I just read Marion is having to put her home on the market.

I’m fucking incandescent with rage at this bullshit.

How do we help?

She wasn't given the charges until 10 minutes before appearing in court. Details were not given out as this is a live court case

Harry Miller wrote that PC Gul told him to 'check his thinking'. I suspect that HM might not have sufficiently believed in fantastical boll*cks. Which is really a credit to him when you hear about the progressive thinking PC Gul said he had 'learned'. This was something along the lines of a male embryo/foetus can inexplicably manufacture a lady embryo/foetus brain while developing in the womb. As distinct from their body, which otherwise remains male.

I don't know if HM learned from PC Gul whether a male foetus can manufacture lady nails or lady knuckles/elbows in their otherwise male body as well. Or lady eyeballs. There doesn't seem to be any scientific evidence or test for this amazing new discovery. Unfortunately. It is definitely a scientific fact, though. According to no-one credible.

Cailleach1 · 14/09/2021 22:55

Sorry, wrong Miller.

ArabellaScott · 14/09/2021 22:56

A wee reminder that this is a pending court case and the rules on discussing those are strict. Best not to speculate on what Marion was accused of.

Fitt · 14/09/2021 22:56

I don't think people want to talk about the case Connie as it's going to court.

Suffice to say that "homophobic" and"transphobic" are now smears that can be used against you indiscriminately no matter what you have done or said.

They have really had to scrape the barrel to try to get a charge on the day. The police are trying to save face here.

Conniethesensible · 14/09/2021 23:02

I see. That’s fair.

timeisnotaline · 14/09/2021 23:11

So when people have also ticked to donate the fees is that a donation legally? Can givewc divert those to their charity of choice?

JamMakingWannaBe · 14/09/2021 23:35

The new site is undergoing "maintenance". Can someone reassure me please...

yourhairiswinterfire · 14/09/2021 23:47

For Women Scotland on Twitter;

There has been a misunderstanding. Give have no power to shut a fundraiser down on that site or to stop donations.

Please ignore their virtue signalling. This got out of hand and we'll have a pause for reflection overnight and let people know tomorrow what the situation is.

[quote BraveBananaBadge]A guy from the crowdfunding site. I can't believe what I'm reading:

Bloody hell. He has a nerve. That is theft, surely.

FrustratinglyIrrational · 15/09/2021 00:58

Is there truly no existing crowdfunding platform that isn't captured?

If so, then could we crowdfund (somehow or other...) to pay for someone to build a new platform? I have no idea what would be involved on the regulation side of things, but if it is becoming impossible to fund the women who need it, then we have to come up with something?

Or am I missing the point?

Over600Ecalypts · 15/09/2021 07:19

@DorotheaDiamond

#Over600Ecalypts as a stripe user do you know if the payments made prior to today will go to Marion or can twat intercept them in any way?
As far as I know, Give can't intercept the funds easily. Stripe is a payment gateway, much like Paypal.
TheFeistyFeminist · 15/09/2021 08:29

I was catching up with this on Twitter last night. Please bear in mind that some nefarious types are likely to try to set up fake crowd funder type accounts to part you from your cash. Stick to the official channels and follow their lead. This case is so heated that we should be extra careful our support is actually going where it is needed.

suggestionsplease1 · 15/09/2021 09:41

Do people actually know the specifics of this case?

It seems that people are jumping on a band wagon thinking they are supporting a GC movement when actually they could be supporting some quite hateful communications?

I'd find it odd if a prosecution was being brought to silence legitimate debate.

I'm surprised so many people seem happy to do this, I really don't think I'd want to put my money behind anything if I wasn't fully in the know about the exact charges and circumstances. But maybe people have this already and are happy with what they know? The case still seems very obscure at the moment. And I know it's live so I'm not prompting for details or anything, just surprised if people are happy to support something they don't know full information about.

Artichokeleaves · 15/09/2021 09:44

Surely when the facts of a case is obscure it is even more important that a woman has access to a fair trial and is not being treated as guilty before it even reaches court. Nor be subjected to threats, harassment or forced to sell her children's home to try and fund the case.

This certainly seems something that a women's forum would obviously be very much interested in. Confused

For transparency and clarity: GiveWP earns money from Stripe, not the donors. We don't store or keep donations, they are not ours. None of the donations that went to Marion are impacted in any way.

So Stripe will get hit with the chargebacks which will be nicely annoying for them. I expect they are in on his silly schemes.

Can somebody explain how this works? Is it the case that when you make a donation, you're agreeing that a small percentage will go for processing fees? And these are the fees they're saying they're going to redirect to another charity?

When he says "None of the donations that went to Marion are impacted in any way" is he technically correct (even as he's very very wrong in what he's doing because those fees wouldn't have been generated if people hadn't donated)?

It's all so messed up.

Artichokeleaves · 15/09/2021 09:47

As for 'hateful communications'...... I significantly doubt the case will be able to demonstrate any communications from Marion Millar that anywhere near approaches the appalling hate and threats of violence that she has been deluged with on Twitter. None of the writers of these awful communications appear to yet have been arrested.

Which is odd.

HowToCookAWolf · 15/09/2021 09:50

(cont'd) I mean, he says they're "earning" the money from Stripe, but ultimately that money has to come from the donations, right?

Jaysmith71 · 15/09/2021 09:58

Do people actually know the specifics of this case?

Nobody, including Marion, knows all the facts, because COPFS won't say. We assume from what we know that all we are left with are some witches with a bedsheet and comments made about the arresting officer.

Even the 'Malicious Communications' has been dropped because for that you have to prove intent, and they're going for some obscure clause of another act that speaks about causing alarm and distress.

Fitt · 15/09/2021 09:58

The specifics of what people have said are irrelevant to those who want to hate and vilify women suggestionsplease1, as we saw so clearly with JK Rowling and Maya Forstater.

90% of what you read online about these three is just nasty lies. Your post stops short of that, just, but it's still full of spiteful inuendo. Unsurprisingly in your case.

Waitwhat23 · 15/09/2021 09:58

I'd find it odd if a prosecution was being brought to silence legitimate debate.

Really? Kirkcaldy Police investigated 'women won't wheesht' stickers stuck on lampposts as a hate crime. Nothing offensive or threatening, simply the phrase 'women won't wheesht'. Given the institutional capture of major organisations in Scotland, being fed incorrect legal advice by Stonewall and other lobby groups, it wouldn't surprise me at all if legitimate discussion is being silenced.

I simply don't trust Police Scotland at all now.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 15/09/2021 10:02

Do people actually know the specifics of this case?

Yes. I do. As do many other women.

It seems that people are jumping on a band wagon thinking they are supporting a GC movement when actually they could be supporting some quite hateful communications?

I am confident that if this even gets to court, Marion will be found not guilty.

I'd find it odd if a prosecution was being brought to silence legitimate debate

It is decidedly odd, but legitimate debate is being silenced in all sorts of ways at the moment.

I'm surprised so many people seem happy to do this, I really don't think I'd want to put my money behind anything if I wasn't fully in the know about the exact charges and circumstances. But maybe people have this already and are happy with what they know?

This is generally the case yes.

The case still seems very obscure at the moment. And I know it's live so I'm not prompting for details or anything, just surprised if people are happy to support something they don't know full information about.

Of course you aren't Hmm. Just accept that many women follow these things closely so are more than aware of what is happening and what they are supporting.

Waitwhat23 · 15/09/2021 10:05

And given that one of the tweets which was made public appears to have consisted of a suffragette ribbon tied to a fence. This has been called a 'hate crime' due to someone who seems to have a pathological fear of ribbons, likening it to a noose which was placed in the vague area of Glasgow where he worked. This was apparently so frightening that he has now declared his intention to leave Scotland.

Jaysmith71 · 15/09/2021 10:10

All charges relating to the ribbon appear to have been dropped. This case is now mainly about what MM posted about the arresting officer, a truly Kafkaesque situation were 'we will nick you for what you say when we nick you...'
