellaAndCrow · 15/11/2021 13:05

He's going to have to be very careful not to let them see him angry.

I honestly don't know anyone that can listen to him and not see him as an angry misogynist.
Sexnotgender · 15/11/2021 13:07

That charge sheet is awful. And basically for having different views to him.

StellaAndCrow · 15/11/2021 13:07

And the GMC consider if a doctor is "bringing the profession into disrepute"

Dr H truly made me reconsider going to a male doctor in case they were a misogynist like him. He has caused me to lose some faith in the medical profession.

Mollyollydolly · 15/11/2021 13:10

It's interesting he's not been charged by the Police when you see the charges listed in black and white like that isn't it?
Why not?
So many individuals had a knock on the door for much less.
It's certainly a lesson in what social media can do to a person. Watching the escalation on twitter was an education.

nauticant · 15/11/2021 13:12

Do the proceedings include the tweet in which Harrop said that the activities of a gender critical woman needed to be stopped "by whatever means necessary"?

StellaAndCrow · 15/11/2021 13:12

@LizzieSiddal

His treatment of several women seems to have been targeted and threatening. I know several people made complaints to the GMC and iirc he was then given a Supervisor. That obviously didn’t work out did it.

I do remember thinking I’d be petrified if I ever went into a medical setting and saw him there.

Yes, I thought this as well. I'd have to just walk out.
Sexnotgender · 15/11/2021 13:13

@nauticant

I don’t believe they do as it’s outwith the timeframe.
BoreOfWhabylon · 15/11/2021 13:15

I do think his only possible defence would be some sort of escalating mental health issue.

StellaAndCrow · 15/11/2021 13:15

Yes, it does include that one, and notes intention to intimidate You can see the allegation sheets on this thread: twitter.com/tribunaltweets/status/1460180124008169477
Rightsraptor · 15/11/2021 13:19

It's been an extraordinary thing to watch over these last couple of years. His lack of impulse control has been alarming.

But at least he felt able 'to bring his whole self to work' eh?

I complained to the GMC about the 'T**f exterminator' tweets and they told me they were aware this doctor. I've never met AH but, like StellaAndCrow, his behaviour has caused me concern about dealings with male doctors. Not good.

CompleteGinasaur · 15/11/2021 13:22

I think one of the (many) things he is going to have serious difficulty explaining away is not just the actual meat of the charges but the sheer and sustained vindictiveness, the gleeful malevolence displayed as he escalates through his petulant narcissistic rampage..

Redshoeblueshoe · 15/11/2021 13:23

I've got Mrmenno singing The Adrian Harrop song in my head Grin

ItsLittoralViolins · 15/11/2021 13:30

I would sincerely hope that after the Tribunal is concluded, and the witnesses have given their evidence and AH his defence and mitigation, that the Police take another hard look at this and the intimidation element(s).

The Tribunal proceedings, laying out all the evidence and the effects of AH's actions on the witnesses, might focus minds, at the IOPC if not Merseyside Police.

Datun · 15/11/2021 13:45

@StellaAndCrow

Same here. It has absolutely made me view male doctors through a completely different lens.

I hope that this tribunal sends the message to other women hating men that they cannot get away with this kind of intimidation

Motorina · 15/11/2021 13:46

If anyone knows who the committee chair is then I would be interested, please.

FannyCann · 15/11/2021 13:55

Looks like they have quite sensibly restricted the charges to particularly egregious tweets involving targeted harassment (possibly at a criminal level) of certain individuals who are able to be witnesses. The multitude of other offensive tweets could be argued to be just twitter bantz and finding them offensive just a subjective judgement. Much better to stick with hard evidence of harassment and intimidation.

Though I think in one of the instances the place of work mentioned was also a place of worship and at the time I felt concern for the safety and well-being of individuals in the congregation, not to mention the lack of respect that could amount to religious discrimination. I hope that is pointed out.

beastlyslumber · 15/11/2021 13:57

I hope he's struck off. It's the only tolerable outcome, surely.
