@herecomesthsun

Where do the Greens stand on this?
The Greens in Scotland are stonewalled to the hilt. Harvie the leader is a misogynist, his side kick Slater is ridiculous, she and Layla Moran were separated at birth. The party had an issue with rape victims being able to choose the sex of medical examiner treating them, that’s why the CEO of Edinburgh Rape Crisis Centre jumped from the SNP to the greens as HE didn’t want women to have that choice.

@herecomesthsun

Pull???

Goodness me, it's hard to think of the Tories as the feminist party of choice.

Well, it doesn’t have to be the Tories. There is no election now or in the immediate future. Labour and the Lib Dems have clear evidence of what the public thinks of their stance on this issue. They have time. If they fail to react and continue to bury their heads in the sand then they only have themselves to blame if women don’t vote for them because of this issue.

Of course it won’t happen because Starmer is a gutless coward.

For those wanting to catch up/listen again

Still waiting for it to be on Sounds so that I can listen but so pleased that Emma B has been ungagged at last. She's been unfairly vilified in the past by some on here I think, clearly been constrained until now by editorial policy.

So what has caused the policy shift? Has there been a change of personnel within the cohort of decision makers or is it just that the penny has finally dropped?

Lovely Justin Webb interviewed Rosie Duffield just before 8 am on Today Programme too. He's always understood the arguments and has not been afraid to articulate them.

This is all reminding me of the last days of Kids Company.

BoreOfWhabylon · 20/09/2021 12:29

On Sounds now

beastlyslumber · 20/09/2021 12:30

TWAW is so obviously not true on its face. It must be more clear than ever that this is a mantra, a slogan designed to stop debate, rather than a meaningful statement. When people hear the well-reasoned arguments from women, and this slogan on the other side, only the brainwashed cultists are not going to question it, surely?

Anyway, I'm happy to hear EB has found her feet on this. I'd given up on WH.

@herecomesthsun

Arabella's referencing this 2018 account of the struggle so far.

(She's been at this so long, she forgets that there are all these new recruits around who don't know all the memes from the Ancient Texts).

futureghost · 20/09/2021 12:31

While absolutely in favour of single sex spaces, rights, protections and opportunities until such a time as female-bodied people have the same level of social, political and economic power as male, I am not convinced by the idea that men will adopt jobs or positions solely in order to seek out girls/women/children to abuse them. Sadly, I think it's more likely that these are crimes of opportunity and many more males (no, not all males) would abuse given the opportunity

So is your position that Jimmy Saville really was a philanthropist with an interest in healthcare? And it was just lucky that this also gave him access to patients?

I am sure that there are many men who take opportunities if they arise. But I don't really have any doubt that there are also men who deliberately organise their lives to provide those opportunties.

ScreamingMeMe · 20/09/2021 12:32

@Theeyeballsinthesky

Twitter is having a full on beeee lkiiinddd I stand with my trans sisters moment

Somewhat depressing to see the Chief Executive of Hospice UK believes TWAW

"Labour MP" is also trending.

Full of the be kind crew calling RD a bigot but failing to quote anything she's said that is transphobic and saying no debate - sounds familiar. And GC people saying it’s about women's rights not trans people.

R0wantrees · 20/09/2021 12:35

Does this mean that female patients in receipt of palliative hospice care will not be able to request intimate care by same sex HCPs?

Or single-sex wards in an actual hospice?
thirdfiddle · 20/09/2021 12:39

Right, now get a women's rights advocate on. Interview them challengingly as well by all means. Sit back and observe the difference in level of debate.

TidyDancer · 20/09/2021 12:40

Has anyone replied to the chief exec of Hospice UK asking how that would be applied in their professional capacity? Curious to see any clarity on that.

Thanks for the links to WH, will give it a listen later!

Politics Live is debating it now on BBC2

OperationDessertStorm · 20/09/2021 12:43

I’m irked. They had been pushing this so hard (and even the ridiculous stuff) so unquestionably but suddenly they’ve noticed the wind has changed and they’re backpedaling. Why the hell didn’t they try a more balanced approach from 2 years ago with JKs comments.

It’s almost like the string pullers at the top of government have been winding everyone up one way on purpose and have now dropped the spool to go the other way to catch people out.

LoislovesStewie · 20/09/2021 12:43

@SageHoney

Christine Jadine was previously best known for arguing very doggedly that women are in no need of single-sex facilities because men use the loo at your house. She was very impressive in the way she simply would not listen to any kind of reason or logic or facts, but simply insisted on herself.

(Perhaps "impressive" isn't the right word, but you get the idea ... )

Yeah and look at the state of the loo after some males have used it! Apart from other considerations of course.
futureghost · 20/09/2021 12:45

so unquestionably but suddenly they’ve noticed the wind has changed and they’re backpedaling

How are they backpedalling? And who?

Oblahdeeoblahdoe · 20/09/2021 12:45

I listened to the programme whilst driving. Goodness knows what I looked like shouting at the radio. I've just checked out the BBC Sounds app and there is no mention of this interview in their blurb but the interview is on there.

Jaysmith71 · 20/09/2021 12:47

....And now Daisy Cooper on Daily Politics BBC2 saying she don't know nuffing about nuffing about t-shirts, and trans-rights are human rights, etc.

VladmirsPoutine · 20/09/2021 12:48

Where do the tories stand on this. I'll eat my hat if they think TWAW.

Jaysmith71 · 20/09/2021 12:51

....Cooper sounds like she's signed up for full membership.

Very disappointing.

Some of them do, some of them don't. At the moment, they're just sitting back and enjoying the chaos.

@VladmirsPoutine

Trying to have it both ways - previously TWAW, currently taking self-id off the table and for now likely to stay that way so long as there are votes in it.

That said currently they are the only major party not actively pursuing absolute self-id so I'm a homeless voter atm.
