New excuses just dropped. The trans activists have said that we should not share that picture of that sign, with the sexually violent threat, because the person sitting next to it may be under 18, and not understand the gravity of what they're being pictured endorsing.

Right. Fine. Except, if a possible 17 year old is not old enough to understand that commanding (that sign is in the imperative) women to perform sex acts on you is problematic, or that calling women misogynistic obscenities is also... problematic, then why, why, why

am I supposed to trust that teenagers younger than that know what they're doing when they want to be prescribed medication like GnRH agonists?

Maskless · 17/10/2021 23:19
@Maskless, do you have the Twitter link? Her arts quite ... shit. I'd love to admire more of it.
Dr Catherine McNamara is the art lecturer. Head of Art, actually!

Her Twitter is twitter.com/catherine_mc

However, in the last hour or so she's protected all her Tweets because of all the feminists calling her out, I'd imagine.

Looks like the councillor is Claire Udy, the subject of this thread

SpindelWhorl · 17/10/2021 23:28

Which one's Udy? What colour hair?

SpindelWhorl · 17/10/2021 23:33

@Maskless, I see her bio says GenderedIntelligence, the group that trained Stonewall back in ?2015, I think.

But it wasn't much of a protest really, was it? Looks like some kids, a dog, an art lecturer, a few blokes, and some confused shoppers with carrier bags wandering past.

Is it, like, protest as performance?

They really want to have it both ways, don’t they?

The individuals in that picture shared it themselves on Instagram, so Confused

@LobsterNapkin

Amnesty lost the plot when they stopped concentrating on prisoners of conscience and instead started to try and impose western ideas about everything else on other nations and cultures. Which is ironic for a group supposedly invested in freedom of thought and expression.

It's a neat little vignette of what has gone wrong more generally.

This is a good resource for everything wrong with Amnesty ( I say this as an ex member/supporter throughout the 80s/90s/00s) www.ngo-monitor.org/ngos/amnesty_international/

Hello, pink dino!

I've seen some more photos on Twitter. I don't think those revolting signs and chalk drawings about abusive sex acts are going to be forgotten about any time soon as there's so much online now. That small gathering of people have made real fools of themselves imho.

That an art lecturer and a city councillor were involved in this (they're clearly in the photos online) with children around is ridiculous and worrying - and obviously a safeguarding concern.

U18s are still subject to the laws of the land - including the laws about sexual violence against women. Has anybody reported this to the police I wonder? Or are the police in Portsmouth Stonewall champions in which case there's little point in women turning to them?

Just been down the rabbit hole of her cv. She's referred to speech by Nick Gibb to Stonewall in 2011 as testimonial evidence of her work.
He's talking about bullying and says
When it comes to homophobic bullying, for example, the Government is not the expert. Stonewall is, and so are other LGBT organisations working directly with school staff and young people every day.

Our role in Government is to help schools to find and use these expert organisations - not just Stonewall, but also groups like Schools Out, EACH and Gendered Intelligence.

The role of schools is to concentrate on their core business - educating children to become knowledgeable, responsible adults who make a positive contribution to society.

The role of organisations like Stonewall is to help schools, and help us, to create one of the most inclusive education systems in the world.

MrsOvertonsWindow · 18/10/2021 10:18

Nick Gibb was closely involved with Stonewall and it's a good thing that he's been booted out of the Department for Education. He's one of the architects of the mess in schools having facilitated his Stonewall mates via DfE funding and policy documents to peddle their ideology in schools to the detriment of girls.

I think the signs and drawings really alienated any reasonable people they were trying to stop, they just took one look and carried on walking, most refusing to take the leaflets they were handing out. The kids drawing on the floor were about 14-17 they looked very lost it was very sad to see and made many of us feel incredibly sorry for them. It was a pretty poor protest the majority of the public didn't want to engage with them.
supercritter · 18/10/2021 10:33

If there's an issue with the people with the cunt sign being under 18 then surely it was up to the grown ups who organised this to tell them that threats of sexual violence to women are not acceptable.
There was a woman from Eritrea talking alongside Julie about the weaponisation of rape and genocide in Tigray. Many women inside har been abused, pimped etc and the sexualised hostility from the TRAs is appalling.

Most of what was discussed was nothing to do with the trans issue. Reminded me how many other important issues there are for women. The live feed from the lesbians fearing for their lives in a Kenyan refugee camp was so distressing. They struggle to buy food as the shopkeepers say they're evil and won't take their money. The privileged narcissism of these protesters was very apparent

lanadelgrey · 18/10/2021 10:40

Was wondering if a joint letter to Portsmouth Council, the art school/uni and to the local paper from attendees might be in order, along with links to the various placards/scrawls? I didn’t take any pictures myself. Could it be organised through the conference app?

lanadelgrey · 18/10/2021 10:41

And an explanation of what the conference actually covered

A letter to the paper asking if this is how Portsmouth welcomes conference visitors and a dignified outline of how it was to discuss the plight of women in Eritrea and Kenya while all of that nonsense and disruption was permitted outside.
MrsOvertonsWindow · 18/10/2021 10:43

That's an excellent idea lanadelgrey It's high time that councils understood precisely what it is they're endorsing when they fete these people - and just how offensive it is to the majority of the population that a conference about women's rights is abused by their employees and councillors.

Portsmouth City councillor Claire Edy.

Female lecturer.
Female councillor.
Females amongst the WHM.

Wtf?

And Reclaim These Streets, who were set upin the wake of an awful murder of a woman. But they endorse "suck my dick". Incredible.
