what does it mean "live as a woman"?

I gather that in order for a male person who believes themselves to be feminine they have to "live as their acquired gender" for 2 years in order to get a GRC.

Is there a definition of how women live? Because I don't think I qualify.

I knew someone going through this. It meant present as a woman at all times for two years. I also happen to know that the minute they got in from work, they ran upstairs and changed into what would be described as mens clothes, washed off the make up, ditched the wig, and watched football. (Now I know women can and do, do all of that, but they’re not the ones saying they are the opposite sex really, so that’s irrelevant)

Anyway, it was this that made them realise that transitioning wasn’t for them. They detransitioned, chucked everything in the bin, and haven’t cross dressed since (yes cross dressed, because that’s what it was) they are also one of the most vocal opponents of self ID, and medicating kids I’ve ever met.

This was 20 plus years ago, in the days before the world lost their minds, so thank fuck they never got as far as hormones or surgery.

As far as the GRA is concerned it seems to be about your “new” name on a few household bills.

Does anybody know, how long women have been able to have bills/utilities/bank accounts in their own names?

Could y’all have a rake in your dinosaur lairs and see if you’re accidentally hanging on to it?

LoislovesStewie · 01/10/2021 13:48

Sigmund Freud spent much of his life mulling over 'what women want'. He never found out because we are all different much like this, no-one knows how to live like a woman. We just do.

HipTightOnions · 01/10/2021 13:48

As far as I can see, “living as a woman” = “pretending to be a woman”.

OchonAgusOchonOh · 01/10/2021 13:51

@Nowayhozay

Clearly it means to live and work 24/7 whilst presenting as female
Given that female refers to sex rather than gender, that would require surgery to present as female, assuming presenting means external presentation.
CharlieParley · 01/10/2021 13:52

Yes, please, I'd like an answer to that, too.

I do not believe that there is a definition set out in the GRA. However, here in Scotland in the context of the Gender Equality on Public Boards Act(Scotland), the following definition is given for those considered to be women for the purpose of the Act( no GRC required, only self id)

3. be living as a woman

This would not require the person to dress, look or behave in any particular way. However, it would be expected that there would be evidence that the person was continuously living as a woman, such as – always using female pronouns; using a female name on official documents such as a driving licence or passport, or on utility bills or bank accounts; using female titles; updating the gender marker to female on official documents such as a driving licence or passport; describing themselves and being described by others in written or other communication as a woman.

It's this. All you actually have to do is change your name on your utility bills. The GRC board doesn't meet you in person, you post off some bills stating you're Brenda now not Bernard. It costs £5 to obtain a GRC. If you need a doctor's letter, Vickie Pasterski is on the approved government list.
FlyingOink · 01/10/2021 13:57

We could all get one, you're supposed to swear to live "as the opposite sex" for the rest of your life, but I guess they couldn't really stop you changing back if you wanted to:

Sorry the Act is the " Gender Representation on Public Boards Act ( Scotland 2018)

Dress from dorothy perkins or m and s.
Shaved legs and tan stockings.
Heels.
Nail varnish
Foundation, powder, mascara, rouge, lipstick.
Eyebrows done.
Long blowdryed hair.

One of the problems is, this isn't what a woman is.

TheOrigRights · 01/10/2021 14:00

All you actually have to do is change your name on your utility bills.

If you have online accounts for your utilities you can change your name really quickly (I reverted to my maiden name post divorce).

334bu · 01/10/2021 14:02

Why would you need to get one when organisations and even governments are accepting your self identification as a woman, on the basis of a utility bill.It should also be pointed out that in the above Act it is stated that Public Boards have also no right to query the persons identity or even ask for evidence, they must accept their identity as stated, no matter how they present.

Maskedstranger · 01/10/2021 14:03

Being oppressed for generations? Being harassed and underpaid? Doing 99.9% of the childcare, housework and carrying the domestic load? Going round in a permanent state of fury / because of previous 3 things?

FlyingOink · 01/10/2021 14:04

In fact I'm not sure they could stop anyone from legally changing sex every two years. If they did they'd lay themselves open to litigation.

Jaysmith71 · 01/10/2021 14:06

Wrestling Legend "Big Daddy" was officially Shirley Crabtree. Would that do it, or does the one negate the other?

Falderal · 01/10/2021 14:07

"My body makes me a women. Everything else is just set-dressing."

thanks for this - perfect response

Kosmoceratops · 01/10/2021 14:10

It means listening, obeying and keeping your mouth shut while men tell you how you should behave,

CrumpetShaw · 01/10/2021 14:13

Clothes, hair, and name. Thats it.

Oblomov21 · 01/10/2021 14:13

Every time I ask this on these threads there isn't an answer.

You are trans? You are a man but you want to be a women? Why? What does that mean? What do you mean you want to be a woman? explain to me what do you think being a woman is. what does it mean to you? what does that entail please ? could you give me a straight answer.

no one ever does.

Artichokeleaves · 01/10/2021 14:15

@vivariumvivariumsvivaria

Yes, this is what I think. It's about lipstick and heels, isn't it? Long hair that you swish around and submissiveness?

It's so FUCKING OFFENSIVE!

I'm the middle of a conversation about gender at work - I actually think I might explode. They are describing stereotypes that women have been railing against for for quite a long time.

Also, I don't seem to meet any of the criteria they mention. So, am I accidentally a transman? I've got short hair, quite a decent tache (thanks, menopause), I'm wearing jeans and a sweatshirt, trainers and no make up. I have yet to giggle coquettishly or have a pillow fight - uh oh.

That. Exactly.

Live as a woman.... which woman ffs?

I can put on a tweed skirt and low heels and a head scarf and live as the queen being on holiday in Scotland, I can swan around in a long dress praying a lot with occasional forays into armour and be Joan of Arc, I can whack on mountaineering gear and go and climb K2 and live as Alison Hargreaves.....

it's basically going to involve LARP since none of them have a single thing in common other than their biology.

FGS. Biology is a fact. A fixed fact. We've spent bloody decades telling children there are no such thing as boys clothes and girls clothes, girls jobs, boys jobs, girls hobbies, boys' hobbies - just fuck off with this sexist, limiting bullshit!

MonsignorMirth · 01/10/2021 14:17

You are a man but you want to be a women?

No, many say they were born male but they are a woman.

In what way? - is never answered.

AlfonsoTheDinosaur · 01/10/2021 14:19

When you witches find out, let me know!

AlfonsoTheDinosaur · 01/10/2021 14:19

Erm. That was meant affectionately.
